ULPT Need excuse to use sick time at work when I’m not actually sick.

I’m going on vacation at work that is a school. My vacation lined up with the school break but I need three days off before it starts. We not allowed to use are sick time on the day before or after the break without an approved excuse or we do not get paid for that break. I need to get the three days off before my break. What is the best excuse to use my sick time that is not something that would require a doctor’s note.

Tell them you are having a procedure and will have to stay home from work. Pretty simple.

Gallbladder removal for 1-2 weeks, but you gotta stab yourself 3 times with something small

Colonoscopy could probably get you 2 days.

They can't ask for someone's health info...especially someone who doesn't work there.
_Cream_Sugar_@reddit
They can ask for proof that someone was there or is a caregiver.
asyouwish@reddit
With what? Would OP write a letter for themselves in their own letterhead?
_Cream_Sugar_@reddit
Literally, a letter on letterhead that so and so was present for a family member who had surgery and will be the primary caregiver.
It depends on where they work, but as someone who has worked at surgery centers and outpatient clinics, we have been contacted more than once for proof.

That is such bullshit. It is NOT the business of my family member's employer to know the name of my (often specific to the type of surgery) surgical center or doctor (who specializes in whatever I'm having done). That's way too much of my personal health being shared with a team of strangers.....and all because they don't trust their own employees.
OkeyDokey654@reddit
No, but if your family member wants to take sick leave to care for you, their employer does have the right to require proof that you underwent a medical procedure. We may not like it, but it’s the truth.
asyouwish@reddit
Calling it a right is a stretch. That is not codified into law. There just isn't a law to keep them from demanding stuff that is none of their business.
_Cream_Sugar_@reddit
Bullshit, yes. That said, it has happened many times. I am simply saying, they need to know their employer and what they can ask for.

You’re having a colonoscopy and need a day off to prep, a day off for the procedure, and a day off for the recovery
duebxiweowpfbi@reddit
You don’t need an extra day off for recovery though.

Eye surgery for someone in your family, incl a pet? Having your own good sub lined up when you bring it to them is BIG. And if your class(es) aren't awful and the sub wants work, we are usually desperate to have something reliable lined up.
kungfungus@reddit
If woman, some type of vaginal issue. Or even better, abortion before the vacation coz you wanna have time to recover. Or bursted bleeding hemorrhoids. The more awkward the better, to no follow-up questions or ask for proof.

Pet having surgery? My work would hassle me if it was my mom (doesn't she have anyone else to look after her?), but not for a pet because I'm the only caregiver. But they wouldn't approve sick time for it, it would be vacation or paid time off.
Or, just call in sick for the 3 days, saying you have covid.
I_Sure_Yam@reddit
Positive covid test?
Twilfred97@reddit (OP)
Ideally looking for something I can get approved off in advance. I was suggested to say my mom is having a surgery and I need to be home to take care of her.
