Am I The Only 1985'r Who Feels Like Our Age Group Gets No Love?

Everyone with any influence was either born in like 1980 (AVGN) or way after 1985. Us 1985'rs remember the NES era, too. Though most of the time, we watched in awe as our older brothers and their friends played together. We hoped, maybe if we were cool enough, that they would let us join in with them. And once in a while they did, and it was glorious for us.
We have our own memories, too, and our own games we played. And we have something unique to say about those good old days, but none of us really have a voice. Even in the Xennial sphere, we're on the extreme end of that range. Is it just me, or do us 1985'rs feel like a ghost group?

1985 is just straight Millennial. Xennials cut our video game chops on the generation before the NES with Atari, Intellivision, early PC games, etc.
Kade7596@reddit
kids born in 1985 definitely had the opportunity to come across a 2600 but it definitely would've already felt classic with the SNES coming out by just 5 years old
osddelerious@reddit
I guess we did. I was born in 1979 and played digger and bricks on original PCs but really i think of myself as the nes generation.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
85 had NES, Arcades, Genesis, and SNES. The Golden Age!!
rjcpl@reddit
The SNES is still relatively new tech that came out like 15 years ago tops 😂

Look, r/realauthormattjanak said I could have a seat on the council, so I'm taking it.
But yeah, good point. I definitely cut my chops on the NES, but my first console experience was Coleco Vision, believe it or not.
rjcpl@reddit
Not that it matters anyway 🙃
osddelerious@reddit
Are t people born in 1985 outside the xennial range? I don’t care, just curious.
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
I don't know. This subreddit's sidebar says that sometimes 1975-1985 is considered Xennial, so..
osddelerious@reddit
If that’s true then micro generation isn’t the right term. More like half generation.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
1985, my birth year, is a weird cohort. Most of us remember AOL, Napster, Linkin Park, Boy Bands, as our cultural experience yet some of us were already initiated by MTV, FM Radio, being outside by ourselves, etc.
If someone says I don't meet the "Xennial Purity Test" I have enough X in me not to care. 😂
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
Same. I have an older brother, and he basically let me tag along with him through his Xennial experience, so I was co-opted in.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Older sister here!
realauthormattjanak@reddit
Y'all are granted a seat on the council, but not the rank of master.
bokatan778@reddit
How can you do this??
realauthormattjanak@reddit
*stares motherfuckerly
bokatan778@reddit
Take a seat
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
Reminds me of hanging out with my older brother and his friends back in the day. My responsibility was to clean the NES games to prepare them for use.
nocapnonerf@reddit
Blowin’ them games..I remember 😆
realauthormattjanak@reddit
My siblings were Gen X from 69 and 65, so I got to play with their old toys, but had nobody after they moved out.

unchangedman@reddit
Cause you are not a Xennial
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
But inside I am. Plus, some ranges include 1975-1985. I have little to nothing in common with Mill's except knowledge of some of their references, and obviously a familiarity with the internet.
unchangedman@reddit
Those born in 1985 did not start real school until after 1990 and were still in high school during 911. The way we chose our futures before/after events like that maybe different. I've seen ideas behind work ethic and paying dues form differently, just from the age group.
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I was 16 when 911 happened. Didn't change my future plans though. I knew I was going to be writer since I was 12.
unchangedman@reddit
A lot of people joined the armed forces in 2000, 2001 with no idea there would be years of conflict later
ChimmyChongaBonga@reddit
Don't let the gatekeepers get you down. I was born in February of 85 and had a firmly Xennial upbringing. I definitely feel a disconnect around millennials.
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
msheehan418@reddit
You’re a xennial.
MxMicahDeschain@reddit
You're absolutely free to associate with whatever you'd like. Truly. No one can take your experience from you. 1985, though, despite what AI results might be drumming up, is pretty firmly millennial. I think the most concise and accurate way to define Xennial is the Star Wars kids, 77-83.
SlackerDS5@reddit
If you are one of us, then you will have to adopt our ways. We do not need their love or attention. We are fine as we are. Let them squabble amongst themselves and leave us out of it.
bokatan778@reddit
That’s because we are part-Gen X
rjcpl@reddit
Xennials are also known as the Star Wars Generation. Born between release of a New Hope(77) and Return of the Jedi(83).
Physical-Name4836@reddit
You’re a millennial bud.
DefinitionSuperb1110@reddit
I thought the cutoff was '83
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
"It is generally believed that Xennials were born between 1977 and 1984, with the range sometimes extending as far as 1975-1985."
That's from this subreddit's sidebar, so...
Inevitable-While-577@reddit
Boooo!
ahawk99@reddit
My sis is an ‘85. Yes, no love for you guys, lol 😝
LBBNorty840@reddit (OP)
And my older bro is 83'. Hahaha. Oh well.
ahawk99@reddit
lol, that’s hilarious 😆
wyc1inc@reddit
This mothafucka has time traveled to 1885, 1955, and 2015 and thinks he gets no love
NoAnnual3259@reddit
Shouldn’t have bought that sports almanac though.

I was greedy. My bad.
