Understandable, Gabs. Understandable. I had a pretty hard time warming up to Tara, and this episode in general — I mean,

Did Tara have to beat the crap out of Gabrielle at the tavern? If you want to impress Xena maybe don't start by trying to bite off her partner's ear?
Did Xena have to be that dismissive towards Gabrielle? (Re: A piece of Gabrielle's ear. “Only a little bit and she apologised.”)54545454545454545454545443 (That’d be my cat, Cecilia, weighing in.)

Gabrielle has the patience of a saint, towards both Tara and Xena. And my only takeaway: when she tells you to stay down, STAY DOWN.

This is so specific but this episode gives me flashbacks to my retail days training young new hires and I get so frustrated on Gabrielle’s behalf haha The way I’ve given that same speech almost verbatim (save for “she almost got us killed” lol) to my bosses and gotten the same reaction from them Xena has

I think Xena 'looking' soft added to the fantasy genre of the character. She has the strength of 10 men, but is also a seductress, if you will. Plus, she's got to appeal to wide audience. Having her look, generally, normal, as in no oversized attributes or muscles made her a 'comfortable' choice. Gabrielle wasn't the anchor, she could bulk a little without affecting the target demographics.

Probably helped that Renee LOVED fight scenes and took up tai Kwon do classes. (However thats spelled) Lucy HATED em, so she never put any real effort into learning the moves or getting buff. Lol

I feel like Tara was one of those characters you love to hate, obnoxious, yes! Bratty, definitely! A complete pain in the… you get my point but she is just a typical teenager with dreams of meeting and fighting alongside her hero of course (like many teenagers) she thinks she can take on the world! The problem with that Gabrielle, so what to do? Oust her of course! Not the greatest idea and when Gabrielle tells her to “stay down!” oh boy she should have! Of course Xena knows what’s up and she knew that Gabrielle would give Tara an attitude adjustment with some tough love which did help her to see things differently. I find Tara and Amarice are quite similar in the way they act but both had the opportunity to learn and change and when we see Tara again she isn’t as bad and is actually trying to do good. Which I think really makes Xena happy knowing she put her on the right path hence why her and Gabrielle stayed to assist with the situation she was in. I will say I did enjoy this episode as it’s got done great comedy moments and the added bonus the theme for Tara was just spot on! I love the mischievous sound of it! 😆

I was also a wee bit disappointed with Xena’s apparent nonchalance and dismissiveness of Gabrielle in this episode; and this was what, just an episode after OAAA? You’d think Xena would be a little bit more protective of Gabrielle after.

Yes, that confused me a little, this indifference.

Because, sometimes, there is a super cute episode of Xena with Gabi and then it is followed by an episode in which there is indifference between them.

Like the "Sappho Poem" episode that is later followed by Xena as Cleopatra, flirting with Mark Antony.

In the same way, there is the episode "The Search" and then there is another episode where they are not so united.

lol I watched this episode yesterday, I vaguely recognized Tara but I thought she was Mischa Barton, then it turned out to be Shiri Appleby(so close) lol. Gabby definitely has extraordinary patience and I think Xena nurtures her better side even though it seems unfair
