Simpsons quotes I understand. I knew a couple people who would constantly quote anchorman though...I had no idea what these references were until I rode a bus one time that played the movie. I was never a big Will Ferrel fan.
This is what happens when my husband and I get together with my sister and brother-in-law. Throw in some Bob's Burgers quotes and we've got days of conversation.
I noticed that there are no B batteries. I think that's to avoid confusion, cause if there were you wouldn't know if someone was stuttering. 'Yes, hello I'd like some b-batteries.' 'What kind?' 'B-batteries.' 'What kind?' 'B-batteries!'
And to me, that's extra scary. Because somewhere out there, a large, out of focus monster is roaming the countryside. Run! He's fuzzy! Get out of here!
Apparently this makes you a "giant nerd" but whatever. Finding out other people in the dorm knew how to defend themselves against fresh fruit by releasing the tiger was total delight.
My wife and I getting married, settling down, buying a house, and having kids led to this line being quoted more than it should have been for several years.
One of the funniest movies ever. Brick was the best. Where'd you get those clothes, at the toilet store? Loud noises. I love lamp. Steve carrel is so funny. No one but him could ever be Micheal Scott. Don't get me started on Prison Mike
Once I was at the mall and someone loudly yelled yeaaah and then someone across the food court yelled whaaaat and without even thinking about it I had to yell OKAY!
When I was a teenager, I made INSTANT BEST FRIENDS with two other punk guys in class (we’d never met or even spoken) when one of them did the “BUD”, the second “Wise”, then I did “er?” just like the ad frogs. The first guy started laughing, said “Fuck yeah, are we friends?!”
Oh, god. I was late to watching it and worked at a bar. I got so sick of everyone randomly saying that line it miles any desire i had to watch the movie.
Quoting things as a joke needs context to be funny. People just blurting out the same non sequitur and laughing at themselves is no effort garbage. It should be discouraged with a spritz of water from a spray bottle and a firm "NO!"
Yes. Went on Spring Break to Panama City in college in 2004. At any given moment you could hear Chappelle Show quotes, especially “I’m Rick James bitch”, being yelled all day and night.
I just want to mention there was a different version of the movie, whole other plot and everything, that was released as a bonus disc to home media. "Wake Up Ron Burgundy!"
I say it here because a shocking number of fans of the film don't know about it. It's still pretty funny

Roofman was pretty good, not pure comedy but good enough. I liked good fortune. Nobody 2 was pretty funny. But none of those are straight comedy like the naked gun, which I thought was just ok. None of these would get me to fo to the theater though.
I watch movies while playing games and cooking dinner and stuff. I can listen to a movie pretty well and certain movies dont play well to that. Music has always been a good queue of when to watch, but for things like horror movies, where half the mystique is the on screen terror it doesnt mean much to only pay attention during the jump scares. Naked gun had a lot of sight gags so it doesnt play as well.
I made friends with a girl in Spanish class in HS solely for our love of Billy Madison quotes and we are still friends to this day and went and saw Sandler in our city this past Sept when he was on the road. I just wish he knew that I made a lifelong friend because of him.
In 2004 we started posting literal memes to a cork board in the hall. The memes were targeted to specific people in the school and we gathered around it each period to shit on the next target. You couldn’t be caught posting. We would design and print in the library and post between periods. Should have seen the future coming.
There is still a not insignificant number of people in my contact list that I could just text a quote from any of these movies and get one back in minutes.
We quoted SNL, Adam Sandler (they’re all gunna laugh at you and some movies), Eddie Murphy (mostly Delirious but that was younger years) and Jim Carrey movies
Me and my friends in college all dressed like the dudes in Anchorman which had just come out for Halloween. One of them was DJing a Halloween party and told us all to show up in costume. None of us knew the people at the party but the dude DJing stopped his music mid-song and over the mic called out “NEWS TEAM, ASSEMBLE!”
And like it was scripted we all ran up to the front and he started singing Afternoon delight and we just sang it, harmonized and everything,
It was amazing. Crowd went wild. Then we went back to dancing and drinking all night.
This ruined anchorman for me. I didn’t watch it when it first came out but I tried to a few years later. I had already heard every line that was supposed to be funny quoted like 5000 times already. When the lines were dropped in the movie it was not funny at all to me because I had already heard it all from my dipshit friends
I remember being in Chicago in the summer of 2003, at one of the bars people kept shouting out random Old School lines. We all thought we were Frank the Tank
For real. Richard Dawkins coined the term in 1976, and even in the modern internet sense, image macros and viral clips were definitely around in 2004 when Anchorman came out.
There were image macros on AOL way back. I had all the warez, AOHell, AOPussy, Phishers etc. It was a very fun time on the internet to be 14. “Proggie Kidz” were def a thing everywhere.
lol I remember when I first started high school my like "home room" (different type of school, hard to explain) in the morning had this group of 17 year olds that would just quote the movie and sing Afternoon Delight. This would be have been in like 2005, so it's funny that this was just before like the 2000s comedy Golden Age.
You do understand that the comedy style of Anchorman in a comic form is exactly the same type in a majority of Memes? It's almost like they evolved from it.
I had entire conversations with Super Troopers, BTTF2, The Big Lebowski, Full Metal Jacket, ATHF, The Brak Show and Sea Lab as our only forms of dialog.

RIP mainstream comedy movies
Unusual_Oil_1079@reddit
Roofman was pretty good, not pure comedy but good enough. I liked good fortune. Nobody 2 was pretty funny. But none of those are straight comedy like the naked gun, which I thought was just ok. None of these would get me to fo to the theater though.
Smokeythemagickamodo@reddit
Yeah, and thanks for the reccs.
I also thought the Naked Gun was just ok, it missed something, maybe the supporting cast was not as good, IDK.
It just didn’t have a lot of laugh out loud moments
Unusual_Oil_1079@reddit
I watch movies while playing games and cooking dinner and stuff. I can listen to a movie pretty well and certain movies dont play well to that. Music has always been a good queue of when to watch, but for things like horror movies, where half the mystique is the on screen terror it doesnt mean much to only pay attention during the jump scares. Naked gun had a lot of sight gags so it doesnt play as well.
