Anyone else disappointed they didn't hear the engine?
UnLuckyKenTucky@reddit
Absolutely. And disgusted by what I did hear...
Party_Ad_8595@reddit
Or see the car move.
I'da loved to see what 600lbs of torque does to the driver's back in that chair

(well, near enough)
muricabrb@reddit
That's... pretty whelming.
Red_Dawn_2012@reddit
That's why I prefer our lord and savior, the GMC twin six.

Worldwide_brony@reddit
That’s cool those motors are rare in the US, I didn’t realize they made it to Australia/New Zealand.
flatmoon2002@reddit
that's because it's a diesel train engine lol.
Haunting_Dragonfly_3@reddit
The turbos really quiet that one down. The OP zoomies should bark. Hopefully it's got rear-mount blowers, feeding the inlet tubes just above the headers. Otherwise, they're like any non-forced induction diesel, turds.
mrtn17@reddit
Dont you enjoy the stupid music ppl keep adding to their tiktok videos? Benny Hill for the funny video, piano for sad video, old timey music for this retro hotrod, otherwise viewers have no clue what to feel
IDatedSuccubi@reddit
Oh no, oh no, oh no no no no no

Good, reliable air cooled engine. Noted for their typical whine caused by the forced air cooling. Construction was relatively simple, a main block that housed the crankshaft and and camshaft, 12 separately mounted cylinders and cylinder heads, allowing relatively easy in frame repairs and component exchange. Besides the V - type engines, Deutz also produced inline - type engines using the same design of separate cylinders and cylinder heads.
These engines were a huge commercial succes and used in every imaginable application, ranging from civilian and military trucks, earthmoving and road building equipment, generators and many others. These air cooled diesel engines were in production from the 1940's untill the 1990's. Over 4.000.000 Deutz air cooled engines were produced.
Erlend05@reddit
We got an i2 variant in our tractor
joeoram87@reddit
Is it suitable for a hot rod though? This thing sounds like it should be just chugging away for weeks at a time at the same rpm. Not razing round town
Unlikely-Law-4367@reddit
No. This engine belongs in a off road truck or an excavator. A wrong choice for a hotrod.
The old saying "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".
krzkrl@reddit
It's criminal they chose this music in the video and not raw sound
Unlikely-Law-4367@reddit
I agree 100%.
theonetrueelhigh@reddit
No mufflers, just shouty trumpets. That combined with the not-to-be-denied noise of the cooling blower implies that the builder isn't prioritizing subtlety.
Marty_Mtl@reddit
...I'd become exhausted after a 30 minutes ride! (and partially deaf too !)
GuyFromDeathValley@reddit
I own a little, 3-cylinder diesel tractor from 1958. The exhaust goes straight through the hood up, with a muffler though.
Let me tell you. after a 3 hour drive even on half throttle, My left ear is ringing like crazy. I drove that tractor with a straight pipe exhaust once, didn't even make it past the town sign. wayy too noisy.
WatermelonRick@reddit
I'm always wearing ear protection when I'm driving my machines. Always
GuyFromDeathValley@reddit
I would, but my dad constantly gives me shit for wearing ear protection while driving in traffic. Because in my country, when an ambulance, fire truck or police with siren and flashers approach, we have to make room for them, always. My dad believes I can't hear an ambulance approaching from behind when wearing ear protection.
Not gonna buy another pair of ear protection for my dad to throw away. I'll take it and be done.
WatermelonRick@reddit
wow that's bullshit. Just make your dad drive with ear protection and go honk a horn behind him. Or do you think he would purposely lie to not hear it to prove a point.
Hearing is precious. Protect it
Dodecahedonism_@reddit
I can't even finish my burger before getting annoyed at Portillo's music.
AxleSpark@reddit
Is the for the THC prohibition?
EffectiveConfection8@reddit
I need it.
Farmerstubble@reddit
Co car! Does anyone know what song that is?
InstanceOk8790@reddit
No and I'm thankful that I don't.
blah9210@reddit
Its off center in the front opening and I can't unsee it
AscendedViking7@reddit
God, I love hot rods.

Cowfootstew@reddit
When i was in diesel school, one of my teachers would tell us about the air cooled deutz that he would rebuild when he went to live in Europe after Vietnam. He said that some German diesels would have tolerances so tight that they wouldn't use a head gasket. I thought hat was impressive.
Barbarian_818@reddit
I wonder where he got a transmission for that. The Deutz V12 engines are usually used in stationary or marine applications.i don't know if many transmissions that can handle both over a 1000 lb/ft of torque and highway speeds.
Of course, with such minimal weight to haul around, it can probably run with no gearing at all, just a clutch.
SuDragon2k3@reddit
It's the 1930's Batmobile
mini4x@reddit
Are those headers totally fake?
hugeyakmen@reddit
I don't think so. The video someone posted in the comments of a similar Deutz engine has headers coming out from the same location, albeit feeding into a turbo in that one. I don't know what that horizontal tube above the headers is, but it appears to be separate
mini4x@reddit
From the video the tube looks liek the exahust output to the turbos, or are those the forced air cooling tubes?
x_x-O_o-x_x@reddit
Absolute waste of time and money.
Weird-one0926@reddit
Not your time, not your money. Yet you wasted your time and money to comment on it.
x_x-O_o-x_x@reddit
"Yet you wasted your time and money to comment on it." How did I waste my money professor? What are you the reddit police? Talk about a waste of time.
Weird-one0926@reddit
You used the electricity necessary for the comment
happystamps@reddit
Just like all other hobbies
Mouse_951@reddit
Why? Someone has a dream, and get it. Isn't that good?
airfryerfuntime@reddit
My guy, you own a Tesla, and not even one of the good ones. You don't get to have an opinion.
x_x-O_o-x_x@reddit
You are someones "guy" I'm sure, but it's not me. I do own a Tesla amongst other things, you, will never get it, in any case "Opinions are like assholes... everybody has one".
airfryerfuntime@reddit
Yeah, ok.

Should have used thicker aluminum, but the easy workaround for the distortion is treating the surface to make it matt
ahfoo@reddit
Oh, are those panels aluminum? I was going to ask if they were formed on a wheel machine. I want to fabricate one but I'm always curious to see what other people do with them first. I was thinking they were steel body panels bent on a wheel.
Edison5000@reddit
Sort of a steampunk version of the batmobile
milkbeard-@reddit
Reminds me of the guy that makes those crazy builds for Jay Leno
Feefifiddlyeyeoh@reddit
The interior is just a smidge too minimal for my taste.
perldawg@reddit
probably needs to be that open to keep the air cooled engine from turning the cabin into an oven
tudorapo@reddit
Lightweight construction, that barely 1200 ccm engine needs every help it can get!
...oh.
Vodnik-Dubs@reddit
Now just waiting to see someone do one with the EMD Dual super charged v16s they use in their locos.

Forced air induction by jet turbine seems fun
E28forever@reddit
It’s air cooled, the it’s a fan, not a jet intake…

Dr1ver4@reddit
This is awesome!
Pooch76@reddit
I have a problem that what looks like the intake for a turbine belies a diesel engine.
birgor@reddit
It's a Deutz engine with it's original belt-driven fan but with a cone on it.
PigSlam@reddit
My family's farm had a Deutz tractor. It was a late 1970s model, and had an air cooled 6 cylinder. It had a similar cooling fan.
birgor@reddit
Yeah, no matter their size, age or number of cylinders do they have the same fan. Very distinctive feature, here is a tiny two cylinder version.
LookAtMeImOnABeach@reddit
That things a beast
Addicted-2Diving@reddit

burgonies@reddit
That music is AIDS
