Why are they called medical certificates if they have an expiration?

Might just be semantics. I've heard people say "it's not a pilot's license because it never expires". So conversely why are they called medical certs if they **do** expire?

People are dumb. Plenty of certificates around the world expire. I have a pilot licence that doesn't expire, and used to hold one that did.

Forklift certification isn't even a thing. Its just some guy at the place singing off on "I gave this person training". It isn't like there is a governing body or accreditation for forklifts. Even OSHA doesn't give a shit.

OSHA does give a shit if there's an accident and employers have to comply with osha requirements https://www.osha.gov/etools/powered-industrial-trucks/training

Because in language, many (most?) words have multiple different definitions, and ignorant people choose to focus on just one of them and ignore the others.

I don't think anything in the certificate definition suggests it can or cannot expire. The googles tells me "a certificate is an attestation of a fact" - e.g. you graduated uni you get a certificate. A license is permission. Nothing in either suggests that it can or can not expire. You can have permission for a time, until you need to re up said permission. You have certificate stating a fact (you're medically sound) but you need to re-attest to that fact every <period>. Language is however a fluid thing and can change .. but either definition I don't see any issues with.
