Told my mom my 25th high school reunion is this year. She said, “Are you sure?”

And I had nothing clever to say in reply to that. Any way, if you graduated class of 2000 and you’re attending reunion over Thanksgiving break, good luck to you. Math is hard.
lavasca@reddit
They still happen. I went to a private school. The school is agressively seeking donations. Every 5 years they are asking you back for 3 days of open bar, free sushi, hedonistic dessert and celebrating yester year. It is a block from a beach so they block off rooms in case you opt to not stay with family.
The alumni association is proactive and they want you to network in your current city. I imagine it is even more aggressive on the east coast. My tenth grade lit teacher was blunt about it. “When you open your mouth people need to know you’re special and that i why I’m forcing you to memorize Chaucer!”
ZoeCat7819@reddit
Similar situation here. My high school always hosts reunions because they want that alumni $. I’ve attended and had fun at all of my reunions (30th will be next year) but I never donate to the school.
ladyeclectic79@reddit
Class of ‘97 here, I haven’t been to any of my HS reunions because fuck them kids. 🤣 I was bullied thru MS/HS and my school isn’t even around anymore, so I couldn’t care less about those people.
ImprovementThat2403@reddit
Are you doing okay?
Klutzy-Delivery-5792@reddit
Do people still have class reunions? I also graduated in 2000 but have never been contacted about attending a reunion. I mean, I wouldn't go if you paid me, so maybe that's why I haven't been invited.
SensitiveArtist@reddit
Covid killed my school's reunion. We only had the 10 and a 21st. Neither were well attended from what I was told. I doubt we'll have a 30 year one.
jtmann05@reddit
We had a 10th for mine, but I don’t think we’ve done anything since then. I’m pretty sure my class uses Facebook to organize them, so I could have missed it since I closed my account 5+ years ago. I wouldn’t mind going if it were convenient, but I also live thousands of miles away from my hometown now.
clutzycook@reddit
Well, the 20th was likely kiboshed thanks to COVID.
elphaba00@reddit
I went to my 20th in 2016 and quickly ducked out when I realized that everyone else just planned on getting blackout drunk. COVID killed off the 25th in 2021. I haven’t heard anything about the 30th next year, but they can lose my invitation and I won’t care.
jtmann05@reddit
I’m class of ‘01, but still could have been the case
MundaneHuckleberry58@reddit
I was shocked to learn mine did. I learned bc I just happened to be in town the weekend it was happening. I learned bc friends who have Facebook told me. If you don’t have Facebook, I guess they don’t happen lol
GasStationChicken-@reddit
There was a 10 year for my class and I found out about it a year later. They didn’t invite me. I’m not sure I would have gone, but it was like a high school bully flashback feeling to actually not get invited.
musical_shares@reddit
Maybe this will help cheer you up:
The meanest Barbie from my high school planned our 10 year. Myself and pretty much all the other band, glee and drama kids or non sports players weren’t invited, which was fine and honestly expected.
I heard from a friend who went that they ended up at a bar and it was super awkward because the head ringleader had “decided” no one could bring their spouses. The crowd was mostly just her and her mean friends from high school with a few scattered others who promptly started leaving early when they saw there wasn’t really a crowd coming.
Well, apparently the planner made some deal where the crowd would imbibe a certain amount of alcohol or a minimum charge would be applied to the “group” (her). They were still many hundreds of dollars of short with only dwindling numbers of attendees when she ascended a table and went full Karen on everyone, demanding money from the few stragglers.
My friend showed up at my apartment downtown shortly after (she left without paying a nickel) and we fucking laughed and laughed and laughed. We still laugh about it.
GasStationChicken-@reddit
This is the best story! I could totally see this happening to the organizer of the reunion I wasn’t invited to!
Mine was very similar to yours - only the popular kids were invited as far as I could tell. Thank you for sharing and the laugh!
AlwaysUseAFake@reddit
I haven't heard of anyone doing one for my year. Or any of the years around mine
Top-Wolverine-8684@reddit
Our class of 99 had a 20 year. The woman in charge is one of those people who still lives in town, still has the same friends, is still going to the same bars on the weekends... She was on Facebook having a very public hissy fit and meltdown because no one was buying tickets. Hardly anyone showed up. Why would you??? If I wanted to keep in touch with someone, that's what social media is for. I have ZERO desire to go back to my hometown and relive those days.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
There was a small group from my class who planned the 5, 10, 15 and 20 year reunions. I don’t know if they did a 25 one. It was easier to keep track when I had Facebook. I didn’t go to any of them.
Zero_Imacat@reddit
I'm class of '03, and there was a 20th reunion for us. I didn't go, but it was a huge turn out from the social media posts that I've seen.
CasualEveryday@reddit
Never been to one. I don't know if they've even managed to have one. I saw pictures on Facebook of the committee meeting at a chain restaurant for the 10 year but never got an invitation and haven't heard a peep since then.
Drslappybags@reddit
I was never contacted about my 20th. I only found out because they combined two years and a friend from that year let me know about that.
austinmiles@reddit
We had a tenth and a delayed 20th. Both scheduled after we had big vacations planned so I wasn’t able to go. Which sort of reflects high school for me. I wasn’t particularly involved in school stuff but had a lot of friends I wouldn’t mind seeing in person.
seche314@reddit
My class uses Facebook for it
llammacheese@reddit
We just had ours. I imagine like many other classes of 2000, out 20 year reunion was cancelled due to COVID, so we opted to get together for 25 instead.
I didn’t go to my ten year, but if I’m honest, this one was good for the soul. We’re all old enough now that nobody was trying to impress anyone and it was just great to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in literal decades. There was a familiarity being with people from high school that relieved a lot of adult stress.
Spartan04@reddit
Also class of 2000 and some from my class have tried to organize reunions but in most cases there’s only enough interest that it turns into a get together at a bar or restaurant. I believe they tried to one for 5 years, 10, years, and then 20, which never got beyond planning due to the pandemic.
I always described my high school class as the “meh” class when it came to school spirit, especially compared to some of the earlier classes that were there at the same time. So we’re not a very active class when it comes to alumni things like class reunions. I suppose if a 30th happens I might consider going but we’ll see.
PsionicKitten@reddit
My parents' house, the house I lived in when I went to high school, still gets invitations. I haven't gone to any. I bet there's one for the 25th this year as well.
I really didn't make many friends (and none of them were good friends, more just acquaintances, my age) from my high school. I found my people were one and two years younger than me, so my high school reunion wouldn't reunite me with the people I'd like to see anyway.
fermentedradical@reddit
Did my 20th in 2018. Who knows post-COVID if the 30th will happen. All that stuff seems on the decline.
clutzycook@reddit
My class just had their 25th last weekend. It was entirely planned on Social Media so if they weren't on FB, they likely didn't get the memo. I opted not to go as it's over 2 1/2 hours from where I live and I wasn't impressed with our 10th.
night-swimming704@reddit
We had our 25th this summer. I didn’t find out about it until two weeks after the event. The organizers made a post on Facebook and that was the extent of their outreach effort. For those of us not on Facebook, they just relied on word of mouth.
Klutzy-Delivery-5792@reddit
Yeah, that could be why. I live a few hundred miles away now and deleted Facebook five years ago.
BoysenberryKind5599@reddit
Lol, I graduated college in 2000, pregnant.
Sometimes I forget to use the year as a marker for graduation, but always use it for daughter's age.
elphaba00@reddit
I joked that I specifically chose 2000 as the year to get married so we’d never forget the number of years
weberm70@reddit
I have no idea if my class had a 25th but I’m thousands of miles away so I wouldn’t go anyway. They did have a tenth, which I also didn’t go to.
dishwasher_mayhem@reddit
I turn 50 next year. My dad can't understand how he has a son who is older than he is.
singleguy79@reddit
I can understand 10 year reunions, but 5 years?
fidgetypenguin123@reddit
It was probably because the 20 year ones weren't happening during Covid in 2020 so turned it into 25. It will be interesting to see if they then do a 30 yr one or 35 yr one lol
Icy-Finance5042@reddit
I had mine this past summer and had fun at mine.
81stredditaccount@reddit
You couldn’t pay me to go to my 25th reunion. My HS somehow omitted my yearbook photo and repeated my twin brother’s one.
I also hated about 99% of my classmates.
Yes I continue to hold a grudge and no I’m not dropping it.
antsam9@reddit
There were 3 Asian guys in our high school graduating class and they got the names mixed up on every single one. I thought it was hilarious (I was one of the 3)
seriouslynope@reddit
Wait that means my 25 year is next year. Wtf
Thin-Atmosphere3166@reddit
Class of 2000 here too, haven't heard anything about any reunions 🤷 I didn't like 90% of my classmates so I wouldn't go anyway .
AMugOfPeppermintTea@reddit
We had a 20th reunion in 2019 so got lucky getting that in pre-COVID. I think there were rumblings about a possilbe 25th last year but I don't know if anything came of that one. I guess I'lll see what happens when we get to 2029.
thrwaway070879@reddit
Oh shit I forgot all about that one. and the one after that. Maybe I'll remember the 30th? Maybe.
bluemitersaw@reddit
... You just made me realize my 30th is coming up in June. That's like 7 months away..... My 30th.... Fuuuuuuuuuck
TheREALBaldRider@reddit
No idea what’s going on with high school reunions. I’ve moved at least 12 times since graduating and live more than 3000 miles away. No one has tried to contact me and I don’t have social media to be contacted. I don’t even remember more than a dozen people I went to school with. Sounds like an awful time, though, with everyone pretending.
TheBrownCouchOfJoy@reddit
I went to my 10th. Skipped my 20th and my grandmother was really bent out of shape about it lol. Won’t go to my 25th either. I already see the people I want to. I don’t need to buy a ticket to see the others.
wiserTyou@reddit
'01 here. I'll go if we have one, I wouldn't mind catching up with some old friends. No idea if we had any before, if we did I didn't get the memo.
RaphaelSolo@reddit
Honestly a reunion would be nice, we tried to set one up for 10 year. No one was willing to pay for it. They wanted to go sure, but not buy tickets.
HopeThisIsUnique@reddit
We were supposed to have a 20th, but COVID. Had a 25th, felt surreal, even had a school tour of the old high school and felt completely foreign.
Not_So_Bad_Andy@reddit
My 30th was earlier this year. I didn't go.
Timely-Farmer-1692@reddit
Hard pass. Not going to bother with mine.
CunnyMaggots@reddit
I'm class of 99 and I was invited to the 10 year... but it was so expensive to attend and I'm like I didn't even like the people in my graduating class... lol.
Lessa22@reddit
I’d rather gouge out my eyes and be drawn and quartered than so much as be in the same 50 mile radius of my high school and former classmates.
I graduated and never spoke to those ignorant hillbillies again. Just another reason I’m thankful for never being on social media.
DHammer79@reddit
Canadian and class of 97 here. Haven't been contacted for any reunion. Reunions aren't as big here, though. Even if I was, I wouldn't bother anyway. Go to see people again, I didn't like the first time. Yeah, not gonna happen.
dgarbutt@reddit
I went to my 10th reunion and was very hesitant about it as I was bullied and abused throughout high school. But seeing my bully there made me feel so much better about my life. I'm by no means the bullied to ultra successful type, just average but boy did he decline majorly after high school. My 20th reunion went down well too, obviously a few of the women who were...well bitchy, catty, I dunno, also apologised but presumably because now they have teens who are in a similar situation to where I was back in the day.
I don't think 25ths are common here in Australia, I think we're more decadal for our high school reunions, which means oh gawd my 30th is only a couple years away. No I'm not old.
MajesticEmergency@reddit
The very thought of going to a 25th HS reunion this year stresses me out. We don't one planned surprisingly though, and I know the people who want them are pissy about the class president, treasurer, etc from our class have been MIA on planning anything leaving some to feel like they have to fill a void that they shouldn't have to. Oh well, IDGAF really.
Ok_Machine6739@reddit
Oh, shit. Class of '01. If they were doing one it would be coming up. I doubt they are, for one the one person from highschool i'm still friends with was a year ahead of me and currently lives there, he would at least have made a dismissive remark about not going to his.
ImaginationRadio-@reddit
Ours is coming up next week I think.
BritOnTheRocks@reddit
I suppose I finished secondary school 30 years ago, and graduated university 25 years ago. I wouldn’t know if there were any reunions though, I don’t keep in touch with anyone.

My uncles were in disbelief I turned 40 earlier this summer I just responded “okay when do you think 1985 was”
clutzycook@reddit
Did you get to watch them short circuit at that thought?

lol but it’s okay when I talk to my baby cousin who’s born in 2000 and claims to be 25 I am in the same boat

_R_A_@reddit
I went to my 10th, mostly out of curiosity. Such a waste of time.
moonbunnychan@reddit
Mine was in September. I didn't go. I looked at pictures that got posted online and it looked like about 15 people in our class of over 200 actually went.
yayoffbalance@reddit
I always find this stuff oddly mildly interesting. like, those who do and want to go to thier reunions and those who are like "LOL fuck that!" I kinda feel like it's easy-ish to tell what the HS experience was like (or hometown experience, for that matter) for folks based on how they feel about reunions. I mean, it's not a duality issue, because obviously, but it's just one of those things (i guess not dissimalar than the "Beatles or Rolling Stones" but thta one is a bit off from what i'm getting at, if that makes sense).
throwawayhbgtop81@reddit
Lol I'm going to my 25th next weekend.
Exciting_Agent3901@reddit
Graduated in 1997. I assume there have been reunions. I don’t even know how to find out if there has been or will be any. Not really interested anyway.
eggs_erroneous@reddit
Same. I graduated in '96 and I haven't heard anything about any reunions and wouldn't have bothered anyway. I think reunions are only fun for people who became successful and who are still skinny. I am neither of these things.
MarsupialUnfair3828@reddit
I think it depends on where you went to school.....small town compared large city. My wife grew up in a small town in NY, she gets notifications amd are still really close to alot of HS friends. I went to a Milwaukee Public school, I never received anything and I only talk to talk to on buddy of mine.
7empestSpiralout@reddit
I will miss this one as well lol
Oldpuzzlehead@reddit
2000 high school grad and I celebrated my 25 year high school reunion by myself because that is how many of my high school friends are still alive.
Klutzy-Delivery-5792@reddit
I deleted Facebook during lockdown because as I went through my friend list I counted over twenty people that had does from opioid addiction. It's real bad where I'm from.
CheeseGraterFace@reddit
I lost a bunch of people too. Like 2010 to 2015 was really bad - I was getting about one message a month that someone had died.
Klutzy-Delivery-5792@reddit
Yeah, it really fucking sucks. My best friend in high school hit the hardest. It's the main reason I chose my PhD topic of tracking opioids (and other things) in wastewater to help find hotspots of abuse. The city of Boston is using my data to develop an algorithm to best place EMTs and Narcan dispensers around the city to help prevent overdoses.
CheeseGraterFace@reddit
That’s really cool.
Hetjr@reddit
Also 2000z We did a 10 and it was a lot of fun. We tried to do 20 year. A whole weekend thing at a resort are in the town was planned. Bring the kids type thing. Everyone hangs and has a good time. Kind of like our project graduation. But then covid happened. Thankfully it was dropped before anyone sank any money into it. iirc, we had like 30+ people committed. Plus spouses and kids.
BeenisHat@reddit
Yeah, pretty sure. Also not going because the few people I still talk to from HS are on social media. I don't care to see the rest of the people. I didn't particularly care for school while I was there and only had a small group of friends.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I don't even have knowledge if my class had a high school reunion. Either way I'm sure all of us are happier never seeing each other again.
UptownJunk802@reddit
I had a 25th reunion this March not of high school but a bunch of college friends. If high school was good for you absolutely go! This reunion of mine has kept me going through the rest of this craptastic year. Seeing them all was good for my soul.
Mac_A81@reddit
We had our 25th reunion last month. I didn’t go, but it was fun looking at the slideshow of pictures they posted on Facebook.
Unique_Ad_3312@reddit
We had our 25 year reunion 3 weeks ago. It was tons of fun.
InvestmentMain8414@reddit
Sure math is hard...but I graduated in 97. Had my first kid '99....and I still have to remind myself that the 90's weren't 10-15 years ago.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Yes they are 🤔
BaddestKarmaToday@reddit
Who cares? I didn’t do my 10 year nor my 20 year. Facebook took care of all that. Plus it was $50 to attend and you got two drink tickets. I’m not paying $50 to see people I’ve either avoided for years or already know what they’ve been doing via social media.
Bland_Boring_Jessica@reddit
I had mine and people assumed I was going to my 10th not 25th. Consuming preservatives from the 1990’s has kept me young.
