Why are jacket potatoes becoming such a street food phenomenon here?

I've always thought kf jacket potatoes as a staple comfort food but seeing people queue for ages and shell out over £5 for a jacket is mindboggling. Is it not as common as I thought? I just can't see how people can get hyped about something so staple.
