Afaik it’s the same peas, just harvested later and dried. Very common winter ingredient from the old days when we could not get fresh stuff all year round.
I actually prefer the flavor of yellow pea soup. It’s quite different, more nutty, maybe closer to beans/chickpeas in flavor.
I was today years old when I learned that peas were a part of the legume family. What you posted (while seemingly delicious) seems more akin to pasta e fagioli, rather than pea soup. And now I want all three on this chilly New England night!
My mom made a spicy cabbage stew that I absolutely loved growing up. Only issue is that I’d be starving in an hour even if I had a few bowls. Was so good though and I’ve used it when cutting weight
Not really a soup person but will eat more of a stew. I'm sure it was good whatever it is (but not if it has tofu 🤢 personally...). I forgot tomato soup with groundbeef and corn myself.

ImBubbe@reddit

Apprehensive_Bee3327@reddit
I’ve never seen brown pea soup before.
DrettTheBaron@reddit
Not sure how green peas react, but this one is probably made with yellow peas, which make the soup a yellowish brown.
portstarling@reddit
til there are yellow peas

Where im from, pea soup is a traditional food that people eat a lot and its usually enjoyed with mustard which could give it a more brown colour
Apprehensive_Bee3327@reddit
That sounds interesting!
FrankGehryNuman@reddit
We got a Quebecois here. It’s also my favourite

okmijnmko@reddit
Funny, my lunch was green split peas w/salsa & airfryer medium tofu glazed w/yellow mustard & some ancho chile powder, 10/10 fiber & protein.
Adorable-Woman@reddit
Yay I’ve been getting really into cooking with tofu lately
apollo11733@reddit
It looks delicious and nutritious but could do without the tofu
hidinginthenight@reddit
Well, not very protein dense then
ratafia4444@reddit
I mean. Protein is protein. What else is there?
Zyphamon@reddit
beef broth + split peas + tofu + chicken = split pea soup that is brown colored.
InsertRadnamehere@reddit
Looks like bad mapo tofu. Without enough chile.
PeanutOrganic9174@reddit

oh, i see. I'm just used to the yellow pea soup with pork that we have in Sweden. I didnt mean any offense 😊
DrettTheBaron@reddit
Np. I mean. I'm not really sure if this is the czech variant either. But I imagine they're either mashed or mixed regardless.
cmitchell_bulldog@reddit
Looks like it could cure seasonal depression and a cold at the same time 😂
scaper8@reddit

Even if it's actually really tasty, that thing looks grim.
