Chimney Cleaning

Can anyone recommend a company for chimney inspection and cleaning? I called one company last week and they quoted $275 for an inspection and $99 cleaning if it passes inspection. Does that sound like typical pricing? Wondering if I should wait until after winter because I assume prices are inflated beginning this time of year but I really want to be able to use my chimney, especially if we get a deep freeze.

it's super important to get a thorough inspection, especially before winter. My go-to is a local, veteran-owned company called 1st Choice Residential that really focuses on safety and quality. They even offer a 30-day labor warranty, which is a nice peace of mind. Hope you find someone great!

I had a really really good experience with Off-Duty Chimney Sweeps. Definitely more reasonable than what you mentioned in the post.

It won’t pass inspection. That’s the racket for chimney sweeps. They take a bunch of photographs and act like your house is in imminent danger of burning down if you ever even think about having a fire. But they can fix it for the low low price of $5000. And it will only take them a few hours.

Yep I had an inspection on it when purchasing my home and that’s basically what happened. Said my house could explode and it needs immediate fixes totaling $2000 and I got daily calls and texts afterwards asking when I want to set an appointment for the fixes. I know it needs a cleaning and repairs to a few small cracks but I don’t want to feel like I’m talking to a used car salesman.

I bought a couple of tubes of black high temperature sealant and a caulk gun and filled in all the cracks I could reach. Cost me like $40. Use nitrile gloves. The stuff is sticky.
