ULPT: In most states trailers rated 2000gvw and lower arent tracked like cars

This means that a person can "make" one or even get one from someone they don't know and make it nice and legal. You need to get a certificate of origin from china or wherever which you can easily find templates for online. Once you have that you take it to the dmv and license it. Its that simple

I am to stupid to know what any of this means

OP advocating stealing a trailer and registering it as your own.
Emotional_Star_7502@reddit
Just buy the cheapest trailer from harbor freight and register it. Then turn it into whatever you need.
Redditsuxxnow@reddit (OP)
I was talking about getting one for free. And potentially better quality than harbor freight
Emotional_Star_7502@reddit
Yeah, me too. Harbor freight gives you a title for easy registration/no inspection. Just put that vin on whatever you make/get for free.
Redditsuxxnow@reddit (OP)
They give you a title? I don't understand whats in it for them?
tail_ler@reddit
The money you give them for the trailer
Redditsuxxnow@reddit (OP)
Ok well that makes sense. And it does have the advantage of being nice and legal

In my state the state police inspect the trailer and give it a VIN. You can legally make a homemade trailer, there’s zero reason to fake any sort of origin paperwork.

I worked at a place once that registered its small cube vans as being over 10,000lb because then they were not subject to state monitored inspections.

A legal cheap trailer that can make it harder to see your rear plate, is often cheaper than getting the vehicle re-registered. I once heard of a person that did this for over a year because the truck wouldn't pass emissions. He needed the truck to keep going tho so he could earn the money to fix it. So he hauled a trailer around with rakes and shit on the front making it hard to see the plate unless you had the exact right angle to look

No title needed in Tennessee. No plates required.

No thanks ATF
