hi guys. so like i said this isn’t a project car, but my daily driver. i should’ve got a picture but, at the time i wasn’t thinking abt it. i changed my spark plugs today and on the part where it screws down into the chamber it had a bit of oil on it. now, i know that’s usually not a good sign obviously. i don’t think it’s the head gasket because i have no symptoms of it. not even a misfire. however im asking you guys in your most honest opinion how long i can drive like this before being worried? should i look out for certain symptoms. i have no idea how long its been leaking and idk if its the valve cover gasket or piston rings, no idea or could be the spark plug tube like i was reading about. either way i have no money for a fix at the moment. i’m very broke. i’m 23 and in college. just lost my job as well. i need my car because i do spark driver to make money and i just spent $500 on allignment and outer tie rods to get done and needed tires. i have a 2008 pontiac G6 so it’s not like it’s the most reliable car but i travel for work and it’s done amazing the last 2 years. i’m wondering in everyone’s opinion when should i be super concerned about this problem? and how long do you think i will be able to drive with it like this? it’s not acting super weird. sometimes my RPMS bog down at idle but i never lose power. and it shutters at idle too when parked. please let me know in the most honest way possible but also please don’t be rude. i am trying my best and i really need my car. i don’t have the money or credit to go finance one

You can drive exactly how far until it fails. You already listed possible causes, you need to find out which one it is. I understand you’re looking for validation to be able to drive on it because you don’t have money for a mechanic, but there’s no way to diagnose it and give you an accurate answer based on just being oil on the plug.

I’m not necessarily looking for a diagnosis. I’m pretty sure it might be the valve cover gasket. the only problem is i am way too intimidated to do that myself and cannot afford a mechanic. so i’m just trying to ask any mechanics or other people on here how long they think driving it would be okay
