Not sure in this instance, but in commercial electrical install red tends to signify sockets supplied with backup power, meaning they'll stay live in the event of a power cut/full building isolation at the mains incomer.
You often see this in medical environments for critical life support equipment, but its also extremely common for CCTV or other data logging equipment.
Not all the sockets will be red but these are set aside for point of sale system and the kitchen display screens, if theres a power cut for whatever reason it would wipe every order and the system would restart
I used to work for McD on the POS and KVS systems. One night we were installing a new version in a restaurant and it went horribly wrong. The store had to open and we still were ready so they started doing it all on paper. It was amazing to see how efficient the crew were at just reacting and going with it. The customers barely noticed any difference in their experience. The crew are, generally, fantastic.
Thanks for the flashback of going into work years ago to all the screens off, the kitchen silent and a load of customers on the lobby asking when it would be back on (pre EOTF expansion)
At my office the red sockets were also powered during a power cut situation. They were never used for day to day use. Only things ever plugged onto them was charging AEDs.
I work in healthcare & can confirm, although only our switches are red, not the whole faceplate. But same thing. We keep pressure relieving air mattress & beds plugged in. Don’t want the air mattress to deflate in a power cut, & don’t want to be unable to lower a bed in an emergency when you need to do CPR.
We have all-red faceplates - I think it just depends what exactly was standard when at the time the installation was done.
All hospital beds with electric controls are required to have a manual CPR handle which will manually (and quickly) flatten the bed and drop the height (usually to it's lowest position) - you shouldn't be flaffing around with electronically adjusting the bed when your patient needs CPR.

Essential Services sockets. Sockets with either a UPS battery backup or a generator supply. Only essential items to be plugged into these to avoid overloading the backup service and causing it to fail.
Essential and non essential supplies do exactly as people have stated above… backup power / generator will keep these sockets live for life support machines I a hospital or so Big Macs can still be sold 🤪

Yep, used to work in NHS and all red sockets had UPS (uninterruptible power supply)

It's this

It would be absolute chaos during a busy spell

I did - sorry, fat fingers and quick typing.

That's interesting, though a shame - I had originally hoped it would just indicate them to be McSockets.

And also to warn people not to plug in heating devices (fan heaters, kettles, microwave ovens etc)
This may overload the UPS, or cause it to rapidly run out of battery during a power cut.
Trick_Charge_5776@reddit
That makes total sense! It's alays good to know which devices are protected during outages. Safety first…

Anyone that's worked in a commercial kitchen would be able to tell you: Red is for raw meat.
Blue sockets are for fish, yellow for cooked meat, brown for vegetables, green for salads and fruits, white for dairy and purple for allergens.

In this case it’s generally meant to mean that it’s unsafe to unplug the thing attached to it, as it would cause chaos - lost orders etc

Lost orders, missed safety alerts, and the manager missing tonight's episode of Celebrity Traitors

hydrogenoncrack@reddit
The grills will be on a commando socket since they will certainly pull over 13 amps, & will be either single or 3ph.
