I live in Norway the part about windmill is stupid, Norway is 99% powered by hydro but one year we had a drought and the situation was starting to look bad, then it rained. So building windmills is a great idea. The rest is spot on.
I was thinking something smaller and simpler. Regular cheese burgers. Just meat cheese and a bun. I’d make them for probably $9 with fries I believe that’s like 100 NOK. That’s all you need for a good burger. I’d sell local sodas. You know maybe I should do a food truck instead.
Out of interest, is it a tax issue, extraneous geopolitical issue or a fundamental failing of government (or a combination of 2 or 3). I guess what I'm saying is globally there's been a major downturn due to less faith in the dollar and speculative investment falling, and I was under the impression that Norway had much higher taxes to pay for socialist systems. Also here in the UK it has been a trend to inflate GDP via largescale importation of immigrants which has slowly led to disfunctioning infrastructure that can't cope with the numbers.
God I wish Harald Hardrada beat Harold Godwinson at Stamford Bridge. We could be conversing in a mutually intelligible language instead of the mutant son of broken French and archaic German that is the English language.
No country is without their own problems, but comparatively speaking, you guys are pretty much closest thing to utopia. Minus the chronic seasonal affective disorder. You can keep that shit.
Sunset for me now is at 4pm, on the darkest day of the year I get five hours of day light in total. I have a feeling this might have something to do with it? As it's a complete 180 from the summer when the sun barely dips under the horizon.
I don't need to worry about that though, I love the darkness and my normal all year around depression keeps me company (:
The crime rate in Norway has not really risen, it is just coming back to the same amount we had 20 years ago. Mostly because we stopped funding all the things that made the crime rate go down the last time.
Not commenting on that specific issue, but if you look around, you'll find that almost all of the governments you can find do a fair amount of irrational shit
Take away all of Norway's oil and gas and they still have a GDP per capita higher than Sweden or Germany. It provides plenty of value besides oil and gas.
Norway is the only country in the world that has actually properly prepared for oil and gas running out. Norway's sovereign wealth fund is now at over 2 trillion in value, 40 times higher than the country's government budget. At just 2.5% yield it can generate enough money to run the government without taxpayers pitching in a cent, and is 300% of the country's GDP. The massive US debt is 125% of the US's GDP and in the wealth fund Norway has the exact opposite but almost three times higher.
You can export electricity though - the North Sea Link for example is between UK and Norway and it's constantly used depending on which country has cheaper power at that time
Norway ranks 7th on the worldwide happiness index because it takes care of its people. Literally who gives a fuck about anything else? I wanna live in a county that takes care of it’s people, not it’s corporations

The Norwegian wealth tax seem pretty well designed. Low rate. No stupid exemptions. Simple design. Coupled.with an exit tax.
Also you doesn't seem to have any inheritance tax. Hardly a punishing tax regime.
Alfred_Leonhart@reddit
No inheritance tax? Fuck it I’m moving to Norway. My kids are keeping what I give them.

I'd much prefer hashbrownes.
Alfred_Leonhart@reddit
You can get them on the side. Fries and Hash are both made from potatoes at the end of the day.
Standard_Age5673@reddit
I know. It's just that I've never found it in Norway. We're good on the burger front, really.
Alfred_Leonhart@reddit
Is there a lot of Americana burger joints in Norway?
Standard_Age5673@reddit
Yes. "Texas-style" BBQ jalapeno-cheddar double decker with chips and coleslaw.
Though it seems burgers are out of fashion at the moment.
