Food service driver here. Yes, I look young but I feel old and my favorite multivitamin is ibuprofen and Tylenol lol
Blazephamy@reddit
What company is this ? Is it Sysco ??
derpmcturd@reddit
Did this for 3 years, my body can still remember the pain.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
I love it especially on the weeks I drive out and have to unload 6-7k by myself. I just throw in my ear pods and go to town. My record to this day (and nobody has me beat yet, unloading solo) is unloading a 5200lb stop in an hour and five minutes. A 3000lb stop on average takes 40-45 minutes solo.
ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices@reddit
How organized is the warehouse i worked for gordon. And i was quick.. but i coulsnt deam of that pace with the sorting
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It’s pretty tight and so are other warehouse from other drivers I’ve talked to around the country. We very rarely have to dig for a case. And if it takes me more than 30 seconds to look for it, I just credit it, bring it back to the warehouse and move on to my next stop.
ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices@reddit
Ok so yeah. Thats why. Ive digged from top front to bottom back for ONE case. Eats up hours
SHmmove_Operator@reddit
I work for US Foods and that’s the biggest issue is digging, one case of something is always in bottom left corner . I wish they’d do better
bored_apeman@reddit
Name the company
CND1983Huh@reddit
They did
Sharp_Requirement_50@reddit
Which location did you work at
pattop@reddit
No clue how your job works. Are you just unloading pallets from a to b? Or is it also stacking shit on the pallets? Or something else entirely. I load cars. Pretty straightforward. Takes about 1 1/2 hr.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Nothing is on pallets and we load dolly’s and run up and down the ramp all night and day. Stack em heavy, run it fast and never look at the weights is how we work.
UhOhAllWillyNilly@reddit
Wait, what? Don’t you want to put the heavy stuff at the bottom on the dolly??
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
What I meant to say was we don’t like a how much weight each stop gets. We just see what we have for a total product weight that we have to lump and the rest unfolds in its own throughout the night. But to answer your question yes we do.
mistman23@reddit
Over-working is not a flex.
I have a 61 year old friend and co-worker that's literally about to die from heavy over working that exacerbated pre-existing health conditions. He won't stop because identity is tied so strongly to working. Will be surprised if he makes it 6 more months
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
I’m sorry hear and definitely not flexing. I almost always only work my set routes 50 hours on average, most has been 53 hours a couple times a week bc we went out heavy. I don’t really pick up extra work but I do when it’s too good an offer to pass up.
theused5703@reddit
What…? Who the hell do you work for? 😂 that’s insanity.
I take out 30,000lb loads by myself and drive 150 miles and unload the trailer in 8 hours. What kind of food service pays this much to unload 7,000lb trailers? 😂
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
No no no lol. That’s just an example of what I have to unload until my partner wakes up and comes on duty. We go out anywhere from 34-40k on our routes.
SubzeroWins1-0@reddit
Congrats man. Those 50-100lb frozen boxes are no joke I remember putting 10 plus boxes of subway bread on one cart just to save time.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Yeah they suck for sure. Ten side by side and two on top crossed to “keep it from splitting” and hope to god it holds until I get into the store to drop it off lol
Cherkovsky@reddit
Do customers ever have to check in every individual item and take count? That's actually what made me leave soda hauling. Customer spent an hour checking me in and then accidentally deleted the entire history. I still had like 6 stops left that day too.
brokedasherboi@reddit
Currently doing soda, that's absolutely the worst part of it. The physical part isn't that bad but standing around wasting time waiting on a manager hurts my soul🤣
jmzstl@reddit
Subway was one of my favorite stops because the boxes were so stackable. Turn the bread boxes sideways and stack them 2 wide halfway up the dolly. Same thing with the produce.
Secure_Low_6621@reddit
I was making that up until a month ago. 70+ hour weeks hauling fuel. I switched to 4 on 4 off (not by choice) and average 50 hours a week now. Didn’t realize how exhausted I was. Miss the paycheques though.
Vanessa_D_good@reddit
How much were you making during Covid.
bentstrider83@reddit
Even at two weeks I barely scratch this. But you earn every cent nonetheless.
cahasi_25@reddit
Not a flex.

Nah

I wanna know too. I’m ready to move. Work at performance only pulling 1400 a week doing vacation relief. I’ve really started to despise the Sonic and Schlotzskys logos now.
Actual_Economics_928@reddit
is that sysco
GoldWoodpecker_97@reddit
Are you an owner op? Food service like what McDonald’s?
CapOld9053@reddit
Teams at mclane run nonstop don’t they? As in they both work even tho one is supposed to be in the sleeper?
HerburtThePervert@reddit
It’s an unwritten reality. Your co-driver wouldn’t appreciate busting his ass while you’re sleeping or trying to in a loud ass truck in sketchy locations. I respect all who do this job but it’s a huge no for me. Too dangerous to risk your life and others while driving exhausted. A lot of the job is in tight urban areas to top it off.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It’s a great way to lose your job. I’m sure there’s teams that run it that way and other teams who run it the right way. It’s all about staying safe IMO. Driving sleepy is no joke especially when you have a 3+ hour ride back to the yard and having to work a 20+ hour route.
Obvious-Tear-9351@reddit
That's some really good money, bro! Keep going! Get it while you're young and able! I never hauled groceries, but I was a beer man for Bud, and running those cases is tough on the body over time. Got out after 3 years and have been hauling fuel for the last 21 years. You make excellent money, stack up!
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It’s defiantly a young mans game but I’m in it for the long run or until my knees give out lol. If I take a night off then I feel like an old rusty engine trying to start back up on my next route and I hate that feeling. But at three nights a week with three consecutive days off, it doesn’t make sense to call out for one shift. Wish you the best and stay safe. Fuel hauling ain’t a joke you guys and gals definitely put yourself on the line to haul a bomb, literally.
Ok-Location-9544@reddit
Dam brother, must be killing it with those numbers. So you get paid bi weekly?
Are you unloading a 53 ft reefer / dry van with a partner? What is your home time like? Are the boxes all different sizes.
I just tried out a route for a retail store, had 4 stops almost 2000 boxes. Mostly with a dolly or roll tracks where you’d slide the boxes to the associates in the store. It was an extra $150 for the 1 trailer and $15 per stop. First manager showed up 2 hours late, killed the rest of the day and the other stores were upset at me. Needles to say, I’m sticking with drop and hook for now lol.
Critical_Dollar@reddit
You’re living the life man. What company? Or are you o/o
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It really depends on how you interpret it. And w2. It’s been mentioned already. My daughter goes to school with the kids of some major country artists and I’ve told each of them the same thing. They laughed and followed up with what I just said. It all comes down to what you value in life and how hard you’re willing to work and sacrifice for what you have. And for me, I’m not comparing myself to anyone else. only to who I was yesterday. But thank you I appreciate that kind words. Wish you the best and stay safe.

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Don’t be. I live in the wealthiest part of the state yet I feel poor lol. All the houses around me are 600k+ including ours so if I can make close mortgage for one week I’m a happy man not to include what my wife’s brings home. “Comparison is the thief of joy”.
cleevethagreat@reddit
This has to be Sysco.
Dapper-Ad9745@reddit
Naw it’s Mclane. Not everyone takes home that much money. Especially the newer guys.
zacharyDM95@reddit
How??
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Rest, eating healthy, working hard to be picked up by a senior guy and sniffing salts to get me ready to stack heavy and fly down the ramp. Rinse and repeat lol I use these sniffing salts when I workout at home also. It’s my little cheat code to pumping shit off the truck. I keep one in my truck and in my lunch bag for those extra routes I ride with someone else.

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Already have them. No more for us just the ones I dump on my wife lol. Joking. From here on out it’s just fur babies and raising the ones we already have.
WhoGotDaKeys2MaBeema@reddit
I've seen similar. You contracted?
Jaguer39@reddit
More power to you for that one. I haul fuel local. Standing outside in the winter is shit but you definitely put way more work in. Stay in shape that way too.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It sucks for sure but once you start moving you start to sweat regardless of how cold it is outside. I usually wear shorts until the snow starts flying then I’ll start wearing pants. On those really cold nights I’ll hangout in the freezer for a bit bc it’s warmer in there than ambient temp lol. I eat like a horse but still have a hard time putting on weight.
Jaguer39@reddit
That's all you man 😂😂 the heaviest im moving are the hoses. I definitely try to make room when you guys are in the gas stations with us.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Haha thanks for that. But props to you for driving around a bomb, that’s no joke. Some guys I’ve ran with when working extra don’t read they lay of the land. Aka they park over the filling covers (sorry idk the technical name). I’m at least courteous and park on the opposite side if possible.
Jaguer39@reddit
Yeah the beverage guys make me wanna throw hands some times but we're all just doing our job out here. And the way I look at it is if im gonna blow up, im just hoping its real real quick. The money is there so its an easier pill to swallow. Should finish somewhere around 140k to 145k
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
You definitely won in my book. I “should” be close to 150 but I’ll settle for 145k. You saved your body and only have to move a hose like you previously stated. And yes those beverage guys are something else lol

Yea makes sense. I share a yard with some food service guys down here in florida and 11 to 1500 is about what they’re getting weekly. You mentioned your running teams, so do i but im only at 13-15 a week😂 4 nights out
spyder7723@reddit
What sorry ass company is that? Even Cheney bros here in southwest Florida drivers are averaging 2200 a week.

oasuke@reddit
Did solo extra board with McLane in GA. 20+ stops 16hr days. My pay wasn't anywhere remotely close to this. In fact it was so low I quit after 2 months. It was closer to $1500 gross. My pay would've 80k, definitely not the $180k+ youre advertising. The only way it would be possible to make that kind of money down here is if you did OTR with McLane. Basically you travel to terminals that need help and stay there for a few months. Not a chance in fucking hell a regular guy is pulling those numbers though.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
How did you manage to do 16 hours days solo? You can only drive 11 and work 3 for a total of 14 hours.
oasuke@reddit
I used adverse conditions/16hr exemption and sometimes just used PC to finish that last hour.(illegal) company didn't care as long as route was completed
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Yeah if we do that we get walked out. But if your company was willing to look past it then no harm no foul. Some guys cheat but we’re always getting safety checked bc they think we work illegal. We once covered what was supposed to be a 26 hour load and got it done in just over 21 hours. No trainee, still did it by the book, got safety checked, it was after our three loads were done for the week and it was during a snow storm… It sucked and it was also my week to drive out fml lol
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
I heard of that program and no I don’t travel from division to division like they do. This is considered regional OTR but more like regional local with one long route. I’m home daily and sleep in my own bed except for one night a week where I have a long route. Being partners with a senior driver definitely helps like with any company you work for bc gravy bids.
Salt-Fee-9543@reddit
My calculations if your working 70 hr work week your hourly bring home is about 32hr. You’re busting your ass like a dock worker and on the road working 70 hrs a week. The paycheck might look good but fuck that. I’m 7-3 Monday-Friday at $32 hr hazmat. I pull a hose 20 times a day. Easy work
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
I’m working 50-53 hours a week without picking up extra work. It all depends on how heavy we go out. So for easy math $2500/53=$47.17. Those 7k pay periods are running an extra route. 3500/65=$53.84
Salt-Fee-9543@reddit
Calling bs on 50-53 hrs week. There would be line out the door making $45 hr.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
And there usually is but it’s hard work and most only last a year before they quit. Whether it be the hours, not being picked up bc of their work ethic etc. All I’m saying is it helps being partners with a senior driver.
Salt-Fee-9543@reddit
Are you team driving? That’s the difference
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Team driver, yes. Already answered previously. Northeast considered regional OTR. But 2/3 routes are short with only one long route and running three loads weekly to make just over $2500+ weekly.
ShoddySpace5680@reddit
Sysco?
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
No and it’s not pfg either. I prefer not to say. But you can make six figures running ramp and it’s honest work. If you’re on TikTok you can follow TheTravelingTrucker and he speaks nothing but the truth. Those 5k pay periods are only working three nights a week about 50-53 hours. The seventh in running an extra route a week.
Mannys951@reddit
It's ok champ Mclane pays solid.. 💪
Teamster508@reddit
No weekly is this with taxes out ?
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Biweekly pay, gross (bottom number) and take home/net (top number). Benefits are cheap but don’t need them and most of what gets taken out goes into my 401k and taxes. My wife works for the state so free benefits and she dumps almost half her pay into her 401k. I’m trying to retire when I’m 60. Like I said -I look young but I feel old lol
Logical-Evening-359@reddit
I’m 28 in food service my body’s about 50 lmao you get paid by the case?
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Yes. Miles, stops and hours as well
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
Congrats, you make what a fuel hauler makes in a week. I remember my first cdl job.
Great_Bambi@reddit
What fuel haul company is paying like that?? Sure as shit isn't who I'm working for.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
Small mom and pops that own there own fuel and oil that you probably also haul if youre in the southeast. Were not a carrier like other truck companies.
Great_Bambi@reddit
I'm in NC and it's pitiful what I get unless I run like a rented mule and even then, it's nothing like what OP posted.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
SFT in north augusta, sc and savannah, ga. We'll be hiring the spring as usual.
Wreckit727@reddit
A fuel hauler makes 4-7k a week? Damn I thought I had hear it all…
Little-Trucker@reddit
Look at the dates. Payout is every 14 days
Wreckit727@reddit
Yeah I know it’s biweekly, but mrmoto said “you make what a fuel hauler makes in a week”.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
I average around 3k a week.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
I got weekly paystubs for proof son
Beginning_Ratio8422@reddit
Yeahhhhh I don’t believe that either
Wreckit727@reddit
Yeah unless I misunderstood his comment for “you make the same as a fuel hauler” which is more believable.
Worried-Course4380@reddit
Yeah I don’t think so. I make right at 100K hauling fuel and have been hauling fuel specifically for 3 years. Those figures are absolutely incorrect for fuel hauling unless you are an owner op.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
Let me break it down. We make 35% a load. Saturdays are a extra $200. Sundays are a extra $200. A 6th day is an extra $300. I average anywhere from 7-900 additional in add ons a week for double hoses, Splits, delay time is paid immediately upon the arrival at the rack so I get paid for every single dime of my time. This past week I did $1689 in load pay. $795 in add ons. $400 in weekend bonus. $300 in 6th day bonus. Little over 3k a week. Gross average is around 27-3200 a week. T hats a 6 day week pulling one load from north Augusta, sc back to savannah ga.
Around 52 hours on duty total.
You have a terrible fuel company if youre only pulling 100k and breaking 60 hrs a week.
Worried-Course4380@reddit
Only pulling a 100K? You can’t comment only if that’s the kind of money you’re making in your local market. Those kind of numbers do NOT exist in my area. I’ve been driving almost 10 years. You’re comparing apples to oranges.
MrMotoSynthesis@reddit
Thats the only bad part about fuel. The market is great somewhere but shit another.
Sledge1989@reddit
Respect. I did that at mclane foodservice for six months. Got the fuck out and into gas, I’d rather be homeless than go back lol
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
😂 did you make more there or do you make more now hauling fuel? Genuinely curious
Sledge1989@reddit
I went from around 2K a week working the extra board on dog shit routes down to 1800 with fuel. I’ve changed companies a couple times for better pay and benefits, currently making around 2300 a week (that’s five day work week at 32.50, if I work a six it’s around 2800)
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
That’s actually good and you’re smart for saving your body. Running ramp all night is physically as it is mentally tough. My longest route, I consider it the endurance race where I really have to prepare myself for 40k of product, 22 stops, 700+ miles and 22hours of no sleep (only on the weeks I drive out). EB is tough work but it’s your time to shine in hopes you get picked up by a senior driver.
Sledge1989@reddit
I live in Memphis so it’s pretty good compensation for this part of the country. I was typically doing shit locals. 9-12 stops a night with around 38K of product, all unloaded by hand with a dolly on the ramp. It was intense and the shitty fast food employees didn’t make it any better. My last day I came in two hours early to get ahead of my route and make time. Waited four hours for my trailer, every stop was late, manager immediately chews me out when I got back. He didn’t care the trailer was two hours late, said I needed to just work faster and make it up. Best decision I ever made, fuck mclane
confusedbystupidity@reddit
Hast to be hazmat
taco_2325@reddit (OP)

confusedbystupidity@reddit

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Food only. It’s component pay so cases, miles, stops and hourly pay which isn’t much.
confusedbystupidity@reddit
Oh you're touch freight...
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
If I have to touch a case more than once I’m already losing money 😂
confusedbystupidity@reddit

Dry and reefer products. Anytime from soups to hotdogs and snickers bars lol

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
No w2
lschipo21@reddit
I used to drive teams and we had to be out 6 days to see those kind of numbers
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Yeah OTR doesn’t pay much for the sacrifice you have to make. This is only three nights a week with an occasional fourth if I’m feeling ambitious which isn’t always lol
R34CTz@reddit
Im starting at a food service company on the 17th. $30.60/hrs. M-F..overtime after 8hrs per day.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
That’s good! Make sure to get your rest, easy healthy, hydrate and take some time to mentally prepare yourself for your routes. I have a routine that I follow regardless if I’m driving out or not. It’s hard work but it’s rewarding and honest work. Best of luck in your journey and remember it gets easier as time goes on.
Sir-Nicholas@reddit

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
It’s delay pay but it’s pennies like $10/hour pennies.
Imaginary-Village839@reddit
As someone that loves long distance driving and is in tbe process of getting cdl Any suggestions ?

taco_2325@reddit (OP)
That’s awesome to hear and wish you the best! My longest route is 700 miles. I don’t really care much about the driving. I just love lumping the freight. Get into food service but see what companies in your area pays the most. Go to a few interviews if you have to and don’t settle. The balls in your court. If you go into food service just know it’s hard at first but it gets easier as time goes on. Don’t be afraid to work hard and get noticed and get picked up by a senior driver. And even then keep on moving fast. Get your rest and don’t drive drowsy. It’s all about staying safe and doing things right. Be friendly with your customers and management and the rest is history. Again I wish you the best and get that license!
MD_keh@reddit

No but I hear they pay competitively but they run four to five nights a week working the same amount of hours.
GhostRz@reddit
Question: is that your take home or does it get split??
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Take home for myself. My partner and I both make the same. Example one of our routes pays $1200ish component pay. So we both get that each it’s not split between both drivers.
BitEnvironmental4872@reddit
Damn what company paying like this fam?
Heather_Val@reddit
Is this running teams seven days a week?
I make about 2/3 of that running trips out for 4 to 5 days a week.
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
Teams yes but only three nights a week

As someone who used to work for a produce delivering company and have done beer/keg routes, making no where near that, the companies I worked for paid Pennies in comparison but I salute you, depending on the stores and how close you can get, some rough days 🫡
Now? We make roughly the same and I’m home daily and just back beside silos/hookups and hook up a long hose and turn the pto on and watch gauges, but I’m out here 6 days a week getting shit done trying to do as much as I can, we’re hiring 😉
No ibuprofen or Tylenol needed what I’m doing nowadays, just some Ghost, water and more or less try not to get deaf and or bored sitting beside this loud ass pto blower 😂😂
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
That’s good to hear you found your fit. Best of luck and stay safe and keep getting paid! 👊🏼
DeathxEnabled@reddit
Yessir, respect to you for keeping with it, I used to unload 2-3k by myself and it definitely went unappreciated. Definitely got lucky with the place I’m at now. Stay shiny side up driver, good luck! 🫡

I used to work food service I’m also young 25 I hope your saving your money I know it’s expensive to live. I’m otr not saving 62k sleeping in my truck I get paid a lot least then I did with food service. I wouldn’t be able to save that working food service
taco_2325@reddit (OP)
I have you beat by ten years. lol. All I do is save but then there’s my wife who spends and takes care of the house and kids. I see a lot of new hires come in buy a new vehicles and then they’re basically a slave. I choose when I want to work extra which isn’t always as you can see. Some weeks I’m lazy and only want to do my routes and be home for the rest of the time 😂
rememberleapinglanny@reddit
