Commuting to London cost

Hi,
For those who commute to London once/twice a week, how much does a return trip cost you?
Do you use any rail card etc?
I (28, M) will be moving to Milton keynes soon and will be going to the office every Tuesday.
Thanks

Peak time in the morning and off peak return, 42 with Railcard. When I can have a change to arrive after 10AM at Euston I use travel card, 21.70 including Tube, Bus, etc

I commute two to three times a week. Have a network rail card and it cost me £42 per day (goes down to £17 if you travel in after 10am). I book my tickets through Uber, you get 5% back to use off future tickets. You can sign up to Uber One for £4.99 per month and get 10% back as well.

This is by far the best option for people that commute 3 times a week, and still also works out cheaper than a season ticket for 4 days a week once you factor in annual leave, sick time, bank holidays, etc.
If/when Uber stop the cashback offer, it's worth keeping an eye out on cashback offers through the likes of Monzo and AMEX, as they've previously offered cashback on rail services. A few months back AMEX offered 10% off bookings via LNER, which could be used on any national service.
Finally if you're a Monzo plus customer, you can get a Railcard and Uber One subscription as part of your membership, which is better value alone than buying these separately.

Thank you for this advice.

I have a network railcard looks like it’s gone up to £35 but saved about £700 last year.
Travel from centre MK to Euston and found it best to buy single tickets.

£42 with a Network Railcard. Buy an anytime day single in the morning and, to come home, an off peak day single using the railcard.

Hi, does this mean you travel peak time in the morning?

If you want to get to your London destination before 10am you’ll be on the peak trains. They are very busy but luckily they are only a 36min journey to Euston.

Yes

I usually do an Anytime Day Travelcard for £62.99. That’s from Bletchley. Might be a touch more from MK Central. Parking is £7 per day at Bletchley train station, loads of spaces. I’m fortunate that work pay for my travel when I go a few times a month.

Always wondered what was the point of Travelcard for commuting, it is about £11 more but 2x central London tube journeys is like £6-7?
LiE85@reddit
Since work pay I have to book through their website and it’s just easier. If I was paying I’d definitely be looking for the best way to save a few.
mntCleverest@reddit
I thought it was about £6 more but even then only really makes sense if you take at least 3 tube/bus rides. Oh maybe you are talking about peak time and im talking about off peak
JamieTimee@reddit
Your work is getting robbed. £63 for a return to London is ridiculous
LiE85@reddit
You think that’s bad. I had to go to the Manchester office in peak times, £250 return!

Same price from CMK as I take an anytime day travel card also to Ldn - luckily I don’t pay for it myself as it’s an insane amount!

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to drive to Stanmore, park for £10 and take the jubilee line?

My girlfriend used to thravel thrice a week to Heathrow Airport until we got a car. Her route was to Euston and then tube to kings cross and then to T2. It used to cost £450-600 depending on the ticket prices and this is including a 16-25 railcard. I don't know how much of a help this would be but yeah it can get quite expensive.

I get Milton Keynes to Euston 3 times a week. I have a 26 -30 railcard. Getting train in morning is peak times and then in the evening before 7 the return is £33. Annoying one for me is parking at the station is £10 a day which is a pain. A few places a bit further away are cheaper but personally rather pay to be a bit closer so less of a walk in the dark

I go twice a week but I catch the first off-peak train so it is £25-26 for any permitted train return.
