The enclosed frenzy dots Vector makes are by far my favorite dot ive ever shot. Have 3 of them on 3 different pistols now. Would love to get a more long range type scope but no clue where to even begin
AnEffortIsBeingMade@reddit
Athlon Ares ETR 3-18. They're the older gen so they're harder to find new but it looks like MKMachining has the MOA version for $685.
18x is enough magnification to get you to a mile. If you want more get more, but the more you shoot the more you'll find that with magnification, you want "as much as necessary but as little as possible". 18x is even enough for reliable target ID at 1,000yds so if your idea of long range is 1k then 18x will be plenty no matter what kind of 1k you're shooting.
risengrind19@reddit
Thats great information. Would you say 15x would be quite a step up from 10x? Im not planning on shooting 1k with 5.56 but would like something with a little more magnification I guess.
AnEffortIsBeingMade@reddit
Yes, you'll see a big difference stepping up from 10x to 15x. It won't quite be a 50% difference like you might think but it'll be very obvious.
One of the biggest advantages to going slightly over what you think you'll need when buying a budget scope is that essentially no budget scope ever made is as clear at max magnification as it is at mid magnification. If you buy a 15x you may find it clear to 12x-14x but somewhere near the top end you'll notice a drop off in quality. All budget scopes do that, and that includes scopes this sub considers high end, like Vortex Razor or Athlon Cronus. You want clarity all the pay, you gotta pay March/ZCO/Swarovski prices.
So if you want 15x for sure, look to 16x or 18x top ends so you can back off a tiny bit to get that maximum clarity.

They sent me a Frenzy to review and I'm still in the midst but it seems better than amazon or gideon. I like the huge window, and what all it comes with for tools and accessories is cool. No battery is kinda annoying but not like I don't have a million extra batteries for optics.
dizzledizzle98@reddit
r/longrange has a good scope guide in the info section
DillyJamba@reddit
Is this a step up from Amazon junk even? How disappointed would I be with this coming from an Arken?
MDData@reddit
I have no experience with any of their shit other than the 2-12 continental and 3-18 continental. I am absolutely conflicted with how much I like them. I don't even want to say what I honestly think after a few months of ownership because people would jump on me and in the past I would definitely have been one of them. What I will say is that in terms of value for dollar, those 2 optics are probably one of the best things out there right now. I still grab my march 1.5-15x over either of them, but that's predominantly a size and weight + clipon compatibility thing for me, and it also cost about 2700 more than either of the continentals lol. As someone who usually has different taste and priorities in optics than u/C_does, even with our differing perspectives I couldn't find anything he said in his reviews of them that I disagreed with at all and they're a great resource.
Hipoop69@reddit
What reticle does your 3-18 have? Do you mind sharing pictures?
MDData@reddit
I think its called the SCFF-40, it has the rapid ranging brackets plus tree. I can try to snap some with my phone this afternoon but I don't have any fancy brackets or scope cams etc so bear with me for the quality.
Hipoop69@reddit
That would be awesome! Thank you!
risengrind19@reddit
This is the OEM manufacturer for Vortex, swampfox and a few others. Far better than some random Amazon optic
Trope360@reddit
Please provide any sort of proof of this. I've seen a couple claims to this here, but proof is always "well I heard" and ya know how easy it is to create a couple fake alts and post that here?
Holosun is the OEM for Sig red dots, this is easy to confirm looking at the models that are identical as that's typically how chinese OEMs work - they change a design minimally under multiple brand names and bang them out. I'm not seeing the "this looks very much like a Defender XL with same features" that still wouldn't be proof they weren't just knockoffs but at least would connect the dots a hair more than "I heard"
MDData@reddit
So they aren't actually an OEM at all, the OEM for vector, bushnell, vortex etc is a company called Miao Optical. They produce a lot of other products outside the scope world so I don't think this is a very large sector of their business.
risengrind19@reddit
Guess I dont have solid proof for you and certainly am not an "alt" account, go look at my post history ive been on here forever. Regardless they make some good stuff. Ive put my frenzys through some serious hell to see if itd be an optic I'd trust to CC with and it never lost zero nor broke. The long range scopes ive heard from some people are also great. If they actually arent OEM for anyone then oh well.
oxymo@reddit
Stick to continental scopes that you can find reviews for, 2-12x44, 1-6 fiber, they aren't bad for the cost. Great for a beater scope. The 2-12 is actually really nice although girthy, chonky even.
Silent-Wonder6546@reddit
These any good? Never heard of them before. Curious about getting a beater prism
oxymo@reddit
I picked up a continental 1-6 fiber and 2-12x44. Glass is very decent to good depending on your reference scope, slightly better than vortex viper and psa slx 1-6, build quality is ok. Turrets are nice. Not disappointed at all for the price, that discount code has always worked btw.
Haven't tried a prism, but did order one of the red dots with solar backup, it was horrible in the sun. Return was easy and they covered shipping and refund processed in a few days after delivery.
Psychological-Drive4@reddit
How much was the 2-12. That one seems like a winner
oxymo@reddit
I paid 466 otd, but I bundled some other items and it discounted it more, also only used a 13% code I found, later discovered the 20% off listed in the op has been around forever. Still happy with it. The mount they sell is not terrible either.

Thx

With that sunshade it looks like a grenade launcher on top. Very nice setup sir.
oxymo@reddit
She is chonky for sure, but again, can't complain for the price and build, 16" old ass DD and AWB ban lower. I worked up some reloads for this one years ago and it's a tack driver if I do my part.
Hardymon1@reddit (OP)
I'm going to find out in a few days, but https://youtu.be/4yI1WZrWNxA?si=nfJdRV7bRyCikvXL Seemed fairly encouraging
wlogan0402@reddit
I second papa in that the site is dog shit on mobile
joman8390@reddit
The coupon takes away the sale discount
xdoomsongx@reddit
Same issue for me.
Hardymon1@reddit (OP)
I used it last night and it took a ~$600 order to ~$500 order, both items I ordered were on sale when they went into the cart. 🤷🏻♂️
Gatecrasher@reddit
Prices went up by $40 across the board, not down. This is a bad deal.
Deeper__Thought@reddit
This is an everyday coupon fyi. Not any special sale price. Ive got the 1-8sfp and its got great glass, good turrets, magnification ring definitely seems like its a $300 scope though. Still, $300 vs $900 for a razor, id pick the Vector every time, and all of my other scopes are ZEISS so Ive got a lot of experience on quality optics
coryhoss1@reddit
Coupon worked for 3x paragon $110 dollars shipped
Shock-Broad@reddit
Yeah but I've got that optic and its ass.
coryhoss1@reddit
I’m gonna give it a shot on a shit build of random parts I’ve got.
I rather like their 4x model.
I generally like prisms and accept the compromises that come with them.
What didn’t you like about it
papa_squart@reddit
That website is loose ass on a phone. Too many pop up cookie verification email newsletter whatever. What a nightmare to navigate.
fooddudebob@reddit
Agreed everytime I clicked something it just took me to a chat window
pieceonthemic@reddit
Now if only the SCFF-69 reticle version of the Continental 2-12 would come back in stock…
LORDIGBICK@reddit
Mine is $$$ on a MI Qd mount, just don’t know what dot to piggyback it with
Hardymon1@reddit (OP)
I'm partial to the - 67, so good for me, but yeah, it would be good if that scu came back
