Hey r/GunDeals,
Taurus TX22 Stainless Steel FRT
CODE: WEBACK FOR 20% OFF, GOOD FOR THIS WEEKEND ONLY.
I didn't feel right posting threads when we had so many people waiting for an update with the TX22 FRTs, so I worked on that nonstop. It's now finished. Sorry for the long delay.
After months of diligent work to improve the plastic FRTs, there were some discoveries made regarding the Big Brrt file. The Big Brrt file's geometry results in extreme wear to the striker block of the TX22. Many people sell these in metal which results in extreme wear to the striker. Since then, there have been new designs put out there (Shout out ODD MFG & ROF Guy) which we have been testing and working on creating finishing processes.
Many sellers do not even take the time to deburr or tumble their FRTs... This is insane to expect the end user to finish them. It is pretty hard to do and requires significant time and investment in tools. If you don't finish them it will wear the shit out of your gun.
We have never worked with metal before, but after a month we dialed in our process:
Sand the spot where the laser starts and stops, resulting in a sharp tooth (need to update pic)
Tumble in ceramic media
Polish with steel pins
This results in a very smooth part that is drop in ready. It has a satin finish and requires 0 work from you, the end user. The disconnector pin slides in easily and does not bind -- the FRT spins freely.
I have tested about 500 rounds through this and while it does result in some wear to the striker block, it's not too much, and a light trigger finger will result in dramatically less wear.
I have reached out to everyone that had issues with their plastic FRTs, but if I somehow didn't get around to you, send us an email or a DM here on Reddit and I'll work to get you squared away.
I have 130 of these finished and ready to ship, with 200 more coming on the 10th. Will ship all of them Monday.
Thank you all again, if you have any questions please let me know.

Roadmap:
Some very kind Reddit users have agreed to send us their braces and we'll be working on them for the next couple weeks. Some of the products we'll be developing are:
- TX22 Ring-Style Charging Handle (CNC'd)
- TX22 Weighted Backplate (CNC'd)
- TX22 Weighted Optic Plate (CNC'd)
- TX22 Metal Striker Plate (CNC'd)
Unfortunately many of these products are weeks or months away. We didn't want to Metal 3D print these parts because most of them are either friction surfaces or interact with your hand, which having the sandy texture of SLM seems like a compromise. We are working with a local CNC shop to make these 100% in the USA. Thanks for your patience.
If you have an accessory (optics, braces, stocks, anything...) that you want a custom made solution for, please reach out either in DMs or on our website's contact page. We want to create as many products as possible.
We pay for shipping here and back, and you'll get whatever we make for it for free.

My 2 cents, your stainless is much harder than the slide material (likely 4140) id move to a softer material. Having the frt wear out is far better than having the slide wear out.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
The part that interfaces with the FRT is plastic, so unfortunately there’s nothing to be done about it short of replacing it with a 3d printed plastic striker plate or a metal one. The OEM disconnector is also metal, which wears on the striker plate as well.
some_kid6@reddit
There's a remix of the Sounding Rod on the odd sea by pembie000industries that uses an SCS metal reinforcement in a printed striker assembly. That should solve it without a bunch of fancy coatings.
MyRedditAccountSuckz@reddit
So if i haven't installed my printed frt is it safe or should I hold off because it will do damage?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Please see the edit at the top of the post
MyRedditAccountSuckz@reddit
I read it and I'm unsure of the answer still, are they good to use and they'll just fall apart because they're plastic or will they still damage the tx22 because they are big brrrt based designed even though they are 3d printed?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
They just don’t last long. They’re softer than the striker plate so it won’t damage your components. They’re fine to use.
MyRedditAccountSuckz@reddit
Uwu thanks daddy
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
My bad i didnt see there was a link in the comment. I do see the wear and that plate being plastic. I have a tx22 but havent put a frt on it (just wanted one before the price shot up which is very much did.) when i get home ill take mine apart and see if theres anything i can do.
Are you concerned about the plating being to expensive or making them out of metal? You could likely plate yourself with a variable power bank and solution.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
You can plate things at home but from what I was seeing the nice plating like boron nitride has some extremely toxic chemicals in the process, not so much like a simple nickel plating you’re doing in a tub with a power supply. I am no expert when it comes to plating or any of this, so I’m really just speculating that the plating would even do anything when realistically it might just do nothing. The real solution is oiling the FRT and using a post travel adjustable trigger.
I did try to molykote the FRTs but couldn’t get it to stick.
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
Damn, ya boron nitride isnt something id want to do at home, i was thinking maybe something else. What about a teflon coating? Im not sure what molykote is. What is the max thickness of the frt?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Molykote is a molybdenum disulfide coating, its pretty slick and used usually as a dry lube. Teflon is possible, I think the hardest part would be finding something that is able to withstand the constant friction without wearing away, even teflon will wear away. So it needs to be hard too.
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
So i looked into the design and how it works, along with some dimensions. The width is .08ish best bet would be a captive ball bearing on top. Pinched from front and behind but able to roll. Machining the striker block would be a PITA. The captive ball bearing would likely be the best way to pretty much eliminate wear.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Are you going to make this? Good idea
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
No go for it, i have so much on my plate i wont have time. Go make a great product and prosper.
KING_UDYR@reddit
Maybe crowd source a 1k unit run? I dunno I’m retarded.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
That’s a possibility, only issue is there’s no guarantee that’ll actually solve it, boron nitride is just a very slick plating. It could still wear it. One thing I want to do soon is give cerakote micro slick a shot, but I don’t have the tools yet.
tomrfitz86@reddit
Is this all that is required to frt the TX22 reliably or are there other parts needed? Thanks
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
For the most part this is it. If you want to suppress it you may need additional weight added to the slide but this is good to go out of the box on any stock tz22
ClandestineArms@reddit
Including the TX22 competition?
TXParkRanger@reddit
I had issues with it on my competition. I don't think there's enough slide mass
leemaverick@reddit
Same.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Yep pretty sure they all work. Haven’t had a report of anyone having issues.
tomrfitz86@reddit
Do you sell the additional weights for the slides? I have a suppressor to put on mine. Also, how long do these typically last. I heard when these first came out they were good for a few mags and something had to be replaced. Thanks again
ImDukeCaboom@reddit
Buddy used the stick on tire balance weights. Not the prettiest solution but seems to work well.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
We were originally selling plastic ones to reduce striker plate wear, but these metal ones will last forever basically. I don’t think it’s possible to wear it out.
HarietTubesock@reddit
Will this cause wear to any slide components ?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
It can cause wear but the Big BRRT design (most common) does a massive amount of damage. This design will cause wear but at a significantly lower rate. It’s yet to be seen if it does enough to actually break the gun but the designer of this one says he has 6000 rounds without failure.
King_Spitfire@reddit
You figure a bunch of tape behind the trigger would restrict how far back it can be pulled and that would cut down on wear even more?
nope_noway_@reddit
I’ve seen some people sell replacement metal inserts. Do you sell that to go with this so that it does not destroy the gun..?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
No, we’re working on it though. Most people sell SLM 3D printed ones. They’re not ideal, they’re like sandpaper. We are looking at getting some CNC’d but it’s costly and time consuming.
nope_noway_@reddit
Ah gotcha.. waiting on that to drop before going all in
HarietTubesock@reddit
Thank you for the response. Do you still stock the printed version? Figure it’s cheaper to replace the FRT than a slide or other component
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
We have decided to stop selling the printed version entirely because some people were getting 5 rounds and some people were getting 500 rounds before failure. I tried for a month to solve this issue but ultimately it’s unsolvable unless I buy like 20 TX22s to test with.
We may put some printed striker plates up for sale soon, but I need to do more testing since it’s such a critical component.
hellzraven7@reddit
I had a buddy tapped a lead fishing weight just to see if it helped. It does.
tomrfitz86@reddit
Thanks for the tip!
Prior-Champion65@reddit
Would a dot be enough weight?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Probably not, if it’s 1.5 to 2 oz maybe enough
ReallyQuiteDirty@reddit
My dumbass paid like $99 for a stainless FRT. Apparently I should have found yall. I'm annoyed and feel dumb.
Aegis-2@reddit
I bought one literally yesterday but I guess I’m in for one more with the coupon, love that you guys bring regulations to extreme prices others are charging
LevTheRed@reddit
How usable is the TX22 at a slow rate of fire with one of these in? I want one of these for mine, but I regularly go to two different ranges, one of which for some reason doesn't allow "rapid fire".
Blowback9@reddit
There is no slow rate of fire. It's all or nothing and the TX22 runs very fast with an FRT. Singles are essentially impossible at 1900 RPM. Even with weights/optics/etc. it doesn't slow down enough for that kind of control. If only slow fire is allowed, the only practical option is to load 1 round in the mag and use it like a single shot.
LevTheRed@reddit
Good to know. Thanks.
sfotex@reddit
In for one, why not?!
AcidKyle@reddit
In for one, now I actually need a tx22…
RebirthResurgence@reddit
Just adding this to add - all my homies hate freedom finger triggers for their scalping.
Better-Efficiency-12@reddit
Can you elaborate? Im ignorant
AnyProcess4064@reddit
A company that sells this for like $120.
Objective_Nature_497@reddit
Why you no ship to NV?
clicktoseemyfetishes@reddit
Idk much about these FRT designs but is there any chance there’ll be a selectable version in the future?
MemoFromTurner77@reddit
So the frts I bought 2 months ago from you are no good?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
I wish it would show my replies to this lol
OddPatient4260@reddit
Same question. I got the metal ones, but haven't gotten around to installing them after reading about the possible damage.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
We never sold metal ones, but if they look like the Big Brrrt file (Google it, can’t link. Use odysee) then that one is known to chew up slide components.
Soft_Door_2473@reddit
Will you ship to oregon?
Waste_Ad_7588@reddit
In for one and I don’t even have a tx22 yet
3D2ASupplies@reddit
Sweeeeet
ubettercall1@reddit
Have purchased from you before, plastic ones didn’t last long….I’ll give you and these a go. In for 4
DoctorVepr@reddit
This is a small piece of metal that should cost no more than $5-10 each as they cost probably less than a quarter to make. Cool to see them cheaper than fft but still scalping.
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Feel free to start selling them.
DoctorVepr@reddit
I’m good, I’ll just inform patriots about how there’s a whole community of 2a supporters with the same material selling them for half or less than what you are. ✌️
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Yeah getting these from SCS is not hard. But I’m not pulling them out of a bag and putting them into a shipping box, there’s days of processing I do and hand inspect these. That’s what you’re paying for. Plenty of people sell these either in the old design that’s going to destroy your striker plate, or they don’t deburr them properly, or they leave the laser cut mark… there’s a lot. You can’t trust every Joe in their garage. This is a fair price for good post processing work.
Fancy-Moment1438@reddit
There's scalping and there is running a business. Charging $28 shipped for anything is not scalping.
Is it more than cost? Yep. But that's what a business is. The guy you are replying to just sounds like a whiny bitch in my opinion.
FatCrackRock@reddit
Incredible how people will always find a way to bitch about something, dude is a clown.
Maximum-Ad2278@reddit
TacticalRN.com has these same ones for 29.95
risengrind19@reddit
Ill give these a go. The plastic ones I bought wouldnt even make it to 100 rounds before they broke. But ive bought other items from you so willing to give these new ones a try.
cyclorphan@reddit
I haven't even tried the 3d printed ones I bought yet, but this sounds like a decent deal so I'm going for it. Hopefully the stainless one works out as well in my TX22 as it appears.
Setakka@reddit
Have you been able to test the GSG drum mag conversion?
CicadaResearch@reddit (OP)
Yeah I tested it, the conversion piece works fine. Whether or not the drum mag itself is up to the task of keeping up with the tx22 is another story. I run HV ammo, so I think I need a rate reducer to get it to work reliably.
Setakka@reddit
Yeah, my drum runs well on my 10/22, but keeping up with brrrt seems optimistic. Am looking forwards to the cnc plate tho'
