Has anyone failed to get postage back from Debenhams despite items never being shipped?

So I placed an order for a chair from Debenhams marketplace, and for some reason was notified I was being refunded for the chair two days later. Which, whatever, I’ll order it elsewhere if they can’t ship it. The problem arose when they returned the price paid for the item but not the excess shipping I paid for it, despite it never being shipped. I can’t get anyone to reply on their customer service and I know it’s a small amount of money but if they’re doing it to everyone that orders they’re scamming thousands of people out of money left and right. Anyone else had this issues or have any advice on what to do? I’m really only chasing it out of pure stubbornness as it’s only £4.99 but I don’t like corporations thieving of their customers.

It's a straightforward chargeback

It isn’t because it was part of the rounded out payment for the chair. So say it appears I paid 204.99 for chair, they returned 200, so the card company has no way to know if the 4.99 was or wasn’t supposed to be returned if you get me?

The invoice will show extra delivery charges and the card company will see the discrepancy between the amount charged initially and the partial refund later on.

"so the card company has no way to know if the 4.99 was or wasn’t supposed to be returned if you get me"
You think the CC company doesn't know the Consumer Rights Act.
Ok-dokey.
What a loser!

Regardless a charge back is for if the company hasn't fulfilled its contract with you. If you never received the item, you're entitled to all money being returned, including postage because the contract was not fulfilled.

I totally agree with you. Most people get defrauded and ignore it because they think it is only a few pounds but we need to demand accountability and honesty. Principles count. I think Debenhans was sold off years ago. I dare not order from them nor would I ever again order anything from Tesco's Marketplace. They use dodgy drivers who are either incompetent or thieves, stealing from customers. They must refund you immediately. I would go on Trustpilot and make it clear that you have been taken advantage of. My parcel from Tesco's Marketplace was supposedly delivered by Evri courier. I intentionally stayed at home to have it hand delivered to me. Now I am at my desk working and suddenly there is an email saying that my parcel had been delivered. I went downstairs and checked my shed. Nothing. The time difference between the driver arriving at my place and me going to check was only a few minutes. The driver never rang the bell nor did he knock on my door. He had placed my unboxed item, wrapped in bubble wrap, on the floor of my shed and taken a photo as proof. I am almost 100% sure he stole my item as I have never had anything stolen from me before. And I contacted Evri and sent emails but no one called back or emailed me. I emailed and called the seller who told me they would refund me. A day later, this seller wrote me an email saying I needed to go on Tesco's Marketplace and file that I had received the item and request a return before they can issue my refund! I write back saying that I cannot falsely admit that I had received the item and asked them to be honest and transparent about this matter. Looks like scammers are everywhere. I will not order anything online from dodgy companies that use dodgy couriers. And what is happening to the UK? I get items delivered from the US and China without any issues.

Same thing for me too within the last few days. Item refunded their end due to no stock. Cost of item refunded but not the £4.99 postage they took. My thoughts were exactly the same as yours - how much money are they making out of this "scam". Their whatsApp contact method doesnt seem to be working when i try it & i'm not on faceBook to do Messenger (& i refuse to create an acct & then disable it just to have to contact them through that). Those are the only 2 ways to contact them.

I had to just keep trying to get them through WhatsApp and it eventually worked, but god knows how many people give up before actually getting to speak to someone. Won’t ever be buying from Debenhams again, cos they appear to have just turned into an AI controlled scam company.

The same thing happened to me and my friend. We both ordered goods had the payment taken then immediately cancelled. They only refunded the item cost excluding the delivery charge. They haven’t acknowledged my emails. How much money are they making with false sales!!!
