I'm pretty sure Gabe is just being a stubborn dickheas about it, and the more people who demand HL3, the more he resists. He even released a bullshit teaser several years ago just to rile people up. He claims he's waiting for some kind of cutting edge technology to make it worthwhile, but tons of people have literally died waiting for it.
Compared to the time HL2 released, stuff like XR, real time light rendering, streaming from storage with speeds in the Gigabytes and quad cores in even the crappiest machines would be a big jump
I think he means something that the game can actually demonstrate through gameplay, like how half life alyx was obviously in vr or how the most recent ratchet and clank game was made to showcase the speed of the ps5 through the portal
My current theory: They're waiting for good and affordable haptic suits to hit the market, and then sell HL3 with their own version that looks like the HEV suit.
While those games are prequels, Adam Jensen's story isn't wrapped up. There's a whole thing about him being a potential sleeper agent for the illumanti that's never resolved and a lot more
This made me want to punch a wall after getting it for free, avoiding spoilers everywhere before I finished it, absolutely loving it, finishing it and then finding out the series has been abandoned and devs bought out and disbanded. Heartbreaking. Such a sick game!
Thankfully they were only helping out a bit with the Avengers game (Crystal Dynamics AKA Tomb Raider reboot studio were the main devs for it) while their main project was the Guardians of the Galaxy game, which I hear is good and plan to eventually play.
It's still really good. Played it recently and it's one of the few stealth games I enjoy. Just wish the studio wasn't forced to cut the game in two. It's one of the few series that did conspiracy storylines well (Only other one I can think of is the Hitman trilogy).
Once upon a time there was a snake named Nate who lived in the woods. There was a road which wound through the woods. Nate liked to lie because it caught the sun and warmed his bones. Very near this road in these woods there was a tree -- special tree. It was special because on the side of the tree there was a lever -- and if the lever were pushed, then the world would end.
One day Granny was driving through the woods in her jalopy. Granny was a tendered-hearted soul who would never hurt a fly. As usual, Nate was lying on the road, sunning himself. As Granny came along, she didn't see Nate at first. Then, when she did see him, it was almost too late. She swerved to to avoid hitting him. When she swerved, she lost control of her jalopy and she crashed into a tree -- the special tree with the lever ... and the lever got pushed ... and the world ended.
I JUST started a new playthrough of that series. I haven't played them since the mid-2000s. They're stupid fun. All the way through, just a fuckin good time.
I played VJ2 so many times that True Heroes is permanently seared into part of my "Songs I remember randomly and get stuck in my head for a few days" memory catalogue.
I think Wonderful 101 was supposed to be some sort of spiritual successor to the viewtiful Joe series. The same guy directs them both. But... Wonderful 101 is complete ass compared to my beloved viewtiful Joe.
what denial? that we probably (highly likely) will not see the continuation of Titanalls story? Nah trust me we know (Titanfall 3 will always exist in my heart). Apex is basically just another game set in the same universe (as far as I know) but thats it.
honestly metal gear has grown on me with time since I bought the first "half" of the series with the switch collection. Yeah, it does suck we never got to experience the last days of venom fighting off and losing to solid snake after he shot him with several RPGs before escaping out heaven.
Darkest of Days. You play as a member of a time traveling agency who unlucky the mistakes of other time travelers. All of the agents are people with various experience who were meant to die in big events, like how you were a Union soldier at the Battle of Little Bighorn who went MIA, or your mentor was a firefighter at 9/11.
Game ends with the final level being the destruction of Ponpeii, and you're having to gun down Roman soldiers and a hostile time traveling faction while Mount Vesuvius is popping off.
There was supposed to be another game but I think it didn't end up selling well and the studio shut down?
Oh and another one was Freedom Fighters on the PS2.
Nah, that was more of an "open for interpretation" type ending where we don't know the specifics but we know Jesse will just go back to normal life without any world ending crises happening.
I'd love a Season 3 but Season 2 ended pretty satisfyingly all things considered.

I'm someone deeply invested in the A Song of Ice and Fire series checking George's blog on a weekly basis for news. Though to be fair, I'd rather take the limbo than an unsatisfactory ending. At least if it's unfinished you can speculate and have fun with it that way.
Shenmue 2 was tough, but they completely obviously should have concluded the story with Shenmue 3. Ending 3 on a cliffhanger was just unbelievable stupid.
So codemasters didn’t shut down, but they made overlord 1 and 2 and some other spinoffs I think, and then finally came back with the fellowship of evil which was so completely and utterly shit that no one wants to risk doing anything with the overlord IP anymore.
Tbh bro that game was so ass compared to the previous 3, I barely consider it canon especially since sly is literally gets his happy ending in the third game.
Republic Commando was such a banger, huge part of my childhood, and then they immediately canceled the sequel. The only continuation it had were like 5 books.
the thing that sucks about days gone is that theres still some story left to tell but apparently either Sony doesn't want to greenlight a sequel, or there was never going to be one in the first place even though they kind of allude to the fact that N.E.R.O is employing people who've been cured of the virus. Honestly hoping that if we ever do get a sequel to it the game ends similarly to how "I am legend" was meant to end back in 2008 with deacon, his wife, and best friend finding a cure to the virus in some N.E.R.O compound before distributing it from safe heaven, Concluding the story.
Trepang2, the ending itself wasn't bad or anything but it still hurts because they decided to stop making DLC and their next game isn't going to be Trepang. I hope they make a full on horror game, the atmosphere and tension on some of the levels is better than ton of straight up horror games.
Can't think of a game that ended like that, but my heart is forever a little bit broken because Cubical Drift went under, and Stellar Overload never got finished. My dad backed it on kickstarter over a decade ago and I got to playtest the game all the way from pre-alpha. I miss you so much, Cubical Drift; I wish you guys had finished that game.
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually agree with the poster completely. I imagine the shit out of endings all of the time, and sometimes deliberately don't finish things because the resolution in my big juicy voluptuous pulsating brain is just better than anything a writer can produce.

No he has stated very reasonable reasons as to why. The biggest being he didn't want to make a game just to sell it.

Yeah, my friend gordon played this game and its sequel... Shame there isn't a third chapter

Shenmue 2. Then later Shenmue 3. And if we ever get Shenmue 4 which is not going to happen it will also end on a cliffhanger.
VoDoka@reddit
Shenmue 2 was tough, but they completely obviously should have concluded the story with Shenmue 3. Ending 3 on a cliffhanger was just unbelievable stupid.
AbanaClara@reddit
Not surprised. The game looks unbelievably stupid as well

Dead Space.
Half Life, somehow has had their company booming for the past 20 years and STILL nothing.
Mirrors Edge.

Days Gone. Bend isn’t dead but they’re hanging by a thread.
trex48144@reddit
the thing that sucks about days gone is that theres still some story left to tell but apparently either Sony doesn't want to greenlight a sequel, or there was never going to be one in the first place even though they kind of allude to the fact that N.E.R.O is employing people who've been cured of the virus. Honestly hoping that if we ever do get a sequel to it the game ends similarly to how "I am legend" was meant to end back in 2008 with deacon, his wife, and best friend finding a cure to the virus in some N.E.R.O compound before distributing it from safe heaven, Concluding the story.

Fuck any game that ends in a cliffhanger. This ain’t some 3 part trilogy shit.
Each piece should stand alone but be buildable on
H00ston@reddit
Trepang2, the ending itself wasn't bad or anything but it still hurts because they decided to stop making DLC and their next game isn't going to be Trepang. I hope they make a full on horror game, the atmosphere and tension on some of the levels is better than ton of straight up horror games.

Golden sun dark dawn. Not as incredible as the first two GS games, but still a really good rpg that deserved an end to its story.
Camelot hasn't even been shut down, Nintendo has just forced them to make Mario tennis games for like 15 years. Who the fuck is playing Mario tennis?
PlonixMCMXCVI@reddit
It's worse then the game ends with a cliffhanger and the next game that comes out is a slop and you don't want to play it.
Yeah I am talking about Dragon Age
softandflaky@reddit
