Dear Mr. Vernon…

…we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are.
You see us as you want to see us—in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is:
a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, a princess, and a criminal.
Does that answer your question?
Sincerely yours,
The Breakfast Club

Get with the times, it's Gen Z vs Gen Alpha now, no one cares about our irrelevant asses.
buppiejc@reddit
Speak for yourself, Millennials, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha are fine. They’re the future, and we need to build community, and nurture them if/when the opportunity presents itself, especially if you’re in the United States. Please leave that old tried Boomer mentality in the past. It’s caused enough problems on this planet.

Tons of great rappers Xennial or younger, although yeah Kanye, Snoop, Busta, Tupac, and Biggie are all GenX
Jerkrollatex@reddit
Gex is 1965 to 1980 so yes, they count.
TiEmEnTi@reddit
Yeah by that definition it covers most big mainstream rappers from the Beasties and Run DMC and LL until you get to Lil Wayne era who was the first Xennial (unless you're counting like Lil Bow Wow who's actually solidly Millennial). It would only be the really early guys like Grandmaster Flash era who were Boomers. So far enough, full credit to GenX for rap, and probably techno/EDM too although its roots are in disco.

Man, if we gave the slightest shit about cultural relevance there would be a problem.

And Xennials fall into the space between.
We don’t hate anyone… maybe cept for sell-outs and repeats.

I'm on the X side of the line by most measures, but their sub sounds just like cranky old people to me. The world is always changing and I'm not ready to pack it in and live in the past just yet.
Oye_Oso@reddit
It's fucking depressing over there. I'm not quite ready yet to pack it in and live on the couch watching tv and complaining about aches and pains like my boomer parents did. There are trails to be hiked, vistas to explore, a life to be lived, dammit!
Jerkrollatex@reddit
I left that sub because it's a bunch of cranky old straight dudes being exclusionary. Post something about being a Gen x woman or LGBTQ person, get down votes and removed for being "political". Fuck it I took my ball and went home.
DrewBaron80@reddit
My wife and I weren't able to have our son until 2015, so we have a bunch of millennial friends since they tend to have kids his age. They're all great people. My younger sister, her husband, and their friends are cool too.
DrDew00@reddit
Yeah, millennials are generally pretty empathetic as a generation and often celebrate differences rather than simply ignore them.
RushBubbly6955@reddit (OP)
Good! Many of us are on the cusp of both generations
Roland-Of-Eld-19@reddit
Yeah thats pretty much the definition:
VERY OLDEST Millennials + VERY YOUNGEST Gen X= Xennials

Listen Gen X… I love ya but you’re over 50 now. It’s time to move on from “we’re the forgotten latchkey kids” schtick.

Did someone just make this up?
I have literally never seen any generational beef between X and Millennials.
Mountain-Fox-2123@reddit
You're so edgy.
jasonmoyer@reddit
GenX is turning to shit as we age like every generation, but I've felt for awhile now that we've been significantly less puritanical than the prior and following generations. And I feel a weird kinship/mentorship with GenZ, in that they seem to have a similar lack of tolerance superficial and self-righteous bullshit like we did.
Jokierre@reddit

DmtTraveler@reddit
That's a lot of generations
muhredditone@reddit
I don't hate Baby Boomers. They're the generation that forced our values into mainstream news. Animal welfare, the preservation of nature, free education, civil rights, equality, free school lunch, access to public transportation, access to the internet, recycling, free medical access, anti-war...the generation as a whole may have failed to correct a lot of wrongs, but it's absolutely stuffed with individual humans who cared about important things. And our generation failed to correct just as many. And so are the younger generations. The fact is that many of us would not even know about these wrongs if Baby Boomers hadn't forced it into discussion. They deserve our respect and gratitude, and when people say otherwise, I just think they're ignorant and childish.
Glum_Material3030@reddit
Well, some of them did. Some of them… well, they don’t give AF
Timotron@reddit
Can we all acknowledge that gen x is an entire generation of emotionally damaged mean people?
Like all of they all default to this level of assholeism not anywhere in millennials or us refined Xennials.
bootyhole-romancer@reddit
Agreed 💯💯💯
Gen X been flying under the radar for so long and is just now starting to get rightfully shit on. And you know what? They can't take it lmfao.
For all the bluster of apathy and indifference they try to project, they can't fucking help but lose their shit when you say something triggering.
The idea that Gen X doesn't care is the biggest farce in this whole generational discussion. And they fucking know it.
Timotron@reddit
Also that sir is an exquisite reddit handle

And it's this weird defining characteristic in the culture of that time.

I am definitely not in the Breakfast Cub generation, I was in preschool when they had detention. That’s why the Xennial generation has to exist.
Seraphynas@reddit
I was also born in 1980, and I grew up on John Hughes movies.
Top_Chard5757@reddit
I grew up on them too but they represented Gen X
Seraphynas@reddit
If you grew up with them and identify with them, then I would argue that they also represent you too.
Top_Chard5757@reddit
We’re you the same age as the characters? They were older than my brother and is 9 years my senior
Seraphynas@reddit
You don’t have to be the same age as the characters for a book or film to be part of the fabric of your generation.
I was well past the age of Hogwarts students when Harry Potter came out, it’s still part of the culture of my generation.
TrailerParkFrench@reddit
Leave us alone. ~Gen X
ThinkFree@reddit
I don't hate Millennials, they're basically Xennials but younger. I have more in common with Millennials than with GenX'ers.

As a Xennial, I’m not fond of Gen X either. Mostly because I’m considered a Gen X, but I’m not.

Half of my friends are either young Gen X or elder Millennials. I like both.
No_While7315@reddit
I find boomers and millennials to be very common. In every sense of the word. I just can't vibe with them.
Rude_Device@reddit
For me it’s GenZ. Many of them are more conservative, extremely religious, and racist/bigoted. I get bummed out when I talk to the younger guys at work because I can feel the optimistic part of me, that wants to think that we were headed in a better direction, just wither away.
songbirdathrt4122@reddit
Gen x - I don’t really hate any other generation I just want to be left the f alone! 😂
Brian1326@reddit
You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get.
