What is your “timeless banger”? You could put it on the radio today and it still would hit the charts.

I always felt like this song was ahead of its time. 1994? You could have told me it was 2010’s and I would’ve believed you. Still love this song and it’s still a part of my feel-good rotation.
What other songs from our youth could easily fit in with today’s music? Those that don’t sound “old” or decade-specific?

Maybe not exactly the question, but pretty sure Mr. Brightside will never die. It's 21 years old.

I still feel like Sublime can be played in any era going forward.

I basically had 40oz to Freedom constantly playing through HS, even learned what to look for on the actual CD to find an original skunk records pressing (not the MCA reprint). Never got tired of it.
But in more recent years I’ve learned they were all drunk dumbasses and weren’t particularly liked much (they got picked off the Warp tour). Kind of took them down a notch sadly.

Portishead, Dummy. The entire album.
Way ahead of its time, and could have come out yesterday.

Truly fantastic album. I would also say, in a similar vein, Mezzanine by Massive Attack and Maxinquaye by Tricky both really transcend time and trends.

This made me think of Mezzanine too, I discovered this album later in life but now I play it all the time.

Oh man. It's so good. I did the reverse by stumbling upon the Teardrop video on MTV2 when i was a kid in 1998 and ended up buying the album not long after. But it has appealed to me at all stages of life, in different ways and doesn't get old, even now at 40. It was also the gateway drug for me as an American boy in the South to their earlier albums and then so much other fantastic UK music I probably would not have found otherwise. So funny though, this was before I had the internet and would find music in magazines and most importantly, in the pre-constant-connection era, the All Music Guide.

I’m from England but the trip-hop scene kinda passed me by; I guess I wasn’t feeling the vibe back then. There was just so much good music in the mid 90s it was impossible to keep up with at all.
Then in the late 00s I circled back to some of the 90s psychedelic electronic sounds and rediscovered many of the gems I was ignoring at the time.

Definitely. I could listen to this song on repeat and not get tired of it.

Indeed. I feel that way about pretty much all of Violator. And a handful of their other albums too lol

Whatever bobbles bobbles up? Are those the actual lyrics? That’s what I’ve sung since I was ~12 lol

What is Love by Hathaway. A lot of artists today are infusing 80s and 90s sounds into their songs and this one sounds like it could have been released today.
Foolish Games by Jewel. Billie Eilish in particular has been releasing music that is slower, melodic and introspective like many Jewel songs were.
