Break me off a piece of that fancy feast!
rust-e-apples1@reddit
I wonder what percentage of the time people sing the kit-kat jingle to end with "fancy feast" subbed in vs the original. I've had probably a dozen mini kit-kat bars this past week and haven't thought of the tune once. But show me a can of fancy feast and it's stuck in my head all day.
all_no_pALL@reddit
I was singing “fancy feast” this past week pilfering my kids’ Halloween candy

Not a jingle but see if you remember.. „New York City?!?“

Yeah :)

6 is the only one that doesn’t instantly trigger a jingle to me.

1971?? No wonder xennials don't remember it, lol
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
It's pretty famous, and was aired for decades. It also featured heavily in Mad Men.
JoeGibbon@reddit
Also implied in ending of Mad Men that Don Draper wrote that jingle.

MotherofaPickle@reddit
Ah. That’s what I thought.
Truth_Seeker963@reddit
It’s the Coke commercial.
ABH1979@reddit
Yeah, I’ve seen it online, but never saw it on TV, so no nostalgia for me there.
red286@reddit
Makes sense. It was in the early-to-mid '70s. Last used regularly in '76, with the Christmas variant being used until '79. They've rolled out a few 'updated' versions in the decades since, but usually they're one-offs for special events (Superbowl and some NASCAR event).
I imagine most people's modern familiarity with it stems from its appearance at the end of Mad Men.
gyrlonfilm6@reddit
6 I remembered but 7 no clue.
ABH1979@reddit
7 was the AT&T slogan.
gyrlonfilm6@reddit
I'm usually good at remembering jingles but that one, no clue. I'm gonna have to watch the commercial now.
marbotty@reddit
You can also see it referenced in European Vacation by Audrey
ABH1979@reddit
I don’t think it had a dedicated jingle, it’s mostly just the slogan. That might be why it’s harder to remember.
Ralliman320@reddit
Not a jingle, per se, but it was musical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OapWdclVqEY
AQUAmomma777@reddit
6-7 😂
gyrlonfilm6@reddit
💀💀💀 🤣
Baked_Potato_732@reddit
Same and I can’t recall which telecom 7 was for.
RupeThereItIs@reddit
It does, but only because there was a Boomer nostalgia wave marketing campaign to reuse that jingle in like the 90s or something.
I recall it CLEARLY as appealing to boomer nostalgia, as in "remember when we taught the world to sing as a bunch of hippies" to which I said, no, I was born in '78 shut up.
ti3kings@reddit
This one is a little before our time I think. The only reason I know it is from Mad Men.
dragon_morgan@reddit
7 is the only one that doesn't ring a bell (and seems to be setting me up to get arrested for assault)
rinky79@reddit
The funny part is that 6 was probably the biggest one. I might have been earlier, though.
ABH1979@reddit
Sure, but that commercial is from ‘74, right? Probably better known to Gen X than Xennials.
AnticitizenPrime@reddit
It played a pretty big role in the final scene of Mad Men.
Shit, that was ten years ago...
boulevardofdef@reddit
Don Draper's greatest moment.
ABH1979@reddit
Ah, I see. Guess I should have finished watching Mad Men.
AnticitizenPrime@reddit
Fantastic show... I think I'm due a re-watch, after I finish binging Deep Space Nine :)
rinky79@reddit
That's why I said it might have been earlier (than the others in the list).
ABH1979@reddit
Right. Also, I think most of these other slogans were re-used for years in many different commercials.
karaloveskate@reddit
6 is more of a 70s jingle.
ThickSourGod@reddit
While it's probably the most famous of the bunch, it's much older than the others. It was from the 70s, so if you're on this subreddit, it would have been before you were born.
ABH1979@reddit
Yeah, that’s what I figured. I was only alive for the last 6 months of the ‘70s, so…
_WeSellBlankets_@reddit
For me it's number seven. I recognize it as a slogan for a phone company, but I can't put it to music.
Ralliman320@reddit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OapWdclVqEY It's at the end.
TheRoadkillRapunzel@reddit
I only get that one because of watching Mad Men. That one is Gen Jones, but the rest were all still popular by the time Gen X and a lot of Xennials can remember.
AQUAmomma777@reddit
Agreed
Rivas-al-Yehuda@reddit
I wasn't familiar with 6 either.
ABH1979@reddit
Yeah, I feel like that one is better known by older Gen X.

VanGroteKlasse@reddit
We had a tiny tv, but only Dutch tv stations, so no exposure to American tv commercials.
73-68-70-78-62-73-73@reddit
All I'm picturing are grainy images of windmills, wooden shoes, and pigtails. I know nothing of the Dutch of the 1980s. No one does, really. It's said all that knowledge is lost to dust and time.
VanGroteKlasse@reddit
Everything was grainy back then, we had an 8mm camera with all the grain you ever need. And all that knowledge was lost to the water, not dust. Plenty of wind too...

JoeGibbon@reddit
The last little bit of this commercial has the AT&T jingle I remember. That short little tune was used in some of their calling card commercials in the early 90s as well.
This was the original Alka-Seltzer commercial with that jingle. The "plop plop, fizz fizz" part of the jingle was reused in later commercials.
luxtabula@reddit

When I got to the last one, my mind kept going along the jingle from the Verizon Big Red commercial years back. I do not like Verizon (bad experiences), but it was the best commercial in the wireless wars.
I know what #6 is, but that was a little too early for Xennials. That was in the early 1970s, and there are some late Gen Xers that aren't going to be old enough to remember hearing it. I only know it because I was told about the old commercial in a different context and looked it up at one point.
