Does anyone else’s portable tire inflator not work properly or just mine?

You get what you pay for on most cases. A $20 unit may work in an emergency. A $200 unit will work for a long time.
No-Singer8958@reddit
I paid $100 for a Slime that doesn’t EVER fill more than one tire…. But it won’t even operate now. It was new a year ago. I hate it and them for putting out this sucker bait.
No-Singer8958@reddit
Mine was brand new. Never even put it in the car. It usually fills only 1. 35ibs psi.

GooLoo A3 car jumper/tire inflator for $110 dollars works perfect, check YouTube videos, especially Project Farm channel
Frequent_Ad1389@reddit
was good until it stopped pumping sucks and company sucks
gotcha640@reddit
Another vote for get what you pay for.
I have a Dewalt inflator for emergencies, and a ViaAir that clamps to the battery for off road air ups or if I had to do multiple flat tires, mostly lives in my trailer along with a plug kit.
Any cordless I would want removable batteries.
TraditionalAd3210@reddit
Viair makes a high quality tire inflator. It's not cheap though.
No_Breadfruit3471@reddit
Go with the Viair 00088 88P I do a lot of offroad so i air down frequently this gets my big tires from 15lb to 36 in less than 2minutes per tire
IMASA5@reddit
I have this one
Connects directly to the battery. Works great. However, taking it out, unwinding all the hoses and cords just to fill a tire 2-4psi and then having to wrap it back up and put it away made me less inclined to use it.
I bought a cheaper Ryobi 18V inflator and now that's my go to. Quick and easy
nekmatu@reddit
Fanttik x9 Apex has been amazing for mine. Holds a great charge. Gets my tires from 30-36 pai no problem for track days and autocross. Super useful. Do get a different air inflator hose for it. But other than that it’s phenomenal and accurate.
ASV731@reddit
Probably overkill for most on here but the Milwaukee M18 Fuel inflator is a beast. Easily would fill the 35” tires I had on my Raptor. Probably not practical to carry everyday though.
bimmerM5guy@reddit
I love mine, I even use it to blow out my sprinklers
TheCrimsonKing@reddit
I have their 12v inflator, and it's great. I bought it after trying and returning two other units with built-in batteries from Auto Zone and Home Depot.
If OP already has any power tools/batteries from one of the big brands, they probably sell an inflator, and it's going to be better than 90% of the units with buit-in batteries.
Ihate_reddit_app@reddit
I had the M12 one as well and it worked for like a year or two and failed on me. Now it "runs", but no air flow.
TheCrimsonKing@reddit
That sucks. I've had mine for at least a couple of years, and it gets used regularly every other week or so.
antaphar@reddit
Also have this. Can confirm it’s awesome.
JohnnyHopkinss7v8@reddit
This was my suggestion as well. Use it constantly for kid’s stuff, cars, trailers, motorcycles, beach balls. It truly was worth it
4o4_0_not_found@reddit
I had a shitty throwaway Amazon pump that melted on me lmao. I second the Milwaukee inflator
ignoramusi@reddit
The Viair 85P is far and away the best 12v tire inflator I have ever used. It can fill my tires back up after a track day so quickly that it is never a hassle to use. This company makes other inflators that are usually found in the back of cars with custom air ride with a big air tank, so this model can easily handle your use case scenario. Car just has to be running to use it, so if that sounds like a problem, definitely just get the battery Milwaukee instead. The tiny battery ones you see advertised everywhere are crummy and just marketing junk

This is the portable tire inflator that I currently have for reference. Couldn’t embed it in the post which sucks - I know you can add a link to the top but I don’t want my post to read like an AD.
ciaomain@reddit
I have this one and it works like a charm.
It goes on sale frequently, so keep checking back if you're interested.
SEX-HAVER-420@reddit
I got this one too and its worked great for me. I've used it for offroading adventures for inflating my tires after deflating them for sand and such.
frank3000@reddit
Brand: WNDFLV . When will people learn to recognize whitelabeled Chinese crap and stop buying it
NaGaBa@reddit
Maybe when there's ANYTHING "brand name" that doesn't suck ass or cost four times as much as the random letter generator brand that works just fuckin fine? Maybe then?
jemappellelara@reddit (OP)
You got me there. Especially when this is not even the original model we bought, it’s under a different name now.
wstsidhome@reddit
The ones that plug into a 12v cigarette lighter adapter have more power to pump higher psi quicker than a lot of the cheap rechargeable ones. I’ve had a slime cheapie from Walmart that is just super basic. Has the pump, a light, and an analog gauge. Works great and it’s 10 years old, bought for $15 I believe.
My friend has one that looks like a cordless drill and uses the same batteries as the power tools of the same brand….it has worked great as well. It’s the cheaper Walmart power tool brand HART, since he has a set of Hart power tools and a set of Milwaukee power tools. You can set the psi you want and it shuts off right where you have it set to, but I always watch it just in case…have a hard time trusting those types of setups for some reason 🤷♂️
Hope ya find a good one 🤙
Suby06@reddit
I have a cheap little 12v one and its just for top ups and not an inflator it says. It did manage to inflate from about 12psi but only gets to about 33-34, which is fine for most passenger cars I think
AtariXL@reddit
The product you bought is the cheapest, no-name, inflator / jump box combo I've ever seen so there's no surprise its junk.
I use a Dewalt inflator thats 100% accurate, fast, and seems like it will last decades. It's been such a game changer for me, I've given it as gifts! My jump boxes are NOCO and I trust 'em. Both brands have done nice black friday sales in the past, too.
You'll need a tire inflator the rest of your life, so buy once, cry once. Otherwise youll end up spending more re-buying cheap junk.
FrumundaThunder@reddit
Get one that plugs into your cigarette lighter from an actual store.
jemappellelara@reddit (OP)
So mine is also a 12v that I plug into my cigarette lighter but I was reluctant in doing it this way as my car’s complete junk and I had recent repairs to it including a new battery. I will try doing it that way though.
FrumundaThunder@reddit
If you’re worried about depleting the car battery then just have the engine running while you inflate your tires.
Kerrija@reddit
Usually these cheap ones are made with a plastic piston that is used in the compressor. If you use it for too long it'll cause the piston to actually melt and be less effective in inflating your tires. Once this happens it's ususally over for this inflator. Best to go get a new one.
HeadOfMax@reddit
I have the smaller bauer one that takes the 20v batteries. It hasn't failed me yet but I have a small car.
raptorboy@reddit
Mine works great make sure ya have it on the car setting most have bikes etc and won’t fill a car tire on the wrong setting or will take a long time
MeIsMyName@reddit
I have a Slime one that plugs into a 12v socket in the car, and it's not wonderful, but it is fairly cheap can definitely inflate a tire even if it takes forever doing it.
I also have a Ryobi cordless one that works okay, and it's less of a hassle than putting that long cord back in neat, but it runs the risk of the battery being dead when you need it.
Leaf-Stars@reddit
I got tired of my portable inflators failing me and finally bought the dewalt. It burns through a battery in no time but at least it does its job.
