Listening to Katrina

This was an informative website, essentially a snapshot in time as Hurricane Katrina unfolded back in 2005.
The original website is now gone, but I happened to come across a copy of the website from the Wayback Machine:

Just thought it would be interesting to post and discuss for some of the newer members.

I rode out Katrina. I heard it first hand. Katrina was different than most hurricanes that went thru in the lower keys. Sugarloaf to be more precise. Katrina brought a storm surge of over 6 feet and absolutely destroyed my car. The house survived with little damage.
First and foremost the generator and fuel were safe and I had over 12K gallons of fresh water in the cistern. It took almost 2 weeks to get the US 1 open.
Prepare for the wait...

I was up in baton rouge during katrina- +100k people flooded the city with no where to stay. people were living out of thier cars in empty parking lots. a large gun shop was burglarized - and for about 10 days it felt like the rule of law was breaking. water/food, back up power & weapons is now my priority for future natural disasters
