No, the site has been bought by Valnet in 2022 and is not a content mill, hence the constant flow of "I started using these X thing from Y and now I can't go back" type of articles and other listicles.

if your chip belongs to this list or is older still, it might be time to let it rest and switch to something new.
Thanks, supreme arbiter of when CPUs are too old.
Everything on this list but maybe the 3600 and 9600K is a joke.
Even with a GPU belonging to the performance class of, say, the RTX 3080 or RX 6800, you'll be able to see a phenomenal improvement in both average FPS and 1% low FPS.
Let me tell you a little secret: most people don't even have a GPU as good as a 3080. Reddit and YouTube is not the real world.
Reminds me of people here and elsewhere pretending like the 4090 and 5090 are affordable GPUs and everything under the 4080/4090 is Walmart bargain bin trash.
Some people haven't went outside in a decade I swear.
That's not how it works. The one making the claim, especially when it's self-evidently ridiculous, is responsible for backing it up with valid evidence. The only so-called evidence for crazy claims like that are based on the Steam hardware survey, which does not correctly identify AMD cards, lumping them together under a variation of "AMD Radeon Graphics".
The simple fact is, less than 1% of PC gamers buy those ludicrously expensive cards, massively less than the number of PC gamers who buy AMD cards.
Steam data correctly identifies AMD cards. There was a small issue one month that got fixed because AMD fucked up the driver identifier. The issue is that noone actually buys AMD cards.
3700X is still performing excellently for video encoding in my work computer. I think it will continue to work well until I want to start working with 8K video or something.
I retired my intel 2600K last year after 12 years in service, but not for lack of speed, but rather lack of supported chipset that software started demanding.
Gave it away, hope the new user is still putting it to good use.
Anyone on Ryzen 3000 & using them for gaming should seriously consider an upgrade to Ryzen 5000 or above -- Zen 2 has micro-stutters due to CCD layout that was fixed with Zen 3.
i5-9600K is 6c/6t and can be hampered in more modern titles (i.e. PS5 ports) due to lower thread count
Runescape players need hardware too. But by the time Civilization 6 rolled around, my 5Ghz 3570K was dragging itself uphill on sheer ice by the skin of its teeth. Civ 6 was 9 years ago holy shit (I digress)
I still gritted my teeth and held on through sheer stubbornness for three and a half more years because nobody had made an X chipset microATX board for Ryzen yet and I'd be damned if I didn't get at least two PCIe4 SSD slots.
In the end, it only happened once (ASRock X570M Pro4) right at the ass-end of AM4. The Biostar and Colorful "X570" mATX boards were fake and block diagrams showed they were just B550 in disguise
Yet to meet the AAA game my 9900K from 2018 can’t handle decently enough for my taste. Strongly disagree with the general sentiment of the article. If it works for you, no need to upgrade.
PrivateScents@reddit
Ah yes, nonchalantly telling people to go out and get a 5800X3D.
Also, my 2700x is fine thank you very much.
seatux@reddit
5800X3D is just unobtainable except from the used market. 5700x3d is more like it.
GarbageFeline@reddit
AFAIK they don't make new 5700X3Ds anymore as well.
CupZealous@reddit
5500 here. this list makes no sense. How are these CPUs "officially" too old? according to who and measured by what metric?
JuanElMinero@reddit
It's too old, once it can't do everything you need it to or as quick as you need it for everyday usage.
No garbage listicle needed for that.
GenZia@reddit
As someone who built a 5700X3D + 4070S machine last year, I've no intentions to replace it till at least early 2030s.
I was rocking an i7-4770 + RX570 before that, after all.
SpecialDecision@reddit
XDA's latest articles have been so shit that it's actually mind blowing.
My guess is that the editors made a bet on who could ragebait the hardest.

Strazdas1@reddit
are you telling me that my Pentium I is too old?!?
BunkerFrog@reddit
Sorry bud, your Pentium 100 is about to implode, please visit local SunMicrosystems retail store and utilize it for a 10% off coupon.
Strazdas1@reddit
Good thing i got a pentium 66 turboed to 100 by flipping the turbo switch!

randomstranger454@reddit
Do you not have RTX 3080s? Is this the new "Do you guys not have phones?"
If only there was a place with statistics of what GPUs, gamers use./s
BlueGoliath@reddit

Strazdas1@reddit
The 4090 and 5090 sold more than entire lineup from AMD that year. So yeah, apperently there are plenty of people who think they are affordable.
But yeah, most people will be buying xx60 nad xx70 GPUs. That being said, a 5060 (16GB) is pretty close to a 3080 in performance.
RealThanny@reddit
No they didn't. That's an absurd claim.
I already know what you'll cite as evidence, and you're wrong.
Raikaru@reddit
Do you have any actual proof that the claim is wrong or?

Raikaru@reddit
It 100% does recognize them though literally just click on DX12 cards and you’ll see them
Strazdas1@reddit
Steam survey may not be idea, but its the best data we have.
arunphilip@reddit
Here's the list, for those who don't want to click through.
voxadam@reddit
Yeah, I think I'll keep my 3900X. What a dumb article.
jecowa@reddit

bradleybradbrady@reddit
XDA has been overflowing with clickbait trash for a long time now. Such is the fate of poorly run tech websites...
voxadam@reddit
They definitely lost their way once the custom Android ROM scene shrunk massively.
Strazdas1@reddit
So basically they looked at anything released 5+ years ago and declared it too old.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
Should include Ryzen APUs because their drivers are too old too

I still use a 2700k in my jellyfin server and am happy with it.
hackenclaw@reddit
I am still using 2600K right now typing this post lol.
eight_ender@reddit
It’s a reasonable list to be honest. I’d add the much loved 9900k because even overlocked its dying in CPU heavy titles like Helldivers 2
ErektalTrauma@reddit
11900K is absolutely fine, even 10900K is.
The list is retarded.
doscomputer@reddit
I thought this article was gonna be cool, like genuinely old processors, and the first result is a ryzen 9 from 2019 LOL
sad state of XDA these days
jenny_905@reddit
None of these are too old for just about anything

I even know people who are perfectly fine with first gen i5s + SSD and some basic GPU for video acceleration.

I meant for basic use.
x7_omega@reddit
CPUs that are too old for Tanveer Singh, whoever that might be, if anyone cares what he thinks.
There, fixed the title for you.
Tonybishnoi@reddit
According to xda
x7_omega@reddit
Yeah. There is more there: "...and the owner of a PC building business".
So clever, for a MBA in Marketing.

Bah, I'm still using them.
Still faster than most other systems I've built since 2005.
