Worth it?

Found a 07’ 3.0 legacy for around 3k usd planning to make it my first project car. Looks like it has a bit of surface rust but more importantly it runs and drives, any suggestions on what to do with it if it seems like a decent buy to you guys? I know she runs on premium but that’s not gonna be an issue definitely gonna be a weekend car type of project

If you're putting premium in that thing you're wasting money. No Turbo, no premium ...coming from a guy with an 09 GT and a 07 NA wagon

EZ30Rs want premium - this is an H6 car - not a NA 2.5

If you like Legacy’s look for a manual turbo XT wagon of that same gen. They are in much higher demand and if you do a good job bringing it back to life you might make some money on it.

Don’t let it bring a legacy make you buy it this is junk in all senses of the word

Body rot is what kills old Subees.
Hard pass, unless you want to learn major body work as your first skill. Not that it's a bad skill to learn, but an old super common Subee is not worth the effort. If it was a barn find 911 it'd maybe be a different story.
When you lower this on to a jack stand, that jack stand is going to push through the rust and the jack stand is going to end up 3" into the body. I know this, because that's exactly what happened to the last Subee of this condition/vintage that I worked on.
If you must buy this car, I'd offer no more than $500-1000. I'm guessing the whole underside is basically made of mulch at this point.

Run man! This was hit hard in the back. Bad bodywork and now the car is rusting out. 100% not project car worthy. I might use it as quick and temp beater for $600 or less or as a doner car.

And that thing is guaranteed rotten underneath. If your fender wells are that bad, the rest is Swiss cheese

1000 and probably will only last the winter.

That’s a parts car at best

Hard pass

I wouldn't let you give me that car. 200k is insane, bud.

Glass transmissions and I think you have to have blue hair, Doc Martin's to legally own one.

I don't know where you live and I'm in Minnesota so that amount of rust in my opinion is minimal but concerning enough to address as time and funds allow. I personally wouldn't buy this ride.

Surface rust? Buddy you need to relearn what that term means. You're gonna need a quarter panel if you buy that rot pile
CrazyTechWizard96@reddit
Got Mr a 5 series BMW for 3 grand and less rust. Waaaay less rust.
This one, man, if it had 10% of the rust, 3 grand would be decent but like this? Nah, 500, that bitch's totaled.

Agree with what others have said regarding value. Looking at how the wheels are sitting in what's left of the arches I'd bet you'd be in for a complete re-bush and new suspension too. Needs rot checking by popping out the rear liners and getting underneath to look at the rear of the sill boxes and making sure it hasn't eaten across to the rear trailing arm pivot points.
Illustrious-Nail-360@reddit
That's like a 500$ car.

That isn’t surface rust, and no Subaru with 200K+ miles is worth 3K.

Way too much rust.
