Fortified train seems odd to me as a weapon since it has to stay on a predetermined route that can be modified or bridges can be blown.

I could not. With a plane flying over AA you can at least take evasive maneuvers or tanks offered some protection pre-drones, Carl Gustaf, or TOWs.

armoured trains in ww2 usually had pretty heavy AA armament so attacking them by air was not that easy. the moment you realise there are several known armoured trains that shot down multiple aircraft in ww2. and those are just the famous ones.
