Cobalt SS

Here is my ‘06 Cobalt SS. It was a fairly simple bolt-on set up when I picked it up, and I originally told myself “this is going to be my fun daily driver, so I’ll leave it how it is” and clearly I did not listen. I removed the factory supercharger set up and swapped to a Hahn s20G turbo kit. The turbo had some damage to the turbine wheel, so I watched a YouTube video and ordered the parts to rebuild it myself. Of course, I had to add some color to the bay as well. Shortly after completing the install, I added a Snow Performance methanol injection kit, and a custom catch can. This set up put down 302whp 347tq @17.5psi on 93oct with 50/50 WMI. Limited by fueling, I then went to a return style fuel system using an OTTP fuel rail, AEM 320 pump, and FuelLab AFPR. The car is currently running 21-22psi and I’ve not put it back on the dyno to see what it currently makes, but it has been a fun ride! Also, I’ve now put ~35k miles on that 20g turbo I rebuilt on my computer desk! As for cosmetics, more “modern” looking headlights, carbon “C7 style” hood, and swapped to the factory high rise wing. I’d love to swap to a larger turbo in the future and push it a bit more into the 400hp range eventually!

Absolutely beautiful job on the build! 😃 Had an 09 SS with 60k on the clock before it met its end. Loved these cars.

These are great cars and really wish they were more appreciated when they were new.

They truly are great platforms. I was among the cobalt hater club for a longgggg time (especially on NFSMW) Once I decided to give it a chance, it’s been a wonderful car!

The SC longblocks sure are tough. I grabbed one for my HHR that I need to dig into to see what was wrong with it....

Did you source a "Chevy" unit or a Saab mill? I remember years ago at SEMA here in Vegas and I was pouring over an Ariel Atom and I was looking at the transaxle and clearly saw Saab on it and asked about what drivetrain it was and he insisted it was Chevrolet. Badge engineering at its finest.

same factory sending engines into a huge variety of cars... :)
The euro built 6 speeds were often destined for saab cars so what you saw makes sense.
My long block and SC bits came from a USA Cobalt.

Scrolling through the pictures I was super confused, but after reading it... 21-22psi holy shit man... Save some boost for the rest of us.
... Anyways, stay awesome

I had the Saturn version with a gm factory stage 2 and I was seeing 18-20 with their pulley. These things churn out boost

Sad you put a turbo on it. -06 Cobalt SS owner

I did think the supercharger was cool. The heat soak, unreliable intercooler pump, and low power ceiling of the m62 was ultimately why I decided to switch.. plus I managed to scoop the entire kit up for $350! Too good of a deal to turn down. TVS blowers are overpriced imo 😅

M62 isn't that bad if you change the intercooler to dual pass. I like the sound better, personally. Vast majority of forced induction is turbo these days.

I turned a salvaged 06 SS cobalt into a DF Goblin a couple years ago. Used it to teach my wife how to drive stick before I hacked it to pieces. It was a fun little car.

That’s awesome! Watch the sleeves at 400hp. Mine popped at 427hp/407tq w/28psi w/meth inj.
