Spotted at SHV this morning, I’ve never seen a tail look like that before, nor planes parked so close together

i_am_a_dinguss@reddit
I literally thought it was a prototype of a dual fuselaged md11
Icy_Huckleberry_8049@reddit
MD-11's
Mcnughub@reddit
Looks like they've been reverse peeled
AmazingProfession900@reddit
It's the MD-11 with the new highly efficient transparent engine configuration.
Far_Dragonfruit_1829@reddit
This design is immune to compressor stall and TIT overtemp. EPR sucks, though.
zippy251@reddit
The new Dyson airplanes
Far_Dragonfruit_1829@reddit
Ain't nobody can afford one a those
Melech333@reddit
I was about to say, those are gliders, not airplanes. 😉
PanAmDC-10@reddit
Well I guess this is a sign that they will be gone one day (md11 and dc10)

I feel like Pan-Am doesnt get enough love
Quantiad@reddit
MD-11, I think the additional centreline bogey is the giveaway.
Mike__O@reddit
Not necessarily. The DC/MD-10-30 had the center gear. The dead giveaway for the MD11 is the squared off tail. The -10 had a rounded tail
Deathman2024TTV@reddit
But also the DC-10 didnt have any winglets from what i know
Quantiad@reddit
Oh, I see. Which bit of the tail?
Mike__O@reddit
The cone at the end of the fuselage
Quantiad@reddit
Nice. Thanks for the info.
JSpencer999@reddit
It's a DC-10 zwilling.
Deathman2024TTV@reddit
MD-11
JSpencer999@reddit
Wow. Tough crowd 🙄
Stolisan@reddit
Looks the one on the left is a MD11 and the one on the right is a DC-10-40.
Deathman2024TTV@reddit
Nope both are MD-11s
Mike__O@reddit
Both are MD-11s. You can tell by the squared off tail cone. The DC/MD-10 had a rounded tail cone
Deathman2024TTV@reddit
Also the MD-11 has winglets
YellowT-5R@reddit
Fucking sexy is what they are.

Deathman2024TTV@reddit
MD-11 because of the winglets
Deathman2024TTV@reddit
MD-11s for a second i thought they were DC-10s but the second picture showed the winglets so its an MD-11
XRP_Bytes@reddit
What you see are gliders -> no engines = no planes.
The winch launch must be awesome 😎
jay_in_the_pnw@reddit
yeah, back in the day I used to tow these behind my ag cat out of KOA until we hit the thermal over Kilauea, they'd typically release at 10,000 AGL glide, ride on up to 40,000 and glide back
RedHuey@reddit
Oh, c’mon, this was one of the most iconic airliners ever. Do you really need help solving the mystery of what it is?
Luop90@reddit (OP)
What can I say, I’m a young whippersnapper and haven’t seen one before lol

koinai3301@reddit
One of those triple engine beauties. But they are not parked thaaat close. If you see the gear you can notice that one on the right is parked quite ahead. But from this perspective it surely looks too close for comfort.
Gutter_Snoop@reddit
Well, they're also missing all their engines and a lot of other parts, so I'd say they aren't "parked" close to each other so much as they were stacked like that by tug and left to slowly decay.
koinai3301@reddit
Could it be that they were parked first and then parts removed later? Maybe they were not parked at the same time too. One could be days or months after the other. Just curious.
Gutter_Snoop@reddit
I mean that is what probably happened yes. Scavenging old retired planes for parts to keep other older planes flying isn't that uncommon. Either way, they're probably there for the rest of their lives.
koinai3301@reddit
Cannibalising, we call it:))
Gutter_Snoop@reddit
Pretty much. Picking the bones, lol
