What's the situation in UK about censorship?

Hello everyone! I'm an Italian guy who's very concerned about the evolution of internet security and censorship. In our country, starting November 12th, it will no longer be possible to visit sites containing pornographic material without identifying the user. I discovered that similar laws exist in the UK... and I've learned of cases where law enforcement has arrested people for social media posts deemed "controversial." Now, my question is very simple: is the situation in this regard really that tragic, or is it being "blown up" by the media? How do people feel about it?
