ULPT request: Someone owes me $20, how can i have it back?
Posted by 24morrison08@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 47 comments
Someone asked me for $20 to lend them and get out in cash for a “appointment that can only be payed for in cash” i was scepitical but i got the money out at an ATM and dropped it off, to which they handed it to somebody in a car and they drove off (obviously buying drugs) they said they would pass me it back 2 days from then, its been nearly 3 weeks. How can i get back at them or (potentially) get my money back? I was just going to remove a wheel off of their car, as i know i can sell that for more than $20 haha. Thought you guys might have a better idea for me

Sounds like all it cost you was $20 to get rid of this person out of your life
Bowser_killed_mario@reddit
Look, it cost you $20 to get rid of him. He’ll never bother you, or ask you for money again He’s out of your life for $20.You got off cheap. Forget it. 🤟🏼🤌🏼

Uhhh... if he just suckered you out of $20 and you never pressed him for the money back or mentioned it to him again, wouldnt he bother you for money... all the time?

We're all from The Bronx here and thats no tale.
Kramdawgers@reddit
Yup and never loan more than what you’re willing to just lose. $20 is my limit, if I get it back great, if not then that person avoids me forever
Affectionate_Job_201@reddit
Shit, .22LR rounds are like 60 cents a piece if your buy a box of 40 bullets, all it ever does cost you is $20 to ge5t rid of a person out of your life
BBorNot@reddit

My great grandpa once told me "If you loan someone $20, and they don't pay you back, you learn their integrity is worthless than $20. Throw that person away, that was $20 well spent."

Take the tire and sell it for more. This way you profit from the sale AND profit from a life lesson. Win'Win!

If you know their d.o.c., you can look up how to fake it (think of the episode of The Office where Michael tries to frame Toby with weed that turned out to be a caprese salad) and tell them you got the hookup for them. You can fuck them over with their own habit and get your money back at the same time. 😆

$20 to get a shitty shady person out of your life sounds like $20 well spent.

Every single time you see him. Before you say hello. Ask him “do you have my money”. Pretty soon you won’t see him anymore. Best $20 investment against future drama ever.
r-amp@reddit
Get over it.
Lesson learned for cheap.
Key-Candle8141@reddit
Once you have them securely duct taped to a chair count fingers and toes there should be 20...
Begin removing them one at a time each time giving them the opportunity to purchase them back for $1 each

Steal their windshield wipers. Use a sawzall to cut off all of their house’s outside doorknobs. Superglue some roadkill to whichever bumper they are less likely to see before driving. Superglue a harmonica facing forward on the bottom of their car so they always have a musical drive. Sprinkle birdseed around their car every night, then cover the car with it once the birds know it’s a regular feeding spot. Get some colorful stickers that include comments about hating the police, backing whatever group you know they’ll hate looking like they support and place them on their car. Fuck their dad. Steal the money back out of dad’s wallet. Shit inside the thief’s pillow case. Let me know if you need a second idea.

Not unethical, but I've always had the philosophy that I will lend anyone a reasonable amount of money (for us regular everyday people) ONE time. That's the goodwill credit I extend. If they pay it back, I'd gladly do it again, once. If they don't pay it back, every time they ask "I just don't have it right now."
Affectionate_Job_201@reddit
This is silly, find out which drug hes buying, buy a dime sack of it from a local homeless person, then burn him on a fake $30 sack by making it big enough to look like an insane once in a life time deal, making up a story about how you came across it by some crazy series of events but want nothing to do with it, and letting him try a few "samples" out of the dime you bought.
azjerrylee@reddit
Dude the amount of time you spent thinking about this you could've made $20. Work 1 hour, move on.
If you're broke don't lend people money.
If you lend someone money, make sure it's someone you like and you never expect to get paid back. If they do it's like a nice surprise, and they'll appreciate you not bugging them for it.
JBobalou@reddit
Take the peaceful path.
Chalk it up as a cheap lesson about the person and life in general. Don’t ever loan out money you need back and aren’t prepared to lose. To anyone.
That or ya know, grab that wheel
SharkBabySeal@reddit
Think of it like this , it’s only cost you $20 to learn a lesson in lending other people money.
Odd_Alps_7468@reddit
Watch the movie "a Bronx tale." All around fantastic movie but there's also a very epic scene that will provide the wisdom you seek.

The last time someone "borrowed" 50 bucks from me and never paid it back. I used that fact on the same person 3 years later when they asked to borrow again and didn't loan them any more. They stopped asking. They still never paid me back 10 years later. I also used that instance on anyone else that asked to borrow money. "Sorry I loaned 50 bucks out to a co-worker and they never paid it back."
The only spot I have loaned money was every other week me and another co-worker from another dept went out for lunch on Wednesdays and traded every other week who paid just to make leaving the little shop quicker. I haven't lent money to anyone not family since.
Frosty-Diver441@reddit
Be glad it was only $20. Sorry but it's gone. If it makes you feel any better, some people have lost a lot more the exact same way.
whteverusayShmegma@reddit
Offer them $20 for a ride somewhere or the equivalent and then tell them you’re even when it’s time to pay. Best you can do.
ChickenBasher88@reddit
Start charging them interest on the loan and when their balance hits 600, file a 1099-c with the IRS. Its a discharge of debt form which turns that money into taxable income, and they will have to claim it on their taxes.
cybeaux@reddit
Had a coworker who borrowed money from me. Never paid me back and never talked to me again.
Worth it.
PoopsieDoodler@reddit
It only cost you $20 for a lesson that will last a lifetime. Never loan money to someone if it will bother you to not get repaid. This means even if you can afford to piss it away. If you can’t afford to give it; don’t loan it.
Baguetele@reddit
$20 GTFO of my life fee is pretty cheap to be rid of trash. Consider it good investment and let it go.
itcouldbeworsemydude@reddit
Consider it an investment in your learning, as hopefully you've learned to not give money away like that. As for the petty stealing to get it back, I'd advise again it, not sure how stable the person is and retaliation with addicts is always a gamble, they could do nothing, or they could find a way to ruin your day
LowVoltCharlie@reddit
It's not even worth worrying about. Cut this person out of your life and be done with it.
Winston_Carbuncle@reddit
Chalk it up to a lesson learnt.
Dont lower yourself for $20
UterineDictator@reddit
You’re not getting your money back as it has been spent on drugs and the drugs have been done. Just be grateful it wasn’t $100 I guess. Suck nevertheless.
PawsbeforePeople1313@reddit
You'll never see that money again.
Cuneus-Maximus@reddit
Offer to sell them drugs. Give them fake drugs.
