Sunrise and Planes potting. MIA 5K runway run

Got to run on an active runway two weeks back during the MIA 5K runway run. Snapped a few shots of the aircraft lineup and sunrise over the runway .. Aviation heaven!

This is cool! More airports should do this.

Probably won’t ever get this at SAN.
RBeck@reddit
Maybe across the bay, but you'll have to enlist first.

the MCRC is walking distance from the terminal.

MIA is a really great place to plane-spot. Lots of neat planes there.

We got a DC8!

Also some cool buildings from Pan Am… unfortunately the Eastern ones were torn down a few years ago :( now I will never be able to see them
jgilbs@reddit
My knees hurt just thinking about running on such a hard concrete surface. Ouch.
Southern_Acadia6180@reddit
ahh yes potting planes

Hi
elkab0ng@reddit
OP delivered on commenter delivering!
samgarita@reddit
This is another visual reminder that the 777 is a very, very big aircraft.
mb271296@reddit (OP)
Literally. Wasn't even half the size of the engine
NetworkDeestroyer@reddit
Truly a really power aircraft for the size it is. Can’t wait to fly the next gen 777s whenever that will be at this rate.
Hugo_5t1gl1tz@reddit
Yes it is. I’ve flown on the 200 a couple times. Once in the very back row, and it felt like I walked a mile to get back there lol

I have always wanted to run on a runway! I see comments in here of TPA and ATL. Does anyone know of any other airports that have running events like this?
mb271296@reddit (OP)
I've seen ADs for the ones at IAD and DFW before
ComicalDictator@reddit
did the 5k at ATL, would highly recommend
YMMV25@reddit
You got to run on an active runway? Now that’s the kind of excitement I’d be willing to pay for. Do you just dive off to the side when there’s an arrival?
hoppertn@reddit
It’s closed for the 5K but there is a time limit. If you don’t finish in time they run 747 down the runway to motivate stragglers.
Key_Cell_3980@reddit
That would be so cool, but with my leg I would probably have to be picked up by Airport Ops lol
hoorayforpopcorn@reddit
Great shots! What a cool experience!
Ant0n61@reddit
This is awesome.
Is this once a year this weekend? Just flew out this morning too
mb271296@reddit (OP)
This is once a year but was two weeks ago 😅. But what I found is that many airports across the US have this thing. So you may want to Google it in cities around you
Ant0n61@reddit
cool. Had no idea! Thanks for posting
Prestigious_Leg_2345@reddit
Wondering the same! Would love to do this.
KAM1KAZ3@reddit
I sure hope not...
chuckop@reddit
I do the TPA 5K most years. I’d love to try the MIA 5K next year.
Mikez63@reddit
I did the TPA runway 5K once, but it def would have been cooler with a 777 on the course
350smooth@reddit
Which runway did they use? I got to do this once in ORD the day before 10C/28C opened. Great experience.
mb271296@reddit (OP)
This was on 8L/26R. It was amazing!
Key-Monk6159@reddit
Looks like a great day. Thanks for sharing 👍
