Polish P.P. (armored train) No. 1 "Piłsudczyk" - September 1920 had a very unique design of 122mm gun armed artillery car. it was modernized and still in use during the invasion in 1939.

google translation of the photo description reads "Polish armored train No. 1 "Piłsudczyk" - September 1920
A leading artillery car of a Polish-built Lwów, armed with, among other things, a 122 mm howitzer. Interestingly, he survived in Polish service until 1939 (it was rebuilt), at that time he was a member of the "Death". In the "Piłsudczyka" from 1920 you can also see an assault car acquired in 1918 in Prokocim, and it survived in service until 1939."

I was trying to figure out if that second car had an armored "crow's nest" observation post, but that's the smokestack I guess!
Which one is the "assault car", the armored one behind the locomotive? And what do you mean by "assault" in this case?

the one behind the tender. it's former austro-hungarian from a train like the one in the photo.

So basically it's an armored troop-carrier car?

yes with MG embrasures' (fancy term for firing port) when the Austor-Hungarian emprie collapsed these trains obviously got taken by whatever new nation they suddenly found themselves in. Poland got two of the heavy types shown above i think.

I'm far too tired, I read that as "122mm Gun Armed Dining Car" and wondered how that worked.

to be fair its a very odd looking train.
