I remember the WASP and the Hiller..and they worked back then and this Volonaut will work too now. Advantage Carbon Fibre and Computer Stability Control and FADEC for the win
According to r/aviation this is not the future of flight they want anything to do with. Me ? I am amazed that one guy got it done after Paul Moller spent Millions of dollars on his Moller Flying cars and got pretty much nowhere. I remember seeing the WASP XJet and the Hiller Flying platforms and thinking...we are all going to take to the sky. Then again I thought I would be able to visit the moon too. Well you see how that went. Its sometimes not worth posting on Reddit. The conversations are not really happening here anymore.
Reddit can be exceedingly narrow minded and dogpiles on people. Theres a very idealistic aspect to most comments that needs to be acknowledged more. Like doing something out of the norm, or dangerous or just socially grey gets people upset on here. One time I grew a bunch of plants in the same pot and everyone got upset in the comments because they wouldn’t grow as well. But it’s what I wanted to do and it looked cool. It sucks because it’s a really cool place but really toxic. People take out their anger at others on here.
Stopped making them while I was still in school and as I was never a rider either.
But I’ve always wanted a trike so I will reevaluate that idea.
Thank you.
My two main questions are, where was this filmed (I'd like to figure out why that stretch of bridge is out in the middle of nowhere by checking it out over at historicaerials.com) and what's the music from? It sounds very movie epic-like.
Public sources, including Volonaut's official videos and press releases, do not disclose precise GPS coordinates or named sites, likely for safety, privacy, or regulatory reasons during prototype testing. However, visual matches from footage suggest a site similar to the Jaskinia Raj Cave area or nearby dry valleys in the Świętokrzyskie Uplands (approximate coordinates: 50.85°N, 20.85°E), known for their arid riverbeds and forested ridges used in outdoor activities.
He is based in Poland and one could be forgiven if you assumed that was where he was flying. There are plenty of dry boulder-filled riverbeds the world over/
Dude, this thing is not only dangerous in several ways for the operator and anyone he may fall on, it's also a severe fire hazard in the forests he's flying, especially that low. I live in SoCal - We're kinda touchy about that sort of thing.
In the early days of their experiments, the Wright brothers faced skepticism and criticism from many people. Some negative comments included doubts about their abilities, skepticism about the feasibility of flight, and accusations of fraud. Critics questioned the validity of their claims and often dismissed their efforts as futile or even dangerous. However, despite these challenges, the Wright brothers persisted and eventually succeeded in achieving powered flight, proving their critics wrong.
Yeah it’s silly, and impractical but aviation has always had the spirit of trying out new shit and seeing what works. It’s a cool idea. Sure it’s probably totally impractical and doomed to never go anywhere. But I want one.
I'm curious how this will fit into the current regulatory and airspace system? Assuming it falls under powered lift. Super cool, I can't imagine what the insurance cost will be....
I am kind of 10/10 I want one but I can see this getting snapped up by the military. We have enough trouble chasing cars. Imagine if they make a 2 up version how many jailbreaks there will be...or even if they have a remote control version zipping into a prison exercise yard and taking a prisoner on a 20 minute trip to freedom. Watching a bankrobber zip up into the sky and down the river to a waiting yacht.
Nothing but trouble and yes I want one or two

Flying platform but not as shitty? https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/hiller-model-1031-1-flying-platform/nasm_A19610070000

Good stuff. Plenty of great ideas couldn’t be fully realized due to technological constraints so its cool to see stuff like this.

I used the search function before I bothered to post and found nothing. Its been a while since I had seen something that was not a Quadcopter..

I guess not enough people have been injured on quad bikes!

The trike configuration was even worse.

Yes, but I want to look at that particular dry riverbed because a bridge being in the middle of nowhere without any approaches is interesting to me.

Judging by the noise level it won't take long before one gets shot up by an angry neighbour.

I love how r/Aviation is the place where the future goes to die. 0 upvotes because no wings but still flys. I should have posted it somewhere else.

What does practical have to do with fun? Not a whole lot.

It’s not the impractical part, it’s the death machine part.

Have you ever dreamed to fly like a superhero with the ability to glide through the air with no effort?
Embark on a breathtaking journey riding your Airbike — fly out, zoom above the land, explore the horizon, and glide back as if in a dream.
Volonaut is about the triumph of technology, engineering and design that materialize science-fiction dreams.
This approach resulted in a fully functional real-world speeder bike that so far only existed in sci-fi movies.
