ULPT: Dealing with an aggressive neighbor’s dog
Posted by eseeltanques@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 30 comments
My neighbor’s pitbull (who is sometimes without a leash or unchained) has attacked multiple dogs in the area, including mine. Local authorities are dragging their feet. What can I do to keep my dog (and others) safe while waiting for them to act?
bitchy_mcgee@reddit
Use Wasp Spray. 25 foot accuracy range. Blinds the dog and owners will need to take to vet for care.

This is the country in me, but sometimes you just have to put down a menace that is too far gone for societal safety.
And sometimes their shitbull needs to go too.

Write (snail mail or email) to every department (mayor, city council, police, animal control, etc) that an aggressive dog is permitted to run uncontrolled. List the number of incidents and any witnesses/victims.
Unacceptable this is an ongoing problem.
And sue the owner in small claims court.
His homeowners/renters insurance doesn’t want this liability.

Also the news
WerhmatsWormhat@reddit
Is the news really gonna report on some random aggressive dog?
Audixix@reddit
Local news probably would. An aggressive dog who’s terrorizing many people with no real action being taken? I’d think that would be covered
Huge-Music3989@reddit
Bear spray

Leave out bowls of antifreeze.
This is unethical life pro tips, not iloveanimals life pro tips.
Poison that fucker.
Tw1ch1e@reddit
I don’t think that works with dogs tho… that’s a cat thing I think.
spinonesarethebest@reddit
Won’t work. Antifreeze has been embittered for years, because pets and kids were drinking it because it tasted sweet. Lost a cat to it about 1988.

You could shell out the money for bear mace
I've found a squirt bottle with water and amonia to be pretty effective too.
But if you really want to up the ante, go on the offensive with releasing a skunk into their yard. Then buy up all the tomato juice in a ten mile radius
Charlie24601@reddit
Tomato juice does jack shit. Don't use it.
A smell goes away because oxygen sticks to it and carries it away. So you want to basically flood the fur with oxygen bubbles.
So use a solution of Hydrogen Peroxide, baking soda, and a bit of dish soap.
WolfenSatyr@reddit
You're right, but tomato juice is the most common advice. The goal is to make the owner suffer in both olfactory and psycholical ways.
Resident-Mushroom-82@reddit
Mace or stun gun. He won’t come near you again after that.
Charlie24601@reddit
But what about the next neighbor? Or pet? Or child?
Resident-Mushroom-82@reddit
If it’s an aggressive pit bull, same outcome. Still need to report it but in the interim you gotta do soemthinf
DanAxe1@reddit
Antifreeze will do the trick, but it's very unpleasant for the animal.

Don't bother with animal control at that point, call the police. Or handle it yourself and have a reason, because an aggressive dog is not worth keeping around at the expense of others. Just don't use poison, because there's no way to control where that really ends up.
alek_hiddel@reddit
An aggressive animal charging you very likely justifies the use of deadly force (check your state laws).

You might get some good ideas if you post this on r/banpitbulls
Tasty-Adhesiveness66@reddit
get some bear mace, and when the dog is coming your way, spray it generously and call the cops for a rabid dog on the loose
SnooTangerines3448@reddit
Depends where you are from. There are specialised dog wardens in some areas, and they definitely DO take action.
danball6969@reddit
If it's an aggressive dog you have every right to defend yourself by any means necessary..
Ryanrealestate@reddit
Feed it a bunch of laxatives so when it goes home it shits everywhere.
Also cattle prod
Any-Practice-991@reddit
Short of just killing the dog (I love dogs, so last resort), you could try to lure it into a vehicle with food next time you see it out, then drive it to a shelter in the next town. Or drug it with tranqs.

Bear spray the pup?
