ULPT - Get rid of a motorcycle
Posted by Petalene_Bell@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 42 comments
Sis has a crappy 1980’s motorcycle that doesn’t run. Donation places have declined. Shed prefer to have her hands washed of it. Any suggestions?
nonamesandwiches@reddit
Have you tried piss discs?
The_Bandit_King_@reddit
FREE BIKE CMON GET IT!! on marketplace
MatSting@reddit
I had a free motorcycle at a garage sale once. No registration, didn’t run and likely would never run. Two guys fought over it, winner literally pushed it away.
Beetlelarva42069@reddit
Idk about unethical, but there are motorcycle junkyards and they'd probably take a donation. Also, near us the airsoft fields love to have junk vehicles as props/cover.
Unusual_Oil_1079@reddit
Airsoft and paintball fields is a good one, didnt think of that.
NumberOk9619@reddit
Put it on the curb for sale $500. Someone will steal it.
Significant-Glove917@reddit
Def need to know the make model to answer this.
Petalene_Bell@reddit (OP)
Honda rebel 1985.
Rich-Criticism1165@reddit
250 or 450?
puskunk@reddit
450 was 86&87 only.
OneChrononOfPlancks@reddit
Is it insured? Be a shame if it got stolen
Petalene_Bell@reddit (OP)
I suggested that as a joke. Not sure if she thought that was a horrible idea or if it has some potential.
thebootlick@reddit
Well you did say you’re in San Francisco… leave it outside for a few hours.
writinglegit2@reddit
Have you tried parking it on the street and putting a "free" sign on it?
Cuneus-Maximus@reddit
Post it for $100 on Craigslist…
bluecheetos@reddit
Is $100 really enough to deal with 500 "Is this available?" messages?
Cuneus-Maximus@reddit
You don't put any contact info, you set a date / time and say first come first serve and you wait for the first person to show up. Take the ad down soon as it's gone. Even better instead of listing for flat $100 say it's best offer starting at $100.
bluecheetos@reddit
Look up a non-dealetship motorcycle repair shop. Tell them what you have, tell them it's free. They will either come get it for parts or they'll know someone who wants it
luckyIrish42@reddit
Stick the keys in it and put the title in an envelope and tape it under the windscreen and stick a big sign on it. It'll be gone in 20 minutes
qwert45@reddit
Im on the other side of the country. Or I would’ve taken it
Sure_Comfort_7031@reddit
FBM for 200$, take whatever first lowball offer you get.
andytagonist@reddit
Would be a shame if it were stolen and an insurance claim filed…
Spazecowboy@reddit
Scrap yard? Or free on marketplace or Craigslist
razzemmatazz@reddit
It's a rebel? Offer it for free on CL. If it has a good title people will swarm you.
Former-Increase-9165@reddit
Simply push it out onto the street, maybe a away from your place, let the city tow it away,
coruscateserendipity@reddit
Sadly ethical, but find the FB groups for that make and model of bike, post it there for free.
superduperhosts@reddit
She wants it gone. What do YOU want?
Petalene_Bell@reddit (OP)
I just want to help. She asked for suggestions on how to get rid of it. I have no idea. I figured the internet might have some good ideas or at least some funny ones. If she suddenly decided to keep it and fix it up, she’s an adult and more power to her. It has no impact on my life what she chooses to do with it. :)
dresserisland@reddit
I'll come get it if you live near St. Louis.
Petalene_Bell@reddit (OP)
Nope. San Francisco Bay Area. Sorry!
ReindeerCreepy6502@reddit
Give it to me
YandyTheGnome@reddit
Put it out front with a sign saying "$100 OBO, ask inside". It will be gone by the end of the day.
ophaus@reddit
There are too many ethical options here. So... Donate the thing to a high school and then piss disc your annoying neighbor.
Leaf-Stars@reddit
Facebook or craigslist free section. You’ll get twenty flakes but eventually someone will show up.
Spaceseeker51@reddit
Local NPR may have a vehicle donation and they’ll pick it up for free.
newsjunkie-2020@reddit
Donate to a trade school for mechanics or bodywork
mabus42@reddit
I mean this is highly ethical. But, TBH, it's a really great idea.
takeoutboy@reddit
Search on Facebook Marketplace for someone who will pick up scrap metal for free. Or post it as free.
jjsprat38@reddit
High school auto shop may want to tinker with it
nelsne@reddit
Put it on FB marketplace or Offer Up app for a very low price. You'll get rid of it fast
thescrapplekid@reddit
Where are you located? I can take it if you're local to Delaware.
Skeggy-@reddit
Brand? Some of those 80’s motorcycles are worth money. Even not running because carburetor bikes aren’t too difficult to restore.
