How does this compare to Ampinel? Or any of Seasonic's solutions? Sucks that a 5 Trillion Dollar company can't be held accountable for this
Obvious_Drive_1506@reddit
No load balancing like ampinel and probably more expensive.
dedoha@reddit
der8auer explains in the video why they hiked the price, it's because they offer 2 years warranty for your gpu and if wireView doesn't resolve your issues they will replace your card
jsbyc@reddit
i didnt watch but i assume they will replace the connector not the card
dedoha@reddit
They will replace the connector on the card and if that doesn't work, they will replace/refund the card.
Afraid_Self_6110@reddit
Wow that is top notch
ominousproportions@reddit
They stated reason for no load balancing as possible unforeseen issues with it. The price is 119$ with no VAT or shipping. They do have 2 year warranty, even for graphic cards out of warranty, if something happens though.
Rhinopkc@reddit
It’s $149 shipped in the U.S., at least it was last week when I ordered.
LaM3a@reddit
It's 119€ VAT included in Germany
Obvious_Drive_1506@reddit
I think the load balancing has a much lower risk of issues than the connector itself. I'll be getting the ampinel instead.
alelo@reddit
no a problem could be:you would increase the reisistance in the OK lanes, pumping more power through the bad wire, which will increase the heat and prob lead to melting faster - as roman mentioned in the video
Obvious_Drive_1506@reddit
You can also choose if you want load balancing or when it'll work. If it's working properly this shouldn't be an issue.
techjesuschrist@reddit
exactly, Ampinel 79,90€ with load balancing WireView Pro 2 119,90€ without load balancing.
And that's after Aqua Computers (Ampinel's makers) settled a dispute and agreed to pay the makers of WireView (dont know exactly who) cash for some patents. So for every Ampinel bought, a part of that money goes to the WireView's makers (Thermal Grizzly??)
Rentta@reddit
Ampinel is about 50$ cheaper
imaginary_num6er@reddit
Ampinel uses 180 degree connector as a key difference
randomstranger454@reddit
Friendly reminder Ampinel will need the Aquasuite software which after some time needs a subscription for updates. Factor this cost too in the price of Ampinel.
And as someone who has Aquasuite that has its time run out I can't fully use it because it uses the winring0 driver and anticheat kicks me off games.
They still haven't fixed the problem:
And I have little hope they will push the update on older versions or grant us the fixed version for free.
Thermosflasche@reddit (OP)
FYI On their forum there is an info regarding that: Link
randomstranger454@reddit
Can run standalone but still you will miss features seeing the aquasuite screenshots. And I am not saying it's a bad solution. Just add the cost of the software of future subscription when comparing with other solutions.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
SeaSonic has no solutions
w_StarfoxHUN@reddit
Seasonic does have solution introduced just not out yet in any products. Check OptiGuard.
w_StarfoxHUN@reddit
This is simpler so less likely to fail. If Ampinel works, it is better, but as its more complex we yet to see if on the big scale if its more reliable or will just cause more issues. But yea if works as intended, Ampinel is the better solution.
joeyat@reddit
Great device for researchers I’m sure….But this shouldn’t need to exist for consumers.
Rift_Xuper@reddit
This 12v-2x6 is rated at 600w which it shouldn't. when I bought PSU v3.1 , I was shocked that how they're tiny pins !!
certainlystormy@reddit
i was looking into potentially buying 40/50 series and the cables they recommend terrify me lol
innerfrei@reddit
Not all 40 series have this bad connector.
certainlystormy@reddit
lemme clarify -
i was looking into buying a higher end card since my a770 going to a 4060 wouldn't be worth it at all. the 4070+ all have 12vhpwr unfortunately
TK3600@reddit
Why not just use AMD at this point?
certainlystormy@reddit
that's what i started looking at next lol. the 7900xtx is pretty compelling, $800 24gb gpu
innerfrei@reddit
4070 didn't come with the 12vhpwr as standard, I have a 4070 Proart and it has the standard pci-e connectors but there are also other models without 12vhpwr.
non-serious-thing@reddit
cant you just welds another port?
TenshiBR@reddit
I bought the Asrock PSU with a sensor on the 12vhpwr cable. I know by the time it starts to shut down to show me something is wrong, it's probably melting/problematic, but it gives me enough peace of mind. Plus, acquiring AMPINEL or this one is probably going to be a nightmare, since I would have to import and the price would double or triple due to taxes/import fees.
I also acquired an Asus with 3 years warranty, just to be extra safe.
Eero73@reddit
Basically for asrock psus the "OTP" on the cable doesnt really help. The cable will melt before it detects it. Its in the wrong place.
rafael-57@reddit
Remember, this is all caused by Nvidia's negligence. Vote with your wallet and buy used. They don't deserve your money.
TopSpoiler@reddit
No load balancing, No emergency shutdown, More expensive than AMPINEL. A good choice for anyone who wants a pretty color display.
Secksonlegs@reddit
Does ampinel offer extended warranty for YOUR GPU, even if your gpu was out of warranty at the time of purchase. That is a really big thing for me even with ampinel and active load balancing if connector melts somebody gotta repair the card. The TG guys will receive your card, repair, retest and send back and that seems quite nice to me. I have quadro octo and a bunch of aquacomputer shit but I don;'t know, might end up getting both just for the extended warranty lol.
TopSpoiler@reddit
Ampinel doesn’t offer extended GPU warranties, but it does come with current and thermal protection—just like WVPII—and even includes an load balancer.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
It has forced shutdown based on the video?
TopSpoiler@reddit
Oops, I didn’t look closely at the product description. It actually does have a shutdown feature.
HumbrolUser@reddit
People with custom watercooled 5090's are apparently screwed, as they I think can't expect RMA'ing their gpu, instead have to try talk to the seller if their 5090 card misbehaves badly in terms of overheating.
Anatharias@reddit
Cable connector could have been placed on the Bach to make things less messy. Good initiative though
Daemoni-73@reddit
Too bad this is not compatible with larger towerlike CPU aircoolers like Noctua NH-D15. I would order two of these immediately if it was.
Current design just can't fit, as the CPU cooler will come so close to the GPU connector / backplate. I have Asus TUC OC 5080 and the original NH-D15. Impossible fit.
The WireView output connector would have to be placed on the edge of the product, not in the middle.
