Toyota.
FLOHTX@reddit
What do you like about Toyota?
Fun_Variation_7077@reddit
I like that they're no bullshit transportatoon.
Slow_Description_773@reddit
400k kms on oil and filter only. Yes they drive like shit but who cares..
FLOHTX@reddit
Depends on the person. I had a brand new Tacoma that drove like shit and was uncomfortable. I traded it within 10 months because who wants to live with that for 20 years?
I guess I get it if you dont care much about how a car feels.
Slow_Description_773@reddit
I agree, that’s why I’ve bought a Subaru after 20 years of toyota, at least now I have some decent driving feeling, but I’m really worried about reliability down the road….
FLOHTX@reddit
Yeah, Subaru doesn't have the greatest reputation but aren't 100% bad all the time. Just do head gaskets as preventative maintenance every 100K miles/160K km.
I have an Audi S4 and Nissan Frontier now. I was a mechanic for years so Im confident in fixing whatever breaks. Already pulled the supercharger off the Audi to do a bunch of maintenance that would have cost a regular person $5K USD.
Slow_Description_773@reddit
Rumor is head gaskets is a sorted issue actually. What really bothers me is that you need to have a very knowledgeable mechanic nearby because no generic guy can properly take care of it….
SkeletorsAlt@reddit
Superficially boring answer, but.. the Celica, the Supra, the AE86 Corolla the MR-2, the Celica Turbo All-Trac, the Corolla FX16, the SC400, the FR-S/86, the GR Corolla and Yaris…
For the cliche boring company they sure have made a lot of interesting cars.

Oh, I didn’t notice you said BMW as well! I currently have an i4 and a 528i.

Mazda. Good looks, innovative history, sporty enough for me
FlyingWhale44@reddit
Can't agree enough with this. I haven't owned a Mazda for a while, but I've owned 2 in the 2010s and they are really good cars. I'd own one today if my local dealership wasn't piss.
As far as I know they have been adamantly against CVTs, having only made exceptions for the e-CVTs in their hybrids in partnership with Toyota. I really respect their commitment to the driving feel and soul of a car instead of mass producing A to B appliances.
alfonseexists@reddit
Porsche. Will never ever spend that much on a car but in terms of pure driving experience, very little comes close. (I’ve driven a few). Sadly most buyers are pure status seekers and never actually drive them on track where they shine
Heavy-Candidate-7660@reddit
I agree that a Porsche is a supreme driving experience, and that’s why I hate them. I dunno, maybe it’s because I grew up driving American pickups, budget sedans, and muscle cars but I like feeling a sensation of speed. I like having poor sound deadening and hearing the road noise. I like a really stiff suspension that shakes you around a little. I like it when the engine sounds frightening for a few minutes on a cold start. I don’t know, I feel like luxury sports cars and modern Japanese cars are so focused on making things feel as comfortable and smooth as possible that it disconnects you from the experience of driving and it makes it harder to notice issues with your car because you can’t feel or hear what it’s doing until it starts flashing codes at you.
alfonseexists@reddit
If I were to ever get a Porsche it would be older air cooled manual one. They are not as fast as newer ones but you feel everything. I love that
CBus660R@reddit
Porsche for me as well, and I've never even had a chance to ride in one as a passenger. I just like the blend of performance and long term durability they offer compared to exotics, and until recently, you could get a P car without being rich. I almost bought a 996 Turbo just as COVID was hitting. I passed, thinking prices would go down. Boy was I wrong about that! At this point, I just want a 997.2 C2S with a manual. Maybe in 2 or 3 years I can make it happen.
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
Brands are unimportant to me. I'll consider anything that has a manual transmission and four wheel drive with at least one locker.
Fun_Variation_7077@reddit

WhiskeyTangoFoxxxx@reddit
Completely agree with you about the B58. I’m talking about all the other components compared to a Toyota. I own a 2026 6MT Supra btw
AdEast9167@reddit
In the real world - Honda and Toyota (boring right?)
But in my fantasies; Alpha, TVR, Porsche, and Lotus cars live in my head rent free.
High5theoctopus@reddit
Alpha????
Do you mean Alfa?
AdEast9167@reddit
Yep - let’s blame autocorrect for that one

Heavy-Candidate-7660@reddit
Reliability wise? Mid 90s to early 2010s Hondas. They’re boring but I learned how to work on cars on them so I’m sure I could fix anything outside of frame rust with a few rock auto orders and a case of miller high life.
Fun to drive wise? Hot take, but I love Ford. I’ve owned a 1998 Ranger, a 2003 Focus, and a 2015 Focus. I’ve driven a 2017 F-150, a 2013 Mustang GT, and a 2009 Escape. Everything from the interior to the actual driving experience has been visceral without feeling uncomfortable. The steering is nice and stiff like I like it, brakes feel stiffer than a Honda but not as loose as my Silverado or my dad’s old Equinox, the windshield wiper stalk actually works the correct way instead of being backwards like on Japanese and some European cars. I had zero reliability issues with my Ranger until it hit 300k miles. I had no issues with either of my Focus models until the radio went out on my 2015, but I was planning on upgrading it anyway so I didn’t mind. I don’t have anything good to say about that escape, but I don’t have any complaints either. I really liked the F-150, but until I have to get rid of my Silverado I’m not in the market for another truck. I absolutely loved the 2013 Mustang.
The literal second I can afford it I’m going to start hunting for a 2016-2019 Mustang. I don’t care if my insurance goes up or if I get made fun of for looking like a douche. I love how they look and how they drive. I’m familiar with the interior. At this point in my life I value having a car that’s fun to drive and fun to work on and brings me joy more than gas milage or cargo space. If I get lucky and find the right woman I’ll get a second job and buy her a mini van, or she can figure out how to pack her life and our kids into the pony.
Careless-Pie7607@reddit (OP)
I LOVE Mustangs s550 or s650 are super clean and loud with the right setup. One of my goals is to get one to fulfill that childhood dream for sure.
cory556@reddit
Chevy! I've owned a few trucks, a few SUVs, a few cars. Never many issues despite the internet claiming GM is the devil. I think they're stylish as well. Really loving my C8 ERay, Silverado and Suburban!
Careless-Pie7607@reddit (OP)
Yeah Chevy is on the come up again. All models are currently selling really well and I might have to cop a c8 myself
nightmareFluffy@reddit
My favorite is Lexus because of reliability and customer service. Absolutely top tier, with mostly boring but nice cars.
I would've said Audi if their reliability were slightly better and their parts weren't ludicrously expensive. I drive Audi because their cars are super cool, but it's not an amazing brand overall. Alas, your question is very different from "which brand makes the coolest cars."
Careless-Pie7607@reddit (OP)
One of my favorites as well reliability with a nice look and enough power
Suitable-Telephone80@reddit
too bad about the new wave of bullshit they’ve pushed out, last gen best gen
nightmareFluffy@reddit
Totally agreed there. Interior of previous gen was nicer, too.
Trainator338605@reddit
Suzuki. My parents have a 2016 vitara and a 202X (I don't know the actual year) V-Strom and they had a Suzuki intruder from the early 2000s that they sold for the one they have now.
The Jimny, the Swift and the Kei cars are also amazing. Granted, the new Swace is a rebadged Toyota Corolla, and I don't know how good the S-Cross is, but I love the fact that they're still manual and still have a physical handbrake lever
Coldhartbaby111@reddit
Porsche.
But I’ve also taken a liking to Cadillac with the 6MT Blackwing duo, those are some fucking sick cars. Also really like their Escalades.
PurpleSausage77@reddit
Cadillac, including Corvettes/Camaro. 2016+ Camaro is on a Cadillac platform, same Alpha platform shared with 2013+ ATS/CT4 and CTS/CT5. The new EV’s are sweet, too. Sad the ATS/CT4 is going away.
Mr_Sloth10@reddit
1.) Honda 2.) Mitsubishi, their products are great now 3.) Nissan, I like some of the engine designs and the styling, but they still need to continue to improve that transmission.
PiffWiffler@reddit
The Nissan transmission is ‘fine’ now; it’s the VC engines that are the current problem.
Automatic_Mulberry@reddit
"For obvious reasons" - The reasons are not obvious to me.
Rapom613@reddit
Porsche. Reliable, practical, great to drive, only downside is price honestly, but they hold value so well that’s not even a huge issue

Jjmills101@reddit
Historically it’s Toyota/lexus for their weirder/sporty stuff like the mr2, is300, lc500, supra, jzx, 2000gt, etc.
For actual transportation Honda has always struck a perfect balance of packaging and ergo while still being light/fun to drive. No other company compares for me in the way they set up their interiors and how everything is exactly where you want it to be, with nice materials on the touch points and money saving materials everywhere else.
BuyLandcruiser@reddit
Toyota/lexus. I like things that can take a lot of abuse. They’ve been the most reliable for years for a reason.

My current car is a BMW. I love it and all the creature comforts, which probably makes it my current favorite. It also drives and handles very well. However, I do have a soft spot for Subaru as I owned one for a very long time and the car was great. Depending on packages and options for the new line of STI's coming out, I may consider swapping back.

If we’re talking realistically then as a brand over the course of my life I’ve owned a number of Acuras and just LOVED every one of them. My favorite was my 2003 CL Type-S 6-speed manual I bought during college. “Nighthawk Black Pearl” with black leather, 18in Konig wheels, custom cat-back exhaust, AEM intake, and a loud ass sound system with a 1000w 15in Audiobahn sub in the trunk. Seriously, 20 year old me thought I was the baddest mfer alive in that car lol. More recently I’ve had an older CL & an Integra and my wife had an MDX, and we loved all of them. Having a late model 1st gen NSX is basically a lifelong goal for me. Realistically I’d like to own another Acura one day, but now that I’m an older dude with a kid and care more about reliability & gas mileage & having room for my daughter’s stuff than I do about driving fast or loud exhaust & music, I’d probably get something like a lightly used RDX A-Spec.
But a more non-realistic answer is that I’ve just always had a thing for Lotus. Every single one of them just look so damn cook and as a kid growing up in the 90s my dream car was a Lotus Esprit.
