Do people in the UK understand what the NHS is?

I think some people are not even aware that they are a public owned company
elementarydrw@reddit
Ah yes... NHS plc. Just like the MoD plc and Home Office plc.
sodsto@reddit
There are four NHSes though
bgt7@reddit
Loads more than that - really each trust is its own nhs
sodsto@reddit
Sure, and the NHSes in Scotland and Northern Ireland have none; internal organisation is an NHS-specific thing.

Their post history asks if they are an alcoholic drinking 4 litres on weekend and slightly less other days.
Don’t expect a response they are probably in a world of swirls!

Tell me, where on Companies House is the Registration for the NHS?
Smart_Record_7989@reddit
I work in it and I agree people (and yourself) misunderstand it.
For me it’s easiest thought of as a “brand” and the various providers as independent businesses operating a franchisee model.
It means the various providers (hospitals, mental health surgeries) are actually relatively independent (particularly GPs) but sign contracts to deliver various core services and activities as part of the conditions to use the NHS brand.
Normal-Ad2587@reddit
I've never met anyone who thought it was private....
Also, it not a company.
MuayJudo@reddit
It's not a company, it's a service. You can't be a shareholder in the health of the nation.

Delete this post before too many people see it, mate. There’s still hope.

Are these people in the room with us now?

Just OP
non-hyphenated_@reddit
Do you understand what a "publicly owned company" is?
thebigfil@reddit
OP, please explain further?
nasted@reddit
The Tories were trying to stealth-privatise it. And Reform would definitely remove free healthcare if they get in. But the NHS is not a company.
1Moment2Acrobatic@reddit
I'd anything, one of the big things people often don't realise is that regardless of whether it is a company or not (it's not) it's not a single body. For example, a doctor moving to a new hospital trust will have to do new employee processes (unless that's changed in the last couple of years) and GPs are generally private contractors it's just they work mostly or solely on NHS work.
londo_calro@reddit
I am not aware that the NHS is a public owned company. Because it isn’t.
RepeatButler@reddit
Broken and in major need of radical reform?
adjective-nounOne234@reddit
Its a health service, not a company for starters
Indigo-Waterfall@reddit
The NHS isn’t a company. It’s a healthcare system.
super_sammie@reddit
Hi. I feel personally attacked here because you have made an assertion that is incorrect and that I am personally involved in.
Do you want a quick chat to discuss your thoughts and feelings or are you happy just being wrong?
EatingCoooolo@reddit
Yes we use it daily for free.
Purp1eMagpie@reddit
Do you? It's not a company
ajeleonard@reddit
Clearly you don’t actually understand what the NHS is….
feathersmcgraw24601@reddit
Well, the NHS isn't a publicly owned company, so that's a good start. It's not a company at all, publicly owned or otherwise.
PabloMarmite@reddit
That’s because it isn’t. It’s a series of trusts.
polymorphiced@reddit
Why would people care what their legal structure is? NHS = healthcare provided by the government - that's all most people need to know?
Then_Bodybuilder3967@reddit
I wouldn't call the NHS a "public owned company".
What do you think people think it is?
NotoriousREV@reddit
It’s not a company, for starters.
Remarkable-Shoe-4835@reddit
Why makes you say that
