But on a serious note - I started cooking when I was eight. At 50, I'd say I'm pretty good these days, but I made a lot of mistakes.

Worst one was - well, I'd use ramen as quick noodles. Can of tomato sauce, herbs, drained ramen = spaghetti. Drain the noodles, put alfredo sauce on them. This was the laste 80s, so I'd have many more options these days.

One day I was craving alfredo but we didn't have any. So I was looking around to see what else we might have. Mayo is creamy.....? Well, and if mayo, we'd always put mayo+mustard on most of our sandwiches that was tasty, so............ I put mayo and mustard on the ramen.

Normally I'd eat my mistakes.

Not that one. Two bites and I was done and into the trash it went. lol

My Nan was teaching me to bake when I was around that age. Everything was fine when she helped, but left to my own devices I would end up going off the rails and try to make up my own recipes to similar effects as these cupcakes lmao. I may have also caught some oven mitts on fire once or twice... I have survived well into adulthood and have a major love of baking nowadays. I like making all kinds of stuff for coworkers and family :)

Good on you for letting her try her own ideas! It's how you learn firsthand that stuff comes in ratios for a reason, and how much flexibility there is for various ingredients you may want to add, may not have on hand, etc. And even if you fail, it can still be a good time, especially with a friend. This will be a funny memory for life. Just don't let them slack on cleanup! 😂
