10 hours to explore Dallas

We had a flight from DFW which was delayed 24 hours. Our flight leaves at 11 pm tonight so we will need to be at the airport by 8ish. What are some quintessential Dallas/Texas things we can do today?
I’ve never been to Texas and my husband has only been to Austin so we’re blank slate when it comes to Dallas.

Hard Eight BBQ is very close to the airport and highly recommended for your bbq cravings.
Independent_Inside23@reddit
Stop recommending this tourist trap, that maybe was good 15 years back.
OP - don't go to Hard Eight for BBQ.

Apologies for offering an option convenient to the airport that could check a few of their boxes. Do you have any constructive feedback on where someone visiting the DFW airport can go for a quick meal?
Independent_Inside23@reddit
Hutchins in infinitely better, even though the one by the airport is a satellite.

Uber out to the Fort Worth Stockyards
Dex_and_Destruction@reddit
Just a thought but DFW airport is undergoing major construction so plan for traffic delays depending on how you exit/renter the airport.

Quintessential Dallas - go visit the sixth floor museum and grassy knoll. Get some good bbq or Mexican food
Quintessential Texas - go to Ft. Worth and the stockyards. Get some good bbq or Mexican food.
As you see the food options are non specific to where you go, just a must if you’re gonna be here

Depends on what you're into. The cutest neighborhood is Bishop Arts, which has restaurants and coffee, a neat bookstore, etc. Klyde Warren Park is neat, in downtown, and next to the Dallas Museum of Art. From the park, there's an old trolley you can hop on to see uptown (fancy part of town). Or you can do something historic like see the book depository where Kennedy was shot... I've lived here 40+ years and never been, but some say it's a well done tour/museum.

Dallas resident here and my mom and I did the whole JFK experience some years ago and it was really cool. Even went by the old Oswald apartment on Neely St in Bishop Arts.
We also did the Holocaust museum but was in the old location. I’ve really been wanting to check out the new museum.

Trains can take you downtown of both cities and other places. Downtowns are quiet on the weekends. Ft worth can get you to the train yard and then a free bus to Sundance Square for food and fun and then get back to the train and airport.
Dallas will dump you off in weird areas that you’re better if you know where to go from there.
I recommend Ft Worth.
There is no typical Texas experience. The most authentic thing would be Tex Mex because BBQ and steaks are everywhere, but “Mexican Food” is regional.

Ride DART from terminal A to the West End stop. Go see the Kennedy memorial, Dealey Plaza, and the Sixth Floor museum.
firebreathingmonkey7@reddit
I'd for a first visit maybe stockyards possibly ft.wortg zoo if your interested in that sort of thing. or klyde Warren, dallas art museum, and perot museum

Where are y’all staying? For “quintessential” Texas things, I personally think you might almost be better off going to Fort Worth and seeing the Stockyards, etc. There’s also some great bbq in/near Fort Worth. The Cowboys are thankfully away today so you won’t have to deal with quite as much traffic.
The weather is nice so there are definitely fun things you could do in Dallas (some great restaurants and patios you could check out, etc.), but I just kind of think you’d get more of a “Texas” experience doing some Fort Worth stuff, if that’s what you’re looking for.

100% go to Ft Worth Stockyards for this little exploration

Honeymoon? Try brunch at the Mansion https://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/mansion-on-turtle-creek-dallas/dining/mansion-restaurant and combine with the other downtown area Dallas suggestions.

That “FW” on “DFW” is actually a city, and will provide more of a Texan experience. It has a subreddit too: r/fortworth.
There’s a train that’ll take you from the airport: https://ridetrinitymetro.org/texrail-schedule/
Illustrious_Smell375@reddit
Keep it within downtown dallas and maybe bishop arts (a close-ish uber) as many are saying here. Do not take a train to/from the airport.
cramothmasterson@reddit
Fort Worth Stockyards.
ACG3185@reddit
The 6th Floor Museum. The DART train will get you within walking distance from it if you catch it at the airport.
Visible_Income1825@reddit
It's the museum capital of tx , look at the art and science museums. Theres a samurai exhibit, that's free ,downtown. Id base it around food and drinks, one or two museums and get to the airport and go to sleep on the flight.

Bird’s Bookstore on Preston and Royal! Incredible place. Grab a coffee and explore
julianriv@reddit
Not as iconic as the Stockyards or Sixth Floor, but Hard 8 BBQ in Coppell is close to the airport and downtown Grapevine is cool. Also Gaylord Texan is close by. All those are less than 15 minutes from DFW.
Autumnfalcon1@reddit
Fort Worth stockyards are what most people would consider “quintessential” in terms of livestock, cowboy culture, etc. Dallas and Fort Worth are about 45 min from each other so if you don’t have a car it would be worth considering which city you want to spend time in. The site of the Kennedy assassination if you’re a history buff. grapevine isn’t Dallas but it’s also not too far from DFW and you have meow wolf if you like trippy art, as well as shopping. Arlington has all the sports teams and as you can see, these are all sorta spread out unfortunately. Are you trying to stay in a specific area or a certain type of vibe you want to hit?
MBL48@reddit (OP)
We don’t have a specific area in mind but we will be ubering everywhere including back to the airport so we don’t want to jump around too much or be more than 30ish minutes from the airport
chrissmokesss@reddit
Take the train, orange line from the airport drops you off smack dab in downtown Dallas, you can ride it back to the airport as well. All you need is a day pass and to give your self about an hour and a half leeway time on your way back
BrokenDJDreams@reddit
So, dfw airport isn’t really “close” to anything, but if you pick a side (Dallas/ftworth) you can get a lot of sights in and a few meals that are worth it…Dallas- if you are into history at all you can go downtown to the old school book depository and see where JFK was killed… there are a ton of art murals and good restaurants in the deep ellum area that is a few miles away from there, a huge nightlife place for the metroplex, and a ton of music history is there… while in the area you aren’t far from the bishop arts district (oak cliff) which is always worth a look… Ft Worth- I’m not as familiar with ft worth, but I do know they have a huge downtown plaza and a lot of amenities around downtown, the stockyards are on that side but idk what they have going on, either way though I feel like if you just get in a taxi or uber and go, you’ll have a good time. Just be safe, keep your eyes open and have fun.
AbueloOdin@reddit
If you want "Big City" Dallas, go to downtown Dallas. Grab some Starship Bagels, see the eye, take the free trolley (donations welcome) up to Klyde Warren and visit the Dallas Museum of Art.
If you want "Old West", go to the Fort Worth Stockyards.
im-buster@reddit
You can go up 'The Ball' ( aka Reunion Tower) downtown and visit the JFK 6th floor museum.
oktodls12@reddit
For first timers, some GOOD Texas BBQ (search this sub to get ideas of where to go.)
If you end coming to Dallas, the Sixth Floor Museum and/or the Grassy Knoll are usually the first things our friends and family that are new to Dallas check out.
