Why do certain types of whales have lumps on them????

Humpbacks are probably the lumpiest, they have those bumps on their nose I think those are hair follicles
And the whales that get barnacles I guess those counts as lumps, Bowhead, Northern and Southern Right, and humpbacks (again)

The tubercules on a humpback whale’s rostrum are indeed hair follicles
As for the right whales, the lumps on their heads are called callosities, which are just rough and keratinised patches of skin, and bowhead whales don’t have them
