nationwide stimulant shortage issues— what pharmacy do you use?

currently adderall IR is on back order at Walgreens and they have no idea when they will get any, what pharmacies never let you down nationwide shortage wise? Considering switching to a local pharmacy, but i’ve always just waited it out with Walgreens because switching and calling all over always seemed like such a pain.

I’m prescribed Adderall IR/XR (generic) - CVS hasn’t been an issue for me! Last month was the first time in two years where I had to transfer the prescription to a nearby CVS who had it on stock. I had no problem refilling it again a few days ago. I live by Medical District!

There’s a guy on Harry Hines next to the world plaza that has a small store with tints and no signs. It’s got brown stucco and looks like an empty/abandoned store. There is a ring doorbell that is held with duct tape. Ring that bell and ask for Sam.

I hear you, but calling all around WORKS in my experience. And I need the medication to function.

ughhh no i know you’re right!!! i’ll start calling around tysm for the help!

Yup it’s p much the only way to go about it even though it’s super time consuming sometimes. Just keep saying “representative”, and when ya get them on the line go right into it with “I’m calling to see if you have a certain medication in stock” and they will ask you your dosage. Make sure to specify if you’re looking for the generic also.

That’s a great call out and I’ll add to that, sometimes they have 15s but not 30s. If your script is for 30s, your doctor can re-write it as 2 x 15s. That allows you to get what’s available.
I’ve also had to settle for a lower dose than my script before because that’s what was available and it’s better than nothing, but again, that all has to go through your doctor.

I’m sorry. It is particularly frustrating to have ADHD executive disfunction making it hard to do the thing you need to do to…help you overcome the ADHD executive disfunction.

A stimulant prescription is usually paper, at least as I understand it. Mine have always been paper. This means that you don’t have to transfer the electronic information. If you find a local pharmacy with stock you can just take your paper script there.
As a side note, and likely less helpful, Allen family pharmacy has always had mine in stock. That may be farther than you want to drive.
lostnthenet@reddit
They are able to do e-scripts for controlled substances for a while now.
Weird_Bite1308@reddit
This is true unless its a C4 or C3 i think but i know for any C2 meds it has to be e-scribed UNLESS the dr has a wavier with the pharmacy board.
dddonnanoble@reddit
It’s actually opposite. They only can be electronic prescriptions now. No paper.
babyoatmeals@reddit (OP)
oh wow— i don’t think i’ve had a prescription of mine written on paper in YEARS that’s so fascinating. In fact with C2 meds I feel like docs are even more hardcore about it as they call it in to the pharmacy themselves in my experience, since there’s more risk prob to giving the paper script directly to the patient. Super interesting to hear your experience! Thank you :)
SentimentalSaladBowl@reddit
Mine also calls it in, I haven’t had an in person visit since before Covid, so paper isn’t even really an option.

Kroger in melissa TX can normally get them in pretty fast! same with the HEB. Would recommend trying both!

I once had to call 34 pharmacies to find a refill 😫 it’s brutal. Unfortunately I have to gatekeep the only one that’s been relatively consistent for me bc I’m so scared to go through that again, but I deeply empathize. I will say it’s actually better lately than it has been the previous year and a half or so. It sucks

Most pharmacies can see the inventory of stores close to them. You really only need to reach out to 1 Walgreens, 1 Kroger pharmacy, etc. First, due to legalities, your question to them should be "Can you fill a script for ___" not "do you have". It's a technicality but you'll find a lot say they can't tell you "if they have" but can tell you if they can fill your script. Stupid. They may not be able to tell you that a store on the other side of the metroplex has the medication but all within 10-15 miles.
