Whale milk is nearly 50% fat and so thick it barely mixes with water, letting calves drink straight from the ocean.

Cool. This is actually the first time I have seen an image of a whale nursing its young. Lots of examples of mothers with their young doing various other things, somehow never came across this. For some reason people don't like to talk about cetacean lactation, outside of that as mammals it happens.

It's an AI generated image.

shrugs Still odd that, for all the media exposure they get, people don't talk about. Gotten commentary on seal and polar bear milk, among others, over the years. I don't really care if it is a picture versus and image. It is a specific topic that I was commenting on how I hadn't really seen it discussed much.

We all need to take a stand against generative AI, given how unethical it is.

AI generated media is its own can of worms. It will never and should never be a substitute for something created by an actual human being. I have seen a lot of speculative images over the years. Whale lactation is a very specific niche subject. Finding a picture would take some effort looks through some very targeted data bases, and would still not likely come of with much. For someone lacking the artistic talent or time it is not that hard to see using a quick bit of media produced for a single post on the internet. If it was a publication or someone trying to sell something, I would have an issue. Otherwise, I can't find much ire, personally. Someone is sharing a fun fact in a community dedicated to related topics. Just because the internet is known for vicious responses doesn't mean you have to contribute to the issue. If yoi have an issue with implementation, Constructive Criticism, so someone can do better.

This post was made by a karma-farming bot, not by an actual person.

Ok? If you think the account was created by a person/people in an attempt to shamelessly grab maximum attention, you are entitled to believe so, and may even correct. I don't know, and don't care to spend the day combing through an account's list of posts to analyze their intentions. If you don't like something, you always have to option to turn it off. I just wanted to have an informative discussion about a topic that I had encountered little information on, whale lactation, that I find interesting. Didn't really want to have an indepth nuanced conversation on the subject of AI with the related ethics, morality, and complicated social ramifications.

Just make your own post about whale lactation, dude. You'd probably get a good amount of interest given the sub.

Fair point. If I don't see any meaningful information on this post, I may just do that. Then try to cross post it on the marine biology subreddit.
