If you’re flying out of DFW this AM you might face some delays 😂 get in line!

See you on the other side Dallas! ❤️

Would have rather waited in this line than the line of cars at the tollgate this morning just trying to get into the airport. Took a half hour to get from the airport entrance to a parking spot in terminal A. Yeehaw.
StarWarsPlusDrWho@reddit
As much as I love DFW (the airport) they definitely are the longest taxi time of any airport I’ve been in or out of in the last 5 years or so.
HS_VA@reddit
The alternative would be getting off further from the gates and taking those buses that a lot of airports use to get people to the gates. My main airport used to be IAD (Dulles, VA) and they use those. I remember several times we had to wait to board one because one bus couldn’t fit everyone from the flight. As annoying the long taxying can be, I prefer it over taking a bus.
playballer@reddit
I don’t think that’s the only alternative. Had we designed the runways and terminals differently they could be closer to each other. We literally taxi planes across bridges to cross the highway because we put the strip on the other side of the road. These were choices.

Dulles even has the awful people movers to move between one set of terminals. Insane how much better DFW is, I couldn't stand Dulles. What drove me crazy is that flying United, which has Dulles as one of its biggest hubs, I always got stuck having to use the people mover. Why wasn't united getting the terminals connected by the train?? Pissed me off lol
Jessamineg@reddit
This was me on Thursday, and in a medical boot for a foot fracture. Casually 20 minutes to get from Terminal C to Z between escalators, people movers, train, and walking. THIS IS NOT A BIG AIRPORT, WHY.
Flying into DFW tomorrow, wish me luck.
jarjar995@reddit
I can barely imagine how hard air travel must be in a medical boot! Sincerely hoping you get every consideration and assistance as you go. But for what it's worth, DFW truly IS big— among the biggest in the world. Its 26 square mile footprint is bigger than the island of Manhattan. Among US airports, only Denver’s is bigger, at 35 sq mi. By many accounts, the world’s busiest airport is Atlanta ATL. DFW contends with Los Angeles LAX and Chicago ORD for second, third and fourth busiest US airport. (There are various yardsticks).
Jessamineg@reddit
Oof, well, I'm flying through ATL, so we'll see how it goes. I try not to squeeze my layovers too much, but I always breathe a sigh of relief when I fly through an unfamiliar airport and actually find my gate with plenty of time.
Downside of a boot is definitely how much slower I move and the extra TSA time, because I'll get pulled aside for additional screening. On the bright side, it's not too painful with the pressure dissipation the boot provides, and I can medically pre-board, which gives me time to wrestle with my items in the tight space and make sure I have overhead room. Might even beg a ride through the airport, you never know!
Any pointers?

I encountered this in Frankfurt last year, had no idea American airports did this. Never seen it here!
aurorasearching@reddit
One of the last times I landed in DFW, from wheels down to getting in the uber was over an hour, and all I had was a backpack, no checked bag, and we didn’t even have to wait for a gate.
notinaweirdwayy@reddit
One of my favorite random facts: DFW is larger than the island of Manhattan (NYC).
StarWarsPlusDrWho@reddit
Yeah, it takes a while to call an Uber even, because the airport’s so darn big.

As much as I love DFW (the airport) they definitely are the longest taxi time of any airport I’ve been in or out of in the last 40 years or so.
Lokaji@reddit
I've been in a similar line flying out of Vegas.
StarWarsPlusDrWho@reddit
I transferred through Vegas a couple months ago and it didn’t seem that bad… then again I’ve heard the economy is slow there this year.
Lokaji@reddit
This was a few years ago. That airport has less runways in general, so that was probably the issue.
leostotch@reddit
Seriously sometimes you wind up taxiing further than you flew
britishmetric144@reddit
Wait until you hear about the Polderbaan at EHAM. :)
EmotionalSupportDoll@reddit
I was going to say Istanbul as another one
leostotch@reddit
Well now that’s just silly
bermesofficial@reddit
Where the hell y'all flying to?
totallynotfromennis@reddit
You'd think seven frickin' runways would be enough to keep this from being a problem
TRH100@reddit
They may have a personnel problem in air traffic control.
Panaka@reddit
Staffing is a problem, but departure gate capacity due to the inbound weather impacting half the dep gates is the real problem in this picture.
Yarusenai@reddit
Im glad I'm not flying back into DFW until tomorrow afternoon lol
Stunning-Parsnip-886@reddit
Aged like milk lol… as my airport just caught 5 diverts.
nbd9000@reddit
the line goes out that far.
Yarusenai@reddit
fuck
Rbforward@reddit
I am in one of those….
BecauseBatman01@reddit
They are doing a huge construction project so makes sense. Will hopefully be better once it’s complete.

Planes can't depart until their destination airport weather is acceptable to land in at the expected arrival time, and all of their planned alternate airports are also available. When pilots file a flight plan, which they must do for every flight, that plan includes alternate airport options in case of problems such as their destination airport unexpectedly closing for any reason, including weather, crashes, tower outages, etc. Alternates are also chosen in case of in-flight emergencies such as an engine failure, passenger medical emergency, etc. If the forecasts for the alternate airports indicate one or more of those may be closed as well then the flight doesn't take off.
They also can't just choose more alternate airports after the fact because their fuel calculations and thus the amount of fuel they order loaded onto the plane typically wouldn't be enough. They order enough fuel for a certain amount of hold time at the destination, the ability to reach any of their alternates after holding, and some reserve. The reason they don't just fill the fuel tanks all the way up is because that would most likely put their weight, including pax and cargo, over the MTOW for the plane. Even if they didn't, they'd be burning more fuel just to fly that extra fuel around the sky, raising costs and increasing wear and tear on the engines.
kahlandra@reddit
thanks for further explaining this. i was supposed to arrive from lga yesterday evening and my flight was delayed to this morning. i knew it was weather related, but i can see how that line would affect alternate options as well.
drummybear67@reddit
The new terminal has nothing to do with the runways, completely separate from a iation traffic
DFW always has long taxi lines
B1G_D11CK_R111CK_69@reddit
It has nothing to do with construction. The weather over East Texas and Louisiana is causing the delays. ATC must increase spacing for all departures from DFW and DAL.
b3542@reddit
Gives new meaning to “line up and wait”…
trugbee1203@reddit
I believe it’s “hurry up and wait” but lol
EmotionalSupportDoll@reddit
"Line up and wait" is a common air traffic control command
trugbee1203@reddit
Oh interesting, never knew that hah
b3542@reddit
Yep, it means “line up in position on the runway and await takeoff clearance.”
detox02@reddit
That’s insane
DustPalacePapa@reddit
This is normal
Intelligent-Read-785@reddit
Looks normal “complex “ time most days.
goldsheep29@reddit
My mother in law has been in this situation a few times and says "well I've landed in Oklahoma this time" anytime there's a line.

I literally flew out last night around 8pm right before the bad weather hit. The flight crew said we barely missed the bad weather.
