In my pub days we'd sometimes play Scrabble or backgammon. We were getting into Eurotrash games at the time but recognised that in that environment you didn't want complexity and loads of pieces to sort out.

Yes. In the past I've filled my car with games (as have others) and done semi-closed events at the pub for about 60 people with a shut in over a weekend. Others I know run open events weekly or bi-weekly. Although no one is playing Snap or Battleships really that I know. Most people are playing more modern boardgames, or stuff like poker.

Yep. I meet with friends every week to play in a club in central Leeds. We gave up on the one round the corner because it was full of students playing board games noisily

There are board game pubs and cafes too. With libraries full of "specialist" board games (ticket to ride, catan, blood of the clock tower, thunder road etc). You pay for tables by the hour and order drinks. Very popular. We have at least 4 in Birmingham.

Most pubs have board games and cards for people to play. The places around here have various leagues throughout the winter, teams from each pub playing chess, draughts, 500 etc.

Yes. Not sure how common it is, but I'm part of a group that regularly meets in a pub to play board games. I don't drink either, and don't go to the pub very often excluding to play board games

I am surprised more pubs don't have a bunch of old games in. Seems a nice, easy way to get in a few more punters. If my local had a bunch of games, I might nip in more often. Nothing to do on an afternoon, let's go and have a game of kerplunk and a drink.

some pubs have their own games. I remember being in Hull with my mum and brother and as it was pissing it down, spending a nice evening in the Minerva drinking a few ciders and playing the games they had on a shelf.

Not very common but not unheard of either. Dominoes tend to be popular. Pubs (actual pubs) are pretty communal and although typically you would have a drink, it is not just a place for drinking.

Back when I was at college, as a wee underage drinker, I always carried a pack of cards to bust out for a game of Switch. It was a great ice-breaker with older folks, particularly arguing about the rules. A lot of local pubs have board games available, but I’ve seen groups bust out decent tabletop RPGs once in a while at bars. I’ve never seen anyone bring their own Battleships though - perhaps a misunderstanding of ByoB?
