Adelsons (majority owners of Dallas Mavericks) are funding the East Wing destruction and proposed ballroom

Link above, for anyone who is interested. I am not surprised but completely disgusted.
DookieMcDookface@reddit
Damn… can they just move the Mavs to Vegas now and be done with it?
vinhluanluu@reddit
Nah, they’re going to move Vegas to Dallas.
nesguy1@reddit
I don’t think Texas will ever allow casinos
nazerall@reddit
The Adelson are buying influence with Trump with the White House deatruction donations.
Daddy Trump tells Texas to legalize gambling and they will fall in line.
The Adelson's didn't buy the Mavs or donate to Trump with just a hope and a prayer.
Luka_Dunks_on_Bums@reddit
I think you underestimate how much Dan Patrick hates gambling
duncandreizehen@reddit
Dan Patrick from Baltimore won’t live forever. The Adelson’s terrible people. Maybe it’s all that winning DNA.
nazerall@reddit
I'm not quite sure where Dan Patrick falls in the GOP hierarchy.
But we know greed rules all.
TacosNGuns@reddit
In Texas, the Lieutenant Governor is the most powerful elected official in the state. The governor is mostly a figurehead. The Texas Governor’s power is among the weakest in the US.
forbiddenfreak@reddit
Why then was Abbott able to veto the THC ban overriding what Patrick demanded? Seems like he has some power.
TacosNGuns@reddit
House & Senate can override. They simply don’t have the votes.
nazerall@reddit
And yet the Republicans all across the country still fall in line and defend everything stupid thing that comes out of Trump's mouth.
So does it really matter what Dan Patrick wants? When Trump says jump they'll all jump.
azwethinkweizm@reddit
The Lieutenant Gov is the most powerful political figure in Texas. Sure he can't sign/veto bills but he sets the legislative agenda in the Senate. Even if every senator wants ABC issue to go through, if he says no then it won't get heard.
BearstromWanderer@reddit
Lt Gov is the most powerful position in Texas. Governer has veto and executive functions, but the Lt Gov position run what actually comes out of the legislative branch.
Drewskeet@reddit
Dan Patrick owns Texas and he's owned by Dunn and Wilks who hate gambling.
Hypeman747@reddit
lol he’s supposed to hate adultery as well. He will fall in line
McRocketpants@reddit
And pedophilia...
SpecialComfortable71@reddit
He also hates cbd. He is losing that battle.
djwurm@reddit
sitting here sipping on a THC Seltzer and hoping he never gets it thru.. we know he will continue to try until either he is dead or it passes.
SpecialComfortable71@reddit
Those drinks are awesome! No hangover. No or low calories. Cheaper compared to alcohol.
rat_penis@reddit
Dannie Goeb is just the carpetbagging mouth piece for Wilkes and Dunn
datdouche@reddit
Dan’s getting kind of old. The Adelsons could always fund an opponent too.
TacosNGuns@reddit
Patrick has no morals. Those morality based positions are strictly pandering to the born again & Christian Nationalists. He’s not a believer.
SadatayAllDamnDay@reddit
They lost.
heff1685@reddit
You don't think the casinos in both Louisiana and Oklahoma don't have fuck you money also and have deeper ties with Texas legislatures if playing that game?
People have been trying to get gambling legalized in Texas for 30+ years, it just failed yet another vote last year.
nazerall@reddit
I dont think Louisiana and Oklahoma don't have the population or influence thet Texas does.
And we've already seen this administration is pay for play. And the Adelson's are paying and playing.
You actually think they dont have strong political ties and have some sort of assurances on legalizing gambling in Texas? You think they bought the Mavs and donated to the White Hous destruction without knowing they will make good on their investments?
heff1685@reddit
You don't think the industries that would directly be impacted by the approval of gambling in Texas that have been around forever don't have the same level of influence? What does their population matter when a large percentage of their patrons are Texans so would have a lot to lose with gambling being approved.
They are making good on their investment by owning a sports franchise. They might have overplayed their hand thinking it was a done deal without understanding the politics in Texas around gambling. They literally had a vote in February which was after the Adelson's bought the Mavs, the vote had less support than it did in 2023.
Trump doesn't give a fuck about politics within the state of Texas.
MahaloLola43@reddit
Everything we think wouldn’t happen or shouldn’t happen now needs to be asked how many people and how much money would it cost to make it so… Never allow is long gone along with the right thing to do!
blacksystembbq@reddit
As much as I don’t like the Adelsons, I wouldn’t mind a casino in Dallas. People are always complaining about nothing to do in Dallas and boring, at least a casino would bring more entertainment options. They usually have nice concerts/shows and shit like that.
wonderman911@reddit
lol youre funny. Gambling is taking over so many sports. Texas isnt going to miss out on that revenue.
TacosNGuns@reddit
Paxton, Abbot, Patrick and Company don’t have any morals. They will take the Adelson’s sin tainted money when the pot gets rich enough.
Jameszhang73@reddit
Anything is possible if the price is right
rat_penis@reddit
They're gonna need to get a waiver from Wilkes and Dunn for anything that happens in their fief. Those dominionists arent letting any kind of sin like gambling in the state.
Luka_Dunks_on_Bums@reddit
The problem is that they don’t own any property in Vegas. They only operate casinos in Macau.
DookieMcDookface@reddit
The Macau Mavericks has a nice ring to it
tenebre@reddit
This monstrosity is almost TWICE the size of the main White House building. It's absolutely ridiculous.
Red_RingRico@reddit
Kinda starting to feel like we’re the French peasants and he’s Louis XIV
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
Yeah I just discovered that this morning and I was stunned. Nothing should be shocking anymore with this POS in the WH but still I was stunned. Someone has filed a lawsuit to stop the destruction and ballroom being built.
I have heard people say "Oh a lot of Presidents have modified the WH in the past". But not like this. Not this sudden, not this dramatic, and they have completely bypassed the process that is supposed to take place before just tearing stuff down. It's blatantly illegal. Not that that matters anymore.
yungmwp@reddit
Could you share what laws have been broken that make this illegal? Not trying to be snarky, but genuinely curious what laws protect this type of thing from happening normally.
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
You could read up on the lawsuit filed to halt the process. The White House is part of our National Park system.
Puskarich@reddit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Historic_Landmark
noncongruent@reddit
The destruction is done, the East Wing and Colonnade are gone. It's all been crushed up and sent to a landfill to ensure that no part of it could ever be restored from the remnants.
judy2016@reddit
I wish I could literally place shame into these people’s hearts
ohwemadeamistake@reddit
Isn’t she a huge Zionist to?
Vaneza19@reddit
Can the Adelsons just sell the team ?
Barfignugen@reddit
Welp. Never going to a Mavs game or buying any merch ever again. This fucking sucks. I hate it here.
jeremysbrain@reddit
This is how she paid for her presidential medal of freedom
Furrealyo@reddit
Make sure you review the list of ~40 donators and express your opinion with your wallet. Anything less is pure hypocrisy.
Apple, Meta, Google, Amazon, Comcast, T Mobile…
Recreational_Pissing@reddit
It's tiresome how many organizations & companies are falling in line with this. Full list, to save people a search:
Pfacejones@reddit
Where am I supposed to buy a laptop from
y6x@reddit
Goodwill or similar?
Substantial-Part-700@reddit
I’m amazed Oracle and Larry Ellison aren’t anywhere near this, given the other tech companies in this list.
Recreational_Pissing@reddit
I don't trust the current "administration" to have actually provided the full list, or that others won't join in in due time. I gotta start learning about Linux... at least some of these are easily avoidable.
tenebre@reddit
Much easier to say than to do. Reddit runs extensively on Amazon AWS so you're literally using Amazon right now.
Hypeman747@reddit
lol your cellphone is prob either on iOS or Android as well. The list goes on and on.
Furrealyo@reddit
Yup. Effecting change is HARD, so no one reading this will actually do anything meaningful about it.
pacochalk@reddit
*donors
Furrealyo@reddit
Both are correct.
Far0nWoods@reddit
They’re funding WHAT now?
y6x@reddit
They're funding doing what the fourth plane wasn't able to back in 2001.
y6x@reddit
She donated a large amount to his campaign, and Trump thanked her during the speech he made in Israel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHWxJHjlBW0
On a tangent, this was especially interesting as she apparently cut off contact with Netanyahu and his wife in part because they demanded what amounts to bribes from her.
So Netanyahu is too corrupt for her tastes, but Trump isn't yet.
FuckJoeBiden86@reddit
The outrage at every single thing trump does is comical to me. Win an election if you don’t like it
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
Username checks out. I suspect you also believe 2020 was "stolen". LOL.
CatteNappe@reddit
Adelsons don't particularly care about the ballroom, or whether the East Wing was torn down or not. Their purpose is to help their buddy Donald. If he wanted to rebuild the East Wing back exactly as it was and asked for contributions, they'd probably sign up for that, too.
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
There is no part of the Whitehouse with more interesting and foundational history than the **checks notes**—the East Wing.
My outrage is limitless!
Even the recent NYT articles about the East Wing can't find interesting and consequential facts about it.
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
Yeah I'm sure you would have the same view if a Democrat were in the office and tearing down part of the WH without going through the proper channels, and adding a self aggrandizing ballroom, almost twice the size of the White House......
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
Honestly, I don't really care who does it.
The reality is, I wanted to be concerned, so I looked for the treasured history of the East Wing but didn't find it. And to respond to your comment about proper channels, I'm not sure I've read in any of the NYT, WPO, or WSJ articles what the "proper" channels that were missed were.
I have Trump outrage fatigue. When the internet, Reddit, and IRL are outraged over everything the man does, it desensitizes normal people to all the outrage. I'd suggest you focus on a few things that matter.
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
The reason there is so much outrage is because there is so much to be outraged about. It's just a constant barrage. This is not hyperbole.
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
Totally hyperbole.
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
Are you a bot? The entire White House has historical significance. All of it. We don't just tear it down without thought and consideration.
Keep_Plano_Corporate@reddit
Yes, I'm a bot.
Can you tell me more about the East Wing's historical significance? Most of what I could find said it housed the First Lady's office currently or at one point. It sounds like there's a great bunker below it.
Of the three sections of the White House, the East Wing is clearly the least significant. Hell, Republicans were mad at FDR when he built the current structure. So, it appears anger over structural changes to the White House is bipartisan.
AcceptableProduce296@reddit
They should be happy. The Whitehouse was built with slave labor. But I guess it cancels out when the guy ripping down our horrible past is "Hitler" I cant keep up with this crap. Can we start a new party?
noncongruent@reddit
The East Wing and Colonnade was built starting in the early 1900s, forty years after slavery ended in this country. Every single person that worked on constructing it was a free man or woman being paid for their labor, and back then pay for manual labor was higher relative to inflation than it is now.
ilovesoccer0609@reddit
0 regrets jumping ship in February. Never looking back.
Metalt_@reddit
when do we start... ya know..
katie4@reddit
It’s getting easier and easier to never watch the Mavs again
dednotsleeping@reddit
Adelsons are a scourge on America
PureTank0@reddit
Fuck the Adelsons.
Also, as always, #FUCKNICO
r1mbaud@reddit
No they’re not, the American taxpayers are. This is just a cover for more tax credits that donny diapers owed her husband.
EricTheTexan@reddit
Sounds like she doesn’t need handouts from the city for a new arena.
Nutty4Natives@reddit
She’s gonna help fund the new ballroom (prob really a fortress/bunker) and absolutely grift somewhere in the metroplex to build a new arena from taxes. Trumps gonna sue the DOJ for Jan 6 to build his new fortress, so he’s harder to remove next time. It’s amazing there’s still people who can’t see the con happening from these oligarchs.
Odd_Variation_701@reddit
Horrible people that ruin everything for everyone.
JazzlikeWishbone4579@reddit
they are such cartoonish villains. probably one of the most evil billionaires that exist today.
Nutty4Natives@reddit
Also funding the primary against republican Thomas Massie to keep the Trump-Stein Files hidden. Still can't believe Cuban sold his team to these people.
nickgomez@reddit
I mean he had one of the real sons as an intern at some point before he sold. Still so weird. Didn’t shop the team at all
Da_Malpais_Legate@reddit
Because if/when gambling is legalized here, he’s gonna get some sort of side deal of money from the casinos
bigyittiezz@reddit
Seriously! Cuban was acting so flabbergasted at this trade after all the promises he made to Luka but it was his fault that he sold them to these people in the first place.
vldz90@reddit
Why are you disgusted?
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
If you don't get it by now it's not worth even discussing.
bringdablitz@reddit
The Adelsons are total scumbags. Fuck Nico. I support the players on the court and that's it. The Mavs will get 0 dollars from me as long as Nico and those dipshits are in charge.
10Core56@reddit
I am sure they will be super careful with the mavs and the fan base, right?
RIGHT?
psellers237@reddit
Just the way they’re acting, you know they believe the fan base is full of enough suckers they can do whatever they want.
10Core56@reddit
Whaaaat?
PM_ME_UR_RESPECT@reddit
I’ve said it since the night of the Luka trade: This organization doesn’t get a dime of my money in any form until Nico and the Adelson family are gone.
jaydee288@reddit
Just be thankful its not being funded with your tax dollars
HiFiMarine@reddit
You know you can’t say anything here that makes sense….
tturedditor@reddit (OP)
Absolutely terrible take.
u2aerofan@reddit
You’re kidding, right?
Berserker76@reddit
But you realize that is worse right? These billionaires and corporations are not donating money out of the kindness of their heart, it buys them access, buys them policy input, policy decisions and protects themselves and their interests.
This is extortion and corruption at the highest levels in our government.
tenebre@reddit
It will be though. Trump has said he's paying a lot of the $250 million out of his own pocket while, completely coincidentally, announcing he's pursuing a $230 million settlement to him from the DOJ which will be approved by people who used to be his personal attorneys. It's just another in a long line of outright grifts and MAGA doesn't give a shit.
Important_Power_2148@reddit
Throne room, not ballroom. He is building a throne room.
Musicftw89@reddit
Fuck those pieces of shit. Also FUCK NICO HARRISON
hewasphone@reddit
I honestly do not care about that. There’s bigger issues.
Da_Malpais_Legate@reddit
There’s a reason why even before Luka got traded that I hated our new owners a lot
bigyittiezz@reddit
Adelson is also why we lost Luka to the Lakers.
Tau_Prions@reddit
The ole White House ballroom for the West Bank swap.
NoCoversJustBooks@reddit
And the winner of the 2024-2025 douchebag billionaire of the year award goes to….
