“Your shoulder and back pain are not service related”

I don't really see the point of that. It's a single use shoulder fired rocket launcher that with all that stuff added makes it....a single use shoulder fired rocket launcher. Only now once it's fired you can't do anything else because you couldn't carry a pack, etc.

Except this isn't a "one and done" weapon like a LAW or AT-4. It's the ROK version of the javelin, the AT-1K Raybolt - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT-1K_Raybolt. Theoretically it could be reloaded and served by the assistant gunner off the operator's back like some kind of weird mecha-warrior. The image is kinda silly though, since they don't show the OLU (the sighting / target designator) required for operation. That thing alone is bulky, heavy, and delicate. So basically, this is a javelin strapped to someone's back, but without the crap to make it work. Very much conceptual design to demonstrate potential load carrying capabilities and to look cool for marketing.

There's also a \[[Wrist Missile](https://www.reddit.com/r/ForgottenWeapons/comments/1o7z5yn/micro_smart_ammunition_aka_wrist_missile_its_look/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)\], but it seems better than that.

Watch out for those wrist rockets!
View on Reddit #69434501

EvMund@reddit

I think they missed a trick here. The firer of the rocket needs to be able to freely maneuver it to a low position with better cover or out a window to get better angles. making the shoulder a mounting point just limits the flexibility of the weapon system. It seems it would be much more useful to mount a rack of rockets on an exoskeleton-equipped soldier, to allow his squadmates to pull one from his back to use when necessary.

mattumbo@reddit

And forget the rocket launcher, better off strapping a bunch of Switchblade drone launchers to it as they don’t need to be aimed themselves and could be controlled by either the wearer or even another person via datalink so the wearer can focus on the small arms part of the firefight while still providing anti-tank and bunker busting capability. That’s the real money making idea, the more drones you can strap to light infantry the better as they’re going to be a necessary force multiplier going forward.
View on Reddit #69423735

EvMund@reddit

Well definitely but we were on the topic of rocket launchers and exoskeletons. Drones for sure though. I'm honestly surprised there havent been autonomous ground drone motherships, basically an M113 or something made to be unmanned and stuffed to the gills with drone bays

Babelfiisk@reddit

That's why you pair it with a Bradley with a fast firing autocannon or rotary gun. Stick a small radar on there, fill the troop compartment with ammo and a gunners station.

Idk, maybe reload it? Isn’t that how weapons systems work? I’d wager you can remove the empty tube, and get this right, put a new one there.
View on Reddit #69405734

KingofSkies@reddit

A lot of shoulder fired rockets are single use. Fire the rocket, dispose of the tube.
View on Reddit #69409665

Clean-Novel-5746@reddit

Yes, but this is a mounting SYSTEM for the single use rocket, you don’t through away the whole ass exoskeleton because you fired the one shot. There are systems used on the back of humvees that take FIM-92 stingers, the whole launcher, once fired they pull the tubes out (the entire launcher) and put fresh ones in. That’s what I meant, I understand the concept of a single use launcher, they’ve been making them since the 40’s with the panzerfaust. My point is the comment was stupid because it’s not considering the fact you can pull the old tube off and put a new launcher there ready to fire again.

anonyym1@reddit

So what is the point? This guy gets to walk around with his exoskeleton, and some sherpa walks next to him carrying 5 more with his back?
View on Reddit #69424461

Clean-Novel-5746@reddit

Ever heard of a mule? The new unmanned vehicles they’re developing for that exact reason. What do you think people have been doing for a hundred years anyway? Someone has to lug the ammo, look at machine gun TEAMS. Gunner, assistant gunner, ammo bearer. So yes, someone’s gonna have to carry the extra, as they always have, but not for much longer. https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/your-marine-corps/2024/02/14/marines-test-robotic-mule-that-could-carry-weapons-sensors/ https://asc.army.mil/docs/pubs/alt/2008/2_AprMayJun/articles/27_Multifunctional_Utility-Logistics_and_Equipment_(MULE)_Vehicle_Will_Improve_Soldier_Mobility,_Survivability_and_Lethality_200804.pdf
View on Reddit #69424629

anonyym1@reddit

So what problem is this fixing, if we are perfectly able to carry the missiles?
View on Reddit #69424711

Clean-Novel-5746@reddit

Have you ever carried one? Spoken like someone who ahasnt had to carry their house on their back, the rifle, it’s ammo, your water, and every other piece of gear on top of that. But we’re perfectly fine adding an additional 5-10 kilo on top of the 35kg+ you’re ALREADY carrying.

Presumably the exoskeleton would still serve its load-carrying function even without the missile. These images don't show us the back of it, but I bet there is a way to stick a ruck on it somehow.
View on Reddit #69419113

greet_the_sun@reddit

The feature you're missing out on is that I'd they throw away the whole exoskeleton after firing one missile then this company can sell a lot more exoskeletons.
View on Reddit #69403190

wiz555@reddit

More of a demo statement on what that companies exoskeleton it capable off. You see this kind of stuff a defense conferences all the time, strapping all kinds of stuff to everything in hopes that someone wants to throw money at them to dev it further.
View on Reddit #69402317

kenhooligan2008@reddit

Honestly right on with your assessment. If they did it with something similar to the Goose I could maybe see a use case for it but you'd still need a team to load/reload, and hump rounds( and the Goose isn't that heavy that'd you'd need something like this to begin with). Also....RLTW!!!! <2>

View on Reddit #69401314

AccidentAcrobatic431@reddit

This is a very niche system but its pretty useful, it allows you to basically have a rocket ready at a moment's notice, but also a sling could achieve the same result so I'm not sure it's worth increasing the cost from fabric to a hydraulic system or whatever this uses.

First Wrist-Missles, now Exoskeletons with shoulder-mounted missles. I get the feeling that someone in South Korea's MIC R&D has found some of the better Anmies and Mangas from the 80s and 90s. I'm not sure if this should make me feel exited or concerned...

View on Reddit #69405786

tlawrey20@reddit

These aren’t really problems though. At least, not ones that are really solved by this system. You still have to grip it, and aim it, and it still weighs the same amount. I assume this rig has dampeners for the weight to make it less noticeable. But that weight still exists.
