You are NOT buying another boat

... is what my wife said on a walk, and my neighbor for whatever reason has a 40 pound CQR as yard art.
She's like no, and I said "coming from someone who has an entire room in the house dedicated to your hobbies..."

You got served divorce papers I guess. Doesn't matter, tell us... what is your new boat like?
Rednmrfer@reddit
As a guy who moved aboard a boat after a divorce, I feel attacked, yet seen.
AlternativeDue1958@reddit
I’m in the market for a divorcee with a boat in Seattle 😛
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
I can tell you a good spot to anchor in Apple Tree Cove, Kingston.
AlternativeDue1958@reddit
Will I catch a good divorcee there? 😛

Washington state law is a 50% state for anything purchased during marriage. My mother did family law, and said people would spend tens of thousands to get a dog. I'm like "why wouldn't they just get another dog?"
Do not know, but I took their money.
Unkn0wnMarketWizard@reddit
This is giving me Sleepless in Seattle vibes

Puget Sound has a type of shark that has seven gills. Take that however.
zoinkability@reddit
Now kith!
kdjfsk@reddit
There are like 3-4 divorcees living aboard, just on my dock, and theres like 11 other docks at this marina.
I dont judge...i know a couple of these guys are stuck paying half a mortgage in a house they arent allowed to live in. WTF else are they supposed to do.
blogito_ergo_sum@reddit
Guess you'll just have to find a free boat, then it's not buying

This is why I love reddit. You learn something new every day.
MotionE29@reddit
I was told I can't have another boat until I get rid of one of the ones I have.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
Oh, everyone, look at Mister Multiple Boats here!
Your highness. As we do, I had no wind so I cast a line, caught a Coho salmon. I'm thinking ceviche. Do you have limes?
MotionE29@reddit
Haha, I like to restore small boats and I live on lake. No more projects until I sell the others. I just finished a small sailboat this year and looking for my next project.
kdjfsk@reddit
I started doing that with other hobbies and it was actually a great habit. Imo, like 4 is good. That way you can rotate what is waiting on parts...do efficient things like painting all at once, but selling helps you recoup costs, and makes you realize if what your spending is worth it.
the-montser@reddit
Ok no need to tell us about your conflict with your wife
jonathanrdt@reddit
Yeah...really nothing to do w sailing.
bryangcrane@reddit
I presume this is meant in jest? 😝
multistradivari@reddit
She meant it as a dare.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
That might blow up on her.
multistradivari@reddit
I know… 😂
SVLibertine@reddit
Yes. Yes I am!
(Said the husband going through his 10th divorce!)

My wife said “You can’t get a boat, you don’t know anything about boats.” I said “I know the most important rule: your boat’s waterline length in feet shouldn’t be bigger than your age in years.”
Gold_Bowler5794@reddit
Sold my Westerly Nimrod she hated then bought a Compac, Cape Dory n Sail Fish she likes
Westar-35@reddit
lol, and here I am about to meet the notary to sign for the new boat that was my wife’s idea.
Throwaway_carrier@reddit
Coming from a guy who’s had four boats over the course of his life (all slightly larger than the next)- you can’t eat three roast beefs at one time, or drive five Cadillacs, or watch ten TVs at once.
One is really all we need, so maybe sell the old one and just go up in size, or get off the hedonic treadmill and be happy with the boat you’ve got.
Best of luck and smooth sailing.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
*laughs in size
Embarrassed_Can6796@reddit
I have a convoluted plan where I buy another boat, strip it to refurbish my existing boat, and then pump dollars into the new boat. It makes no sense at all.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
I hope you don't work in sales. I don't either, but let me try.
It's all about attitude, and the ability to hide some purchases so your wife thinks you spent it on X, where it was actually Y, as long as Y isn't your second wife/girlfriend.
Although, it doesn't help that boats are often named after women.
marxistcandy@reddit
My boat is for sale. My wife won’t let me do Ironman otherwise.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
Just send her the link of the 80+ year old woman that just completed one.
mlhpdx@reddit
My wife and I made an agreement that I get as many boats as she does pairs of shoes. More than 30 years in we still agree to it.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
Okay so not shoes, but when I met my wife she lived in a 2br high rise luxury penthouse apartment, alone. The master bedroom closet, which was huge, was so full of dresses you could barely pull them off the rack. The majority still had the tag on them.
I'll preface this by saying I've seen her in a dress twice. Our first date, Dillar Room downtown Seattle which was across the street from where she lived, I've know understood women will chose a place for a first date close to home, and our wedding.
WolflingWolfling@reddit
If the number of boats exceeds the number of shoes she has, she has a point.
StellarJayZ@reddit (OP)
I'm getting a boat! i'll take the Craigslist $1 special that just needs paint.
pgauret@reddit
Of course you are. We all are.
bstruebing@reddit
Why were you in my backyard
